Cody hated the Month of Relaxing. Or rather, he hated what the Month of Relaxing had turned into. After the re-discovery of Altador, the Altador Cup had been occurring annually. And Cody hated it. "How am I supposed to relax when everyone is so excited everywhere I go?" the red Chia was fond of grumbling to himself.
Leisurely trips to the beach were ruined by children playing Yooyuball in the sand. Normally peaceful hiking trails were filled with the chatter of people discussing the game results. Even trips to the Food Shop saw daily editions of the Neopian Times with match results at the end of every aisle.
And Cody had had enough.
"What are you doing?" a voice asked from his doorway as Cody angrily threw clothes into a suitcase. It was his little sister, Katie.
"I'm going on vacation," Cody answered.
"Where to?" Katie asked. "Can I come?"
"You can if you want, but you wouldn't like it. You see," Cody announced, "I am going to search for the one place in Neopia where NO ONE talks about the Altador Cup..." |

"Good luck with that," the Faerie Chia replied. "You would have to travel all the way to Jelly World or some forgotten place."
Cody stormed out of his home while his sister laughed at the notion of a place where no one has heard of the Altador Cup exists.
As Cody hopped on his bike a certain dark faerie observed the bitter Chia with interest. The dark faerie was none other than the fabled Jennumara, the faerie who stole Baelia's wings.
"How interesting. Someone who hates the Altador Cup as much as I do," Jennumara said to herself. "How is a dark faerie like myself supposed to turn Neopia grey with all this excitement. Maybe that Chia could be of use to me and goal to turn Neopia grey.

"Ahhhh!" yelled the Red Chia.
Cody did not see the rocks in front of him that he collided with in an almighty crash.
With his bike on one side of the pathway and the contents of his suitcase askew, Cody had no idea just what to do.
He tried to compose himself and picked himself up. Packing his clothes back into his suitcase, he realised that one of the wheels from his bike was missing.
From a distance, a beautiful, young yellow Chia walked towards him. She was rolling something with one hand but Cody could not exactly see what it was.
"I believe this is yours?" said the yellow Chia.
"My wheel!" exclaimed the red Chia.
"Thank you! My name is Cody."
"Hi! I'm Je-, Jeannie." a funny shade of red swept over her cheeks...

Cody offered Jeannie a smile and thought it was only fair and the right thing to do to introduce himself in return. "Hello, Jeannie. I'm Cody."
The yellow Chia eyed the suitcase and pointed, "where are you going? Are you running away from home?"
"N-no! I just don't want to be anywhere near the Altador Cup. Looking for somewhere peaceful."
Jeannie covered her mouth and giggled before replying, "good luck with that." Before Cody could become deflated with what she just said, she adds in. "But you know what? I may just know of a place...it's my secret hideout."

"A secret hideout..." Cody questioned, "without anything having to do with the Altador Cup?"
Jeannie smiled and nodded, and gestured for Cody to follow her. After excitedly stuffing his items back into his suitcase and pulling his bike to an upright position again, he ran after her.
Together the two walked and talked about how all the Altador Cup excitement could get annoying after a while. As it turns out, Jeannie isn't quite fond of the annual games either.
Eventually, the pair reached Jeannie's secret hideout. Jeannie opened the small door for Cody, and he slipped inside, squinting through the murky darkness of the room before him.
"H-hey, Jeannie," Cody stammered, stumbling over a pillow or something he couldn't see, "it's really dark in your hideout.."
"That's right," agreed a different voice behind him. A smooth voice, yet slightly unsettling in a way Cody couldn't quite figure out. Then he heard a lock...

Cody turned around, and saw a dark bellowing figure behind him where Jeannie should of stood.
“W-who are you?” Cody managers to stammer. As he backed away, Cody tripped over something and landed with a thud.
The figure moved closer to him, and became clearer. “A faerie?” Cody murmured under his breath.
“That’s right,” said the shadowy faerie, “I’m Jennumara, the great dark faerie. I’m going to ruin the Altador Cup,” she reached out her hand to Cody, “and you’re going to help me”

Cody stared at the faerie, stunned. "What do you mean I'm going to help you?"
Jennumara laughed at the confused Chia. "Cody, you and I both hate the Altador Cup. Let's finish it. This year's event should be the last ever, and I'm going to make sure of that."
"But, I just dislike the Altador Cup. I'm not trying to get rid of the fun for everyone else, and I'm certainly not looking to commit a crime that will lock me up behind Fyora's gate! I'm sorry, but I'm not going to help you."
The dark faerie became further agitated. She slammed her wing against the wall, highlighting images of past Altador Cups.
"You see, I used to be the faerie spokesperson of the Altador Cup. But then my reign ended when my cousin, Kari the Negg Faerie, took over. Since then I've made it my mission to end the Altador Cup once and for all."
Cody considered his next plan of action. He felt bad for Jennumara, but he knew she had malicious intent.
"Fine, I will help you. On one condition..."

"Silly Chia," Jennumara laughed as she interrupted Cody. "I make the rules not you. You WILL help me, or else you WILL be turned into a pile of sludge forever. So really, you have no choice!"
Cody gulped.
"So here is what we are going to do. It is very dangerous, but only if you get caught." Jennumara said. "We are going to head to Altador and you are going to be in the stands as a fan. You are going to act like you love the Altador Cup so much and blend right in."
"That doesn't sound dangerous," Cody replied.
"Oh, but I am not finished." Jennumara replied, "In your pocket will be a special item, that once the first goal is scored, will unleash a world of terror on everyone within a 20 mile radius."
"What item?" Cody asked with fear in his eyes.
"This of course," Jennumara said as she presented Cody with a small wooden box.
Cody gasped as he lifted the lid on the box and laid eyes on...

...a Jubjub yoyo??
"You've lost me." Cody said, his eyes studying the yoyo while rubbing the bottom of his chin. What in the world was yoyo going to do? "I've never heard of an evil yoyo..."
"Nonsense. A yoyo? What kind of fool do you think I..." Jennumara looked down into the box and let out a shocked gasp! As soon as she did, the door was unlocked and slammed behind them.
"-Jeannie!" Cody said, seeing the yellow chia sprint out of the door with the dark faeries evil world-ending item. Cody was just as shocked as Jeannumara was, but quickly ran past the faerie and towards the door.
Running as fast as his little chubby legs could take him, he sprinted after Jeannie until suddenly...

... A tall shadow bolted out in front of his path. Shades and swirls of magenta, pink, and lavender appeared just as abruptly, and Cody sighed in relief as he realized who graced their presence.
The Faerie Queen stood, her arms crossed against her chest, eyebrows furrowed with agitation. She glanced around, until her eyes lit up with fury at the sight of Jennumara.
"Jennumara!" The Faerie Queen snapped. She held her hand out to Cody impatiently, as if she already knew the Chia possessed the Jubjub Yoyo.
Without hesitation, Cody held the yoyo out to the Faerie Queen to place into her palm.
Jennumara darted out toward the two...

"Jennumara!" Fyora said in a stern voice. "You are not using young Neopets to do your dirty work again are you?"
"No.." Jennumara stuttered, suddenly looking fearful.
"Then why did a young Chia run past me looking like she had seen a ghostkerchief?" Fyora asked.
"I am not sure," Jennumara lied. "This Chia here stole my yoyo and I was simply trying to get it back from him, I am unsure about any other Chias."
"Don't take me for a fool." Fyora said. "I know exactly what is going on here."
Fyora waved her arms and Cody gasped as the yoyo disappeared and in its place was now a...

...small sphere just two inches in diameter. Swirls of light blue - the same light blue that was the color of the Jubjub yoyo - danced just under the smooth surface.
"Do you know what this is, young Chia?" Fyora asked calmly as she held it.
"It's not a Jubjub yoyo, I know that much," Cody said, scratching his chin. "Beyond that I have no idea."
"Inside this sphere is a poison to Yooyus. It infects their minds, turns them from friendly, fun-loving Petpets into monsters," Fyora explained. "Not much is needed because the effect is, unfortunately, contagious."
Cody gasped. So that was what Jennumara had meant! She planned to end the Altador Cup by turning all of the Yooyus feral mid-match! No wonder everyone would be frightened; they'd be swooped by dozens of angry little beasts.
"How could you?" Cody gasped, turning to face Jennumara, but the dark faerie was gone. "Wait, where'd she go? Aren't you going to chase her?"
"As much as I would like to, Faerie Law dictates that she technically did nothing wrong. I was able to intervene in time before this sphere was activated. We rule on actual happenings, not what-ifs," Fyora explained, but her tone was a bit bitter as though she personally disagreed with the ancient laws she was bound to uphold. "I doubt she will try again, as she knows I will inform the Altador Cup Committee to be on the lookout for any suspicious items entering the Colosseum."
Cody nodded, but he had to admit that it seemed weird that Jennumara would get away with it. He supposed Fyora had come along just in time.
"Speaking of the Cup, I imagine you would like to get to the games before you miss anything?" Fyora asked.
Cody shook his head vehemently. "No! This whole thing started because I was trying to get AWAY from the Cup," he admitted. "She lured me in by promising me that she would end the Cup. I didn't want to hurt the Yooyus or anyone, I just wanted to relax in the Month of Relaxing without worrying about a stupid sport."
Fyora suddenly smiled. "I think I know someone who may be able to help."

Cody sighed contentedly as he leaned against the side of the fishing boat he was on and checked his rod. Fyora had introduced him to an orange Yurble who also disliked the Altador Cup. He apparently worked at the Hall of Heroes, and hated all the extra foot traffic the Cup brought between games. Claimed he needed to get away during the Cup otherwise he'd get too angry that it was never clean enough. The two agreed to take a little fishing trip for the rest of the Month of Relaxing.
"Ahh this is the life," the Chia said with a luxurious stretch. "So much better than Yooyuball."
He yelped and scrambled to sit up as a cold, slimy fish slapped him in the face. His fishing partner was heaving and turning red. "I thought we agreed that those words were off limits!" the Yurble snapped.
Cody ducked his head sheepishly. "Right, sorry!" The Orange Yurble was a nice enough guy once Cody had gotten to now him, but Cody had to admit the Yurble did have quite the temper!
The End.
