BEEP BEEP BEEP WARNING WARNING! Blared the sirens. Something horrible was wrong with the section of the Space Station they were on, with programming Grundos running amok and sections closing off exits as fast as they could reopen them to allow escape.
"GAH, What is that noise?" complained Corona. Corona, a Shoyru Princess to Kreludor and one of the very few non-Grundo high ranking occupants of the region was accustomed to this, but not this early in the morning.
"Oh, I see." She stepped over, rolling her eyes all the while, to an override panel -- she had spent years studying programming herself -- and began entering the passkey to shut that infernal racket, only to be in for a surprise. |

The passkey did not override the drill. Which only meant one thing. This was not a drill at all. This was a real emergency!
Corona had trained for a moment like this her entire life. She took a deep breathe to calm her nerves. The Shoyru rushed around her room, equipping her Kreludan armor in record time. She grabbed only the essentials as she stealthily headed toward the door.
Corona snuck out of her room, into an empty hall. Red lights were flashing. Sirens were blasting. What in Neopia was going on? As she rounded the corner, Corona saw ...

Down the hallway, a large figure loomed. Red lights flashed all around, casting the creature in and out of the shadows.
Corona cautiously approached, holding up her blaster.
The figure slowly turned, revealing itself to be a huge Mutant Gelert. He stared at Corona with dark, narrowed eyes.
Who are you? Corona demanded, stopping a few paces away from the Gelert.
He paused, assessing her as he slowly answered in a crackling voice, I was someone once I was one of Dr. Sloths experiments he turned me into this, he growled.
I am sorry about what happened to you, Corona responded with a frown. But Dr. Sloth is gone. This is a peaceful place now-
I am taking this Space Station down for what was done to me, the Gelert snarled.
Suddenly, he charged at Corona

...and embraced her.
Corona was bewildered, mentally checking her back for paws that might conceal other weaponry. She found none but instead received a whisper.
"That's what I need them to think...my fellow mutants also transformed by Dr. Sloth. I've come to ask your aid for revenge. The others just want revenge, to storm every space station on Kreludor.
But I say we get to the source. Pretend I'm still attacking you, and I'll retreat, but will you do what you can to help?"
Corona nodded and whispered back, "Yes. I have a good idea of where he is. It won't be easy and I'll risk my people...but they do need to know."
"Are you mad? My mutant followers would scatter if they knew I received help from a non mutant."
Corona slowly nodded in agreement, wondering what she was getting herself into. Suddenly, she pushed back.
"Now begone with you, miserable creature!" She cried, firing her blaster in such a way that it would ricochet and hit nothing at all.
The Gelert fled, and Grundos attended her side. "My Lady, are you all right?"
Corona took a deep breath and looked her guard in the eye.
"I'm all right. We've got work to do."

..."What sort of work?" asked the Grundos as the red lights finally stopped blaring.
"THREAT ELIMINATED," came the robotic feminine voice over the space station's loudspeaker.
"That creature is gone," said one of her more loyal followers. "What more is there to do?"
"That individual was head of the Sloth Mutants," Corona replied. "And I made an agreement with him, that he will control his people -- who want to attack every space station out of spite for Dr. Sloth -- if we go after Dr. Sloth ourselves, likely with their assistance."
Some of the Grundos gasped. "But Dr. Sloth is gone! This is a peaceful place," they reiterated, the atrocities of Sloth fresh in their minds.
"It'll stop being peaceful if we're constantly being attacked by mutants." She nodded at them. "Instead, think about us teaming up with them, to exact revenge on he who as caused so much pain. Now, get me the coordinates of Dr. Sloth."

"Sir," said Dr. Sloth's right hand Grundo as he ran into the office of his idol. "I have big news!"
"What is it, Esterhazy?" Had it been anyone else disturbing his peace, Sloth would have had their head. But there was something about that Grundo's constantly cheery demeanor, even in the face of absolute danger, that Sloth liked... it almost unsettled him.
"Well," Esterhazy continued, smiling, "our spies on the inside say that Princess Corona has allied her allegiance with the Mutants."
Sloth frowned. "It's about time," he replied.
"What is, sir?"
"I always knew the Mutants would eventually come for me... But don't worry." He grinned sharply. "I have a plan..."

Corona walked briskly towards the air shuttle lock, several Grundos trailing behind her. They were obediently quiet, and Corona took advantage of this time to think of what she would say when they inevitably asked her a question. The plan was unfolding in her mind.
"My Lady, what is the next course of action?"
"During my confrontation with that Gelert, he let drop some information of where him and his team might have come from. We need to take a small team of scouts on a small recon mission. Coordinates 27:13:16:43 -59:63:38.2."
One of the Grundos, a silver one by the name of Artois, gasped beside her. "But isn't that where -"
"Yes," Corona said solemnly, turning to face the crowd behind her, standing just outside the spacecraft hanger. "If the rumours are to be believed, that is where He is right now, and that is where this ambush stemmed from." She took a deep breath. "I know Sloth is a fearsome adversary, and many of you suffered from the hardship of his reign, and are still healing from the impact from it. So if you do not feel comfortable enough to follow me, I understand, and I will not force you to. But if anyone feels they are strong enough, please step forward."
There was a tittering among the Grundos as they thought it over. Then slowly, Artois took a step forward, followed by six other Grundos. The rest stayed back.
Corona nodded firmly. "Good. Those of you in the back are temporarily relieved from duty, and we will contact you with updates and orders as the situation unfolds."
She punched in the access code and the doors slid open with a hiss. "The rest of you, follow me..."

Corona and the six grundos rushed to the Meteorjet, the fastest ship docked at their space station. It had room for ten and was already stocked with weapons and provisions.
"Artois, you man the controls," Corona instructed. "The rest of you, run through the checklists and prepare for take off."
The Shoyru's heart was pounding. She was starting to realize that she may have bitten off more than she could chew. Princess Corona did not think that her small recon team would be so ... small.

Sloth tapped his long fingers on his desk in delight.
"I imagine that pesky princess and her minions are on their way now, to scout our location," Sloth explained. "What they do not know is that they are heading into a trap. You see, I may have let some coordinates leak for our location, but what really lies in that region will be quite the surprise to our visitors."
Esterhazy smiled at her master, but secretly wondered what would happens to her friends ...

...Corona frowned as the Meteorjet approached its destination. She watched the coordinates on one of the hologram screens tick closer to the ones she had been given. Though the numbers were true, the large expanse of space in front of the Meteorjet was not.
"You'd think Dr. Sloth would have some large, grand ship for himself, wouldn't you, Artois?" the Shoyru princess asked.
The silver Grundo followed her gaze out the window and nodded. "Could the coordinates have been wrong?" Artois replied.
"I'm starting to think they almost certainly were," Corona said grimly. A blob out the window caught her eye. "Hang on, what's that outside?"
"EMERGENCY ALERT. EMERGENCY ALERT. CODE RED: THE HULL HAS BEEN BREACHED. I REPEAT, CODE RED: THE HULL HAS BEEN BREACHED."

Dr. Sloth watched the blips surrounding the Kreludan ship on his long-range radar with a grin. He couldn't help himself - an evil genius deserved a chance to sit back and enjoy some wholesome entertainment every now and then. And what was better than watching some idiots from Kreludor get attacked in the deepest expanses of space where no one would come to their aid?
"Go and fetch me a beverage, Esterhazy," Dr. Sloth said with a dismissive wave of his hand.
"Yes sir!" the Grundo said buoyantly. She seemed to skip from the room as she made her way to the mess hall where she knew the cooks would have all of their master's favorite food and drinks.
She did not anticipate, however, a heavy, grotesque hand snaking out and clasping over her mouth before pulling her into the shadows...

Esterhazy tried to fight back and call for help, but she was thrust against the wall so hard that she was temporarily stunned. She blinked, and came face to face with a mutant Korbat. She had never seen a korbat before- definitely not a mutant one, but she could guess well enough what painting it had. As her senses cleared up she realized that this korbat was not holding her down.
What was was a mutant Hissi. She did not know that a neopet of this kind had two heads, so she thought that she was seeing double. Suddenly, she blacked out...

Princess Corona grabbed her blaster as the jet was jostled through open space. Two grundos were thrown on top of her in the process. "Sorry, m'lady!"
"Yes, yes, fine- what hit us?" she shouted.
"I don't know!" Artois exclaimed. "But all engines are offline! Nothing seems to be working! They could hear banging in the back of the jet where the passengers were, and the sound of firing blasters.
How will the story end...

A week later...
"Again, daddy, again!" Young Corona screamed in delight as her father threw her high in the air, high enough to even touch a cloud. Suddenly, she heard her mother let out a loud, horrid shriek. "CONSTIPATH! HELP ME!" Her father ran as fast as his Lupe legs could take him, forgetting to catch Corona. Fortunately, her small wings had enough energy to keep her in the air for as long as twenty-five minutes. Another shriek came from a short distance, this one louder and deeper than the first. She flew to the front of her mother's home in Neopia only to find that Dr. Sloth's creations had taken both her mother and father captive. "MOMMY! DADDY! COME BACK! DON'T LEAVE ME HERE!" The young Shoyru had no option but to retreat to the ground, sobbing and shocked. "Mommy... Daddy... the... baby..."
...
Corona woke up with a start, but all she saw was her gloomy little prison cell. The obscure square room was the size of her walk-in closet, barely large enough to house two Xweetox. She sighed, looking at a moldy piece of bread and dirty water with some Petpetpets swimming in it.
Slamming was heard from the outside of the thick metal door. "Prisoner 432, wake up, it's interrogation day!" The voice was so raspy and brutal, she got off the rotting wooden plank she was sleeping on in a split second. The door then opened, revealing the Mutant Gelert that she confronted the day before in the palace...
Maybe this story will have it's end one day...for now...
The End.
