"Are you coming or not?" asked Chukoonu the Chia, standing by the front door of their straw
NeoHome. "We are always the last ones to the shops."
Terriphi was hiding under his favourite blanket and was shaking like a leaf. "There's no way in Neopia that I'm leaving
this house... especially not today."
"You're kidding me, right? Just because it's Ch--"
"DON'T EVEN SAY IT!" Terriphi yelled out, stopping his brother in mid-sentence.
"Chocolate--"
"Don't say Chia!"
"Day."
"Oops." Terriphi peered out from his blanket and gave his brother quite an evil glare. "Oh, big brother, you've done
it now. They're sure to come get us. Bolt the doors! Put on the security system!"
Chukoonu looked out the window and asked, "Who? What are you talking about?
"The Lupes, my big brother. Today is the day that every Lupe waits for all year long... *gulp* and we should really stay inside,"
Terriphi said, crawling back under his blanket...

Meanwhile--
Somewhere else in Neopia
A beatiful trio of Lupe pups were happily playing "catch the tail" with their wonderfully patient father. He was beaming that
day, looking at his pups.
"Okay kids!" their mother said as she strolled into view. "Can any of my little ones tell me what day it is today?"
A pretty little blue pup raised a paw and yipped, "It's Chocalate Chia Day!"
"Very good, Lilly!" the mother praised. "Now, I know you may still be pups, but your father and I think this year you're all
old enough to participate in the festivities!"
"Yaaaaaaah!" the three pups cheered, prancing around with their heads held high. "We're gonna go get some Chias," they
chanted in sing-song voices.
"Now settled down," the father warned. "Or maybe we'll change our minds." The pups quieted down instantly. "That's better.
Now, Ronnie and Nikki," he said adressing two of the pups. "You two can go with you mother. Stick close to her now and
you better mind."
"We will daddy!" the chimed together.
"And Lilly, you and Ruffu..." the father trailed off. "Where's Ruffus?"
"Oh he's still asleep," Lilly chirped. "I'll go get 'im!"
Lilly ran off to get her brother, the smallest of the pups.
"C'mon Ruffus! Time to go!" Ruffus responed by moaning and climbing farther under his blanket. "C'mon Ruffey, it'll
be fun!" the girl merrily stated, pulling off the blanket.
"No it won't..." Ruffus thought. "My first Chocolate Chia Day, and already I've got a bad feeling about this."
"You're still worried about today, huh?" his sister questioned." Ruffus muttered to himself dryly. "Don't worry Ruffus.
I'll be with you. It'll be fine!" Ruffus sighed in defeat and rolled out of bed.
Helpless to change the course of the day, Ruffus followed his now prancing sister out to join the rest of his family...

..."Ah, Ruffus! Glad you came to join us!" the father continued as Lilly pranced into the room with the sulking Ruffus
behind her. "You and your sister, Lilly, will be coming with me for the festivities of Chocolate Chia Day!" Lilly jumped
up and down, spun around, and gave Ruffus a playful nip on the tail. He growled, not wanting to go anywhere. You see, he
went to the same school as Terriphi and they were best friends. Ruffus didn't want to do anything to offend him, but it
looked as if his family was going to continue with the festivities, especially because they were the well-known Lupessi
family...

..."Dad... Do I have to go?" I don't feel good." It was the best lie that Ruffus could think of on such short notice.
"I think that, that Petri I ate last night was a little rotten."
"He's lying daddy! He's lying!" Lilly shouted and nipped his tail once again, however this time it was not so playfully.
"He just doesn't want to go!"
Lilly's father shot a quick glare at his youngest son and shook his head. "I'm sure you'll feel better once we get
down to town and start having fun with the festivities!"
"No daddy... I feel really, really sick!"
"You're going, Ruffus!" Their father barked, harshly. "And I know that you'll have fun."
"All right daddy..." It was always better to argue, but Ruffus knew that he wouldn't have any fun at
all. And after today, he'd be searching for a new best friend.
Meanwhile...
"Chukoonu! Let me go, please! I don't want to go!" Terriphi waved his arms and legs helplessly, trying to get out
of the grasp of his brother as he was dragged down the dirt path that brought them to town. "Those terrible Lupes
will be there!"
"Oh, get over it, Terriphi! We'll have fun, don't worry and nothing will happen to us!" Chukoonu was getting very
tired at this point. He had been dragging his brother for about a mile now, and he was not a light Chia. After a
few moments of silence between the two, Chukoonu decided to stop. He needed the break and he was sure that Terriphi
was tired of being dragged along with him. "Are you going to walk now?"
Terriphi nodded a bit and his brother slowly let go of his arm. Just as he did so, Terriphi sprung up into the air,
and ran off across a field. Before Chukoonu could do anything his brother disappeared into the forests that were on
the other side of the trees...

...Rounding a mulberry bush, Terriphi bumped into another creature, sending him sprawling. At first, Terriphi
was extremely scared, especially when he recognized the creature as a large Lupe. Then, he breathed a shaky sigh
of relief as he recognised it to be his friend from school, Ruffus.
"Ruffus," Terriphi began, as he picked himself up, but his voice trailed away as he looked beyond his schoolyard
pal and saw Ruffus's family and neighbors coming up behind him. They were a large group of Lupes, probably
thirty-seven of them full-count. Terriphi began shaking uncontrollably, and his relief and happiness at seeing
his friend melted into terror at the fate that surely awaited him.
Ruffus was a little scared for his friend also, but he covered it up and thought fast. He pushed Terriphi
into a cave that was beside the path in front of them...

Meanwhile...
Chukoonu sighed. He had looked everywhere for Terriphi, but couldn't find him. He didn't know where else to go.
He finally gave up and started to go home. He was about to cross a mulberry bush, when suddenly--
"Well, isn't it a nice little chia on Chocolate Chia day?" a voice grumbled through the trees. Chukoonu jumped,
startled by the sudden noise. He backed away, ready to run, until he bumped into something.
He turned around and saw a huge Lupe standing before him, grinning showing all the teeth in his mouth. "The first
catch of the day," the Lupe whispered, backing Chukoonu into a tree. Chukoonu tried to run, but the Lupe was too big.
"Don't bother running," the Lupe said, "No one can save you now."
All of a sudden, many other Lupes started coming out of hiding. Slowly, the large Lupe grabbed Chukoonu and dragged
him into a large cave by the bush...

...which turned out to be the very same cave that Terriphi and Ruffus were in.
"Wow, son!" said his father. "Lilly told me you didn't want to go, but you really have the spirit!"
"I do?" asked Ruffus. "The spirit for what?"
"Why, Chocolate Chia Day of course. You caught your first Chia! Wow, I didn't catch my first until I was twice
as old as you." He was shaking his head, obviously astounded. "Well, what are you waiting for? Go eat him!"
The whole time the Lupes were talking Terriphi and Chukoonu were mouthing a plan to escape.
"We'll make a run for it," Chukoonu said.
The pack suddenly turned their heads. "You go ahead and eat the puny one, Ruffus," his father said. "While we take
this one..."

..."Father, I think it would be far better if I give 'im a ride in my teeth, the better to show off my accomplishment.
In fact, I can fit two in my mouth."
"Not a bad idea," said the proud parent.
"Ruffus," his mother, who had just entered the cave, said, "can you really be that disciplined? That in itself will
be a great feat."
Ruffus winked at the terrified Chias.
"Just hold on to my teeth," he whispered, "as if I'm keeping you captive. I'll let you down a hole as soon as I can."
"OOOOooooorooooo," the Lupe pack howled with delight as the young predator displayed his catch. They paraded behind
him until they caught scent of another Chia...

...The pack darted off following the scent.
"We'll be back soon, son!" Ruffus's father yelled out as he left. "Congratulations again!"
Ruffus was left with Chukoonu and Terriphi who immediately pried open his mouth and fell out. "I'm covered in Lupe
slobber!" Terriphi grumbled as he tried in vain to clean himself off. "Lovely family you have, Ruffus!" Chukoonu said
sarcastically.
"Hey, I saved your lives! I'm a Lupe, you know. According to my family, I'm supposed to eat you!" Ruffus retorted back,
worried that his family would return any minute.
"This is all your fault, Chukoonu!" Terriphi yelled. "I told you we shouldn't have gone out today!"
Ruffus held a claw up to his lips warning Terriphi to be quiet, as the bushes next to him rustled...

...and out from behind the brush scrambled Lilly!
"Oh, Lilly! Um, what are you doing here?? I thought you left with the pack!!" stuttered Rufus, trying desperately to
think up a good explanation as to why he hadn't devoured the Chias yet.
"What do you mean, what am I doing here? You are the one who is friends with our dinner!" Lilly shouted, angry at her
brother for betraying their family.
"Lilly, please don't be angry! I couldn't let these Chias be eaten," Ruffus explained, standing in front of the Chias,
"they are my friends! And besides that," he continued, "why should we eat these poor, helpless creatures? What did
they ever do to us?? Except show their little cute faces and funny hair?"
Lilly glanced at the two frightened Chias cowering in the corner. "I guess you're right," said Lilly, crossing her
fingers behind her back. "Let me take a closer look at you two..."

...and out came a member of the Neopets Staff. The three Neopets looked up at her quizzically as she said, "Listen,
this story had just gotten too violent. Now, off with you, the next story will be starting soon." She made shoo-ing
motions with her hands, leading them out of the story.
Ruffus asked "What about me? I never got my chance to be the hero, and you SAID I could..." he whined.
She sighed and said, "Listen, Ruffus, you were a hero by not eating the Chias, even though you could have. Some humans
I know could take a lesson from you."
And without a further word, she pushed them out of the story, making room for the next week's characters.
But Ruffus' family came back!
"Where's Ruffus?" Lilly asked, though she didn't really care.
"Oh, honestly!" the staff member cried, "How many of you are there? Out! OUT I say! Now!!!"
And so the sad looking Lupes followed the path of Ruffus and the Chias out of the story. The Neopets Staff member
sighed heavily, and turned to the readers.
"I'm very sorry for this interruption, but we have to get moving. There's really no time to explain!"
And with that, she, too, walked off the story page.
The End
