Halloween was creeping up on the calendar and all of Yasco's friends already
had their costumes, even her annoying little sister had a Traditional Welsh Usuki costume. Yasco thought
of every possible thing that she could dress up as this year, and when she told Gossipah (her best friend)
what she wanted to be, she would reply in a not so best friendly sort of way, "Oh so-and-so got that costume
like three weeks ago and they're going to the same party as you. You might as well dress up as a Pile of
Sludge. No one I know is going as that." Yasco felt like crying--she didn't want to be the only pet in
all of Neopia without a cool costume...

...There wasn't exactly a Halloween Costume shop in Neopia Central. Yasco's owner was too busy playing Kiko
Match to sew her a costume--even if she decided what she was going to be. Sighing, Yasco went upstairs to her
room and sobbed on her pillow. Just give up Yasco, she thought, nobody is going to notice you anyway.
It was all too true. Yasco didn't have much of a social life and she wasn't popular like the other pets in her
class. When Yasco couldn't cry anymore she went over to her bookshelf to pick out a book to read. If Yasco
didn't have many friends, she made up for it in intelligence. "Let's see...I've never seen this book before..."

...The book had a black cover and dust was all over it. Yasco blew the dust away and gasped. The title was
in shiny white letters. It read: "Hallows Eve". "Yes, a book about Halloween!" Yasco was so excited she
immediately began reading it. The book had lots of spooky short stories in it and as Yasco turned a page
something caught her eye. It was beautiful. On the page there was a drawing of a Usuki wearing a long black
Spyder costume. It had webs all over it and looked dazzling. And at the bottom of the page it said Spyderina.
There were also instructions on how to make the costume. This was perfect. Now Yasco could go to the party and
be the most popular pet there. Everyone would be envious of her. Without a second thought Yasco decided she
was going to make the spyder costume herself, as now her owner was playing Sakhmet Solitaire. In a couple
of days the costume was made and it was as pretty as the one in the book. Just in time too, she
thought. She closed the book and it disappeared in black smoke. Yasco thought that was odd but didn't mind.
She then headed to the party where all her friends were, but when they saw her they all gasped with horror...

...Because she had turned into Spyderina herself! What's everyone staring at? she thought to herself.
"SPYDER-USUL!!" everyone shouted, running every which way.
"What?!" asked Yasco confusedly, running to a mirror. She looked like herself to herself, but to anyone else,
she was Spyderina. Yasco was confused. "What on Neopia is going on?" she asked herself, as she found a closet,
so she could hide and think in peace. All of a sudden, she felt something pulling her into the wall.
"What the-?!" Yasco exclaimed, as she was being pulled up. She closed her eyes, not wanting to see what
was on the other side, but as she felt she was out of the closet, she opened her eyes to see many things
shout, "Hail the Spyder Queen, Spyderina!"
"What the?" she said, her vision still blurry from her eyes being closed so tightly. She blinked
a few times and gave a silent gasp when she saw that the things were...

...Spyders. They were everywhere, their red eyes glowing eerily in the room. Yasco looked around and saw
that she was in a large chamber that was evidently underground. Spyders were everywhere and all of them
were bowing in her direction.
"What do you mean?" she stammered and tried to step back. She looked behind her and found that the tunnel
she was dragged through had disappeared. One of the larger Spyders scurried up and bowed to her. "Your
majesty, you finally came back," he said.
"What! I'm not Spyderina! This is a mistake!" Yasco shouted.
"Nonsense, your majesty," the Spyder said. "Who else bears the mark of the Spyder?" He pointed to a design
on Yasco's costume. She looked at it and gulped. It was shaped like a Spyder on a web and embroidered in
red thread. Yasco could have sworn that it wasn't there before. Two Spyders stepped up toward the frightened
Usul and draped a black and silver cloak over her shoulders. Another Spyder walked up, carrying a crown made
of silver and black crystals. He put it on her head...

..."Look! Look!" All the Spyders demanded in one voice. "Look at how the crown fits. It was made for your
head!" They brought a dusty mirror from the depths of the closet and set it before her. Yasco used her paw
to wipe away years of accumulated dust before she could see her reflection in the dim light. The crown was
beautiful she had to admit, as well as the silver and black cloak.
She smiled, sadly. For the first time she was being treated special and it was only because these Spyders
thought she was someone else. Sighing, she attempted to remove the crown. "I can't ac--" she began but stopped
in mid-sentence. The crown was stuck! "What's happening?" she cried, "I can't get this crown off!"
"Of course not, your majesty," the larger Spyder said, "As we said, it was made for you. Now, what is your
royal command?"
"Royal command?" Yasco repeated. She could ask the Spyders to help her remove the crown, but she preferred
for them not to actually touch her. As she thought, her mind went back to how she had been treated by her
so-called friends...

..."I know!" Yasco exclaimed, suddenly enraged at how her friends had left her when she needed them.
"My spyders..." She was surprised to hear another voice, a deep commanding voice, to speak out her
thoughts instead of her own meek one. Still, she continued, "I ask you to avenge me, I ask you to
go after the people who have been mean to me!" At that, the Spyders evacuated the cave, slowly,
still in reverence of the Queen at their midst. Yasco was surprised at what she had just ordered.
It was as if someone else had commanded her to say those things, it was as if... No, it can't be!!
she thought. Or could it? Could Spyderina have taken control of her body? At that, she wanted to call
the Spyders back, but almost the entire clan had left the cave...

...Yasco sat down on the cold, dank ground, as the Spyders had not provided her a throne yet No way...
it's just not possible! Yasco thought to herself, she pondered what had just happened to her, as
the Spyders were off doing their mission.
Yasco's best friend, along with some others that had been mistreating Yasco, had sat down at a table
outside the Halloween party, they were laughing and talking about how Yasco couldn't come up with a
costume in time, and was afraid to show her face, just then, several Spyders silently crawled up onto
their table. "Boo!" the Spyders screamed in their shrillest, most high pitched voices, all four girls
jumped up, scared out of their minds, and ran off, "Heh, heh, heh... we showed them. Let's go back
to our queen!" remarked one Spyder, as they all left.
Back in the cave, Yasco was pacing around the cave, growing more and more bitter by the second,
Where are those incompetent subjects of mine?! They should be here by now! Yasco paused.
What was she becoming?! She turned around to go sit back down when suddenly, the room grew darker.
"Who's there?!" Yasco yelled, scared a bit, suddenly...

...she turned around. She wasn't scared anymore. This was her cave, and she will not have intruders in it!
"Identify yourself," said Yasco in a very intimidating voice.
"Don't worry, your majesty," said a rather large Spyder who came through the opening of the cave which had
reappeared to let them enter, "it is just your loyal servants. We're so full of evil and darkness that we
suck up all the light from a place".
Yasco smiled. She liked the idea of her being a queen, even if all she ruled was a bunch of dirty Spyders.
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all. But still, she wanted more subjects, more revenge, and more... power.
Yasco sat down on a large rock in the shape of a throne that the Spyders just finished constructing, and put
her head in her hands. She began to think of how she might go about getting this when...

...a low rumbling sound echoed from above. Confused, Yasco snapped her head back and eyed the
cave's ceiling.
"Whose there?" she asked, now sounding more like a proud queen than her meek self.
When the rumbling began to slowly faded into a quite crunching sound, Yasco drifted back
into her thoughts about becoming more powerful. Just as she was about to order her Spyders
to find more subjects, Yasco saw to her horror that the ceiling was slowly collapsing.
Chunks of cave began to plummet to the ground and Yasco screeched. "Quickly Spyders!
Repair my cave!" she demanded.
Just then the Hallow's Eve black book flew to the ground and made a thump at Yasco's feet.
Yasco's memories of her life B.Q (before queen) raced back to her and a feeling of herself
washed through her.
The book's paged turned by them to page 179. The page was entitled, "To Transform from Spyderina
Back to Your Old Self!"
Yasco ordered a Spyder to retrieve the book. She loved being queen but she missed her owner.
Before she could read what is said she was back in her room on her bed. Maybe it was all a
dream, she thought. But then she saw the black book. She picked it up and saw a picture of
a Usul in a jelly-rat costume. It was still an hour until the party! It had all been a dream.
She picked up some thread and a needle... or should I, she thought. Yasco laughed.
