Dawn was approaching, and with it would come the blistering sun. Hukhmet raised his trunk
and swished it back and forth in the hot, dry air. He turned back to where his partner was
setting up their Desert Food Stall. With luck, the little Aisha would have the tent back up
before sunrise. Fierce winds had blown it down the night before. Mysterious winds, like none
Hukhmet had ever experienced in his many years in the desert...

...The little Aisha, Zurek, was setting up the last two poles as he said,
"Maybe we should just leave the Lost Desert. You never know if these mysterious winds might
come again. We can take a holiday! How about in Krawk Island? or in Faerieland? It would be
much funner than being blown about in a wind!"
"Can't you remember? We are here for a mission! We have to find out why...you know!"
Hukhmet shouted. He nearly forgot that their mission should be a secret and the Lost Desert
had spies everywhere.
"Why do we have to do that mission? It is so boring! I can't even imagine why Professor
Feronki asked us to do it," cried out Zurek.
"Be quiet! Let's look at this clue the Professor gave us," said Hukhmet as he opened a scroll of
old brown paper. "It says that when the chamber of the Scarabug is opened, the winds will
change...

..."But how can the winds change?" thought Zurek.
"Where is the Scarabug?" thought Hukhmet.
Together, Zurek and Hukhmet began walking into the loneliest part of the desert, pulled by an
unseen force. Nobody saw them leave.
When the hypnotic calling of the desert stopped, it was dusk and they stood in front of a
giant sand castle halfway sunk into the ground. Hukhmet and Zurek shook themselves, confused
and lost in the middle of the desert in front of a palace nobody had seen in hundreds of
years.
"Where are we?" whispered Zurek to the wind.
"Why are we here?" added Hukhmet.
All the answer they got was the soft sigh of the blowing wind...

...and the wind rolled into a gale force, which swirled around the castle, Hukhmet and
Zurek.
"We have to go inside, Hukhmet, if we stay out, we'll be killed for sure!" Zurek shouted
over the wind.
"I agree, but who knows what is in that castle? I don't know if we should take the risk,
even if it is dangerous out here," Hukhmet replied.
Just then, the wind picked up, and Hukhmet and Zurek were thrust towards the opening in the
palace. The howl of the wind drowned out the screams of the two Pets, and they thudded just
past the doors to the castle.
The sandy double doors banged shut, and all sound was drowned out by the mysterious winds
outside.
"Zurek, it looks like we have no, choice. We have to stay in here." Hukhmet sighed.
"Yes, but if we solve Professor Feronki's mystery, it'll all be worth it. And..." Zurek's
voice trailed off and his little Aisha eyes widened in fright...

...A massive figure loomed in a neaby doorway, cloaked by the shadows of the castle. "Who
dares enter my castle?" a deep voice demanded.
Hukhmet stood as straight as he could and tried to appear brave. "We meant no harm," he
said. "We were-"
"SILENCE!" boomed the voice. The figure stepped closer towards the two frightened Neopets.
He was a massive Desert Lupe - the biggest Lupe they had ever seen before. His eyes were as
icy as the distant Terror Mountain, and the desert sand clung to his fur like a veil. "You
will pay for trespassing," he announced in a low tone.
"We didn't mean to!" cried Zurek. "We don't know how we got here! Then, the wind pushed us
inside before we could get away."
Suddenly, the Lupe looked very afraid. "You are the ones," he whispered, pure terror
reflecting in his eyes...

...Without another word, the Lupe dashed down a hallway.
"That was weird," Zurek said nervously. "Should we follow him?"
Hukhmet hesitated, then nodded. They crept after the Lupe, following footprints left in the ancient sands.
After about an hour of fruitless following, the pair came up to two tall doors, each with
an iron ring for a handle. Hukhmet and Zurek both grabbed one and pulled as hard as they
could.
"Won't...open!" Zurek groaned.
"Locked," Hukhmet agreed. They slumped against the doors. But just as they did, the doors
swung inward, and the two friends toppled inside. As the doors swung themselves shut...

...the two Pets dusted the sand off themselves in the darkness of the room. The lone source
of light was a dimly lit candle in the north end of the room.
"Hukhmet," Zurek whimpered. "Maybe we should leave..."
Hukhmet nodded his head. Despite the darkness, Zurek felt his friend's agreement and they
turned around and pushed as hard as they had before. The door refused to budge, its ancient
metal frame denied the Pets any success.
"Stay away!!" The deep voice of the massive desert Lupe thundered across the room. "You
shall not be granted access into the Scarabug Chamber!! As long as I, the guardian of the
Scarabug lives, you shall not take a single step in there!"
Although the desert Lupe issued his command in the most commanding manner, the fear in his
voice lingered, much to the surprise of the two Pets...

...They saw a huge gold statue surrounded by flowers. Next to it, two stone pillars stood by
a wooden door with gold handles.
"Hukhmet...do you see what I see?" the Aisha said nervously as he stared at the statue.
"I-Its us!" Hukhmet said, amazed as he looked at the statue that strongly resembled them.
As Zurek scampered closer to examine it, he suddenly shouted excitedly at his companion,
"Hukhmet, look! It has an inscription at the bottom! 'When the chamber of the Scarabug is
opened the winds will change...'"
"...'Enter through here if you're brave, and the Desert you may save'," Hukhmet finished,
reciting along with his friend. Hukhmet looked at the big wooden door. "Look! The Lupe went
that way. We have to get to the chamber before him!"
Zurek trembled slightly. "I'm not really that brave, Hukhmet..."
Suddenly the wooden doors blew open...

...Hukhmet slowly approached the two doors that blew open, but Zurek hesitated. Hukhmet
could see nothing through the door but darkness, and there was a foul stench that came from
inside the doors. Zurek started to speak slowly.
"How did those doors blow open, Hukhmet?" he said, looking at his friend, not daring to
look into the darkness behind the door.
"It could have been wind..." said Hukhmet as his eyes stared into the darkness. "But I don't
feel any now... But we have to go in, Zurek! There's nothing to fear."
Zurek looked again at the statue of him and his friend. He then saw something that he
didn't see before - if it even was there before - two swords laying side by side at the
bottom of the statue. The hilts were black with small blue, red and yellow gems. Zurek
picked them up.
"Let's at least take these for protection," he said slowly. Then, without warning, a
furious wind came through the doors and slammed the two Neopets against the wall. There
came a great laughter (not an evil one, it actually brought them comfort - the wind was like
the breath of some huge being laughing), and then there was a great flash of light, and the
two friends saw the last thing they had expected...

..."Professor Feronki?!! Is that you?" the two Pets said in harmony. The light blinded their frightened eyes and
they could not see the figure behind the twinkling light.
The two Pets climbed to their feet, frightened half to death. They walked cautiously down the
long corridor following the Professor. They approached two huge doors made of pure gold
with a scarab carving and an inscription...
'When the chamber of the Scarabug is opened
the winds will change
Enter through here if you're brave,
and the Desert you may save.'
Filled with curiosity, Zurek picked up his sword. At the very bottom, he spotted a gold
Scarabug gem. Between the two doors, there seemed to be almost a lock... A key was needed to
open the doors to the Scarabug Chamber.
"Hey!!" Zurek exclamed. "This gem fits here!! It is the key!!"
Overjoyed, the Pets placed the gem into the lock. The doors slowly opened outward and something
gleamed in the distance. As the light shone through, the Pets found the greatest treasure of
their lives!!
Out of the blue, the cloaked Lupe appeared. "My treasure!! Mine! Mine! MINE!!"
As it turns out, the Lupe was a very old friend of the Professor. He had waited for several
years for the ones to open the door.
The Pets traveled back to their Desert tent with the great treasure, an exciting journey,
and a mind full of never before discovered secrets!
