We start a story and you have to write the next few paragraphs. We will select the best submissions every day and put it on the site, and then you have to write the next one, all the way until the story finishes. Got it? Well, submit your paragraphs below!

Story Twenty Two - Ended April 27th

Korteus was just your normal, average checkered Kau. She was young, bright, social, had a lot of friends and would do anything for the good of Neopia. While wondering around High Street she found 50,000 NPs on the floor. "Wicked! I'm finally gonna buy that Tornado Ring!" she exclaimed. And off she went to the Hidden Tower. When she got there, the Queen Faerie sent her away with no explanation. Korteus was truly disappointed, but she couldn't give up. It had always been her dream to wear such a ring, and now, since Neopia has been invaded by an evil group of Pant Devils, she would have to think fast. But there was a problem--she was short about 2 million Neopoints and there were over 150,000 Pant Devils left... Author :Neopets Staff

...so there was only one thing she could think of doing--namely gather an army to fight those Pant Devils! However, the problem was is that many Neopets were in the Tyrannian Army and wouldn't want to join another one. Korteus decided to appeal to the Faerie Queen for help. "Last week, at least 100,000 pant Devils came and stole all the items from the Tower. Even my magic was useless. Korteus, if you find those items and defeat those Pant Devils, I'll give you a Tornado Ring for nothing," the Faerie Queen said. Wow! Korteus was amazed. Possibly a free Tornado Ring, a quest from the Faerie Queen, it was all happening too fast, but she was glad it was happening to her. She asked her friend, Tocca, for help. Tocca was an unusually bright disco Acara. She had been top of Korteus' class and loved doing just about anything. Tocca quickly came up with an idea. "Ask the Neopets at the Battledome," she suggested. "They're plenty of pets willing to fight there." So Korteus and Tocca made their way to the Battledome. The prospect of fighting Pant Devils scared Korteus a little, but when she saw the poor owners and shopkeepers who'd lost all their items, she strengthened her resolve--to rid Neopia of Pant Devils. But on the way to the Battledome, disaster struck! A Pant Devil blocked their way. Despite being super bright, Tocca was of no use because she was only level 1. It was up to Korteus, a mighty level 16 Kau, to do something but she couldn't do it alone... Author :oily106

... and although Tocca would be more than willing to help, Korteus knew they would be no match for an evil Pant Devil. Korteus and Tocca discussed it for a while, then decided that there was really no way they could get past it on their own. Downheartedly, they decided to head back until they could figure something out. They decided, in an attempt to make themselves feel better, to discuss it over a slice of cake at the Neopian Cafe. But when they arrived at the coffee shop, they got quite a shock....Around the entrance to the building were crowds and crowds of Neopians, all gawping at something inside the building. When Korteus moved closer, she saw the Manager of the cafe standing on a small stage inside, grinning from ear to ear, a microphone plonked in front of him. His hand was rested on a strange shaped object draped in a huge tablecloth. Korteus couldn't hear anything he was saying, through all the talking and noise surrounding her. Then, Melvio the cafe owner, suddenly tugged on the cloth to reveal the most spectacular machine she had ever seen. It was huge, silver, and covered in levers, buttons, slots, lights, signs--too many to count, and a huge hole running through it, large enough to fit at least eight Neopians in. Finally Korteus could hear what he was saying, as the crowd fell silent with shock...."I present to you..." Melvio shouted, "My cloning machine!" The crowd stared in awe. "With this," he continued, "I hope to make ordering and cooking a thousand times easier, and to make this the greatest cafe in the whole of Neopia! When I put an item in this slot, I can duplicate it with just the push of a few buttons. Eight at a time, even. I hope you enjoy and make good use of this wonderful new machine!" The crowd burst with applause, everyone except Korteus. She had other things on her mind. And the revelation of the cloning machine had spun off many thoughts inside her head. One in particular... ...which was that she could use the cloning machine to clone herself in order to fight the Pant Devils. Melvio, she knew, would be willing to help as long as there was something in it for him. Melvio knew that the cloning machine would help feed all the hungry pets of Neopia, but she also knew it would give him a minor monopoly on the food business. Even at fair prices, he would be raking in the money. Korteus decided that an appeal to this side of Melvio could prove beneficial to their cause. She approached the cafe owner and asked him for a moment. He nodded, and the two of them stepped of to a corner. "Melvio, I am on a quest from the Faerie Queen to rid Neopia of the Pant Devils. But I can't fight them by myself. It would be much easier if I could clone myself. The Faerie Queen has already offered me a free Tornado Ring, and I'm sure she would give a reward to anyone who helped me out." Melvio grinned, thinking of... Author :kalen

...the lone Pant Devil who had heard of the cloning machine and came to him several weeks ago.

Flashback...


"With 100,000 of me running around Neopia, think of all the things we could steal! And, of course, you'd get a hefty percentage..." Snatch (for that was the Devil's name) had added persuasively. How could Melvio refuse? Only yesterday Snatch had brought him twenty-five different Tornado Rings, with the promise of more if--and only if--Melvio made his machine public. Melvio had wanted to complain that he was supposed to get a percentage of all items anyway, but instead asked, "Why do I have to make the machine public? I like it better just duplicating quietly; if I told people, they'd all want to use it!" "That's the point," whispered Snatch. "The Faerie Queen's been making trouble for me--or us," he added with a fiendish giggle. "She's been trying to build an army to fight, and pretty soon someone will catch on that your machine is a perfect weapon. Then, here's what you'll do..." Melvio cleared his throat.

Back in the present again...


"I'd love to help," Melvio declared to Korteus cheerfully. "How about coming to the cafe tonight at 11 pm? I'll have closed down by then, and we'll have some privacy. Go around and come in the back way." "Wow, thanks!" Korteus exclaimed. "I'll be there." That night, Korteus... 		Author :dawntiger

...walked into the back of the cafe. All the lights were turned off, so it was very dark, and everything cast eerie shadows all over the walls. "That's odd," Korteus thought. "I thought he would at least leave some lights on for me." But then she figured he didn't want anyone knowing about this. She looked around, and didn't see Melvio anywhere. Then she heard a noise from the far corner of the shop. "Melvio?" she called out. She walked over, and suddenly a net fell over her. "Hey!" she called out, getting tangled in the net. Just then she saw Melvio come out from behind a cabinet with...a Pant Devil! "Melvio, what's going on?" Korteus said, frightened all of a sudden. "Well, I'm getting a good percent of money going for me from this Pant Devil for letting him use my machine. I'll get even more if I capture everyone that wants to get rid of him. So when you wanted to use my machine to clone yourself to fight him, I thought of the perfect opportunity to capture you." He took a long piece of rope and wrapped it around Korteus, as she struggled against the netting, but it was no use. She couldn't break free, and now she was tied up. "What are you going to do to me?" she asked in a meek voice. "Oh, you don't need to know that right now," Melvio said nastily. He put a Lupe plushie in her mouth, so she couldn't talk and then put her in a sack with the rope and net still around her. Then he took the sack out to the alley and left it there. "Good work," said Snatch. "That's one troublemaker down. In time, we'll get rid of the rest. And, besides, I don't think that little Kau was going to be much of a problem anyway." With that Melvio and Snatch went back into the dark store, while Korteus tried to wiggle free... Author :neogirl888881

...she heard a shifting outside her sack. "Who...who's there?" she asked in a quivering voice. A cute giggle responded, "It's me, Tocca! You really didn't think I'd let you do this on your own, did you Korteus?" Then Tocca released her friend and gave her a hug. As Korteus picked up the sack, studying it, she began to think of a plan. She then ripped the sack in half and gave one half to Tocca, ripped two small holes in her half-of-a-sack and draped it over her body. "What do you think?" she asked Tocca. Tocca gave her a strange look, "Uhh, wha-" "I'm a Pant Devil!!" Korteus laughed. "Oh I see," Tocca replied and followed Korteus' plan. The two, after fitting Tocca in their new costumes, went back into town where everyone was still sleeping. They peeked through their little eyeholes and observed the scenery. They nodded to each other and separated. Korteus, I mean the ragged little Pant Devil, approached two real Pant Devils doing their thing in a nearby store. One of them heard her and dropped the item he was about to steal. "What is it?" the one asked. Korteus figured her disguise must have worked. Making her voice sound as raspy as possible, she said, "Uhh, erm...Snatch wants us all to meet at Melvio's, he says he's taking the plan a step further." The two Pant Devils exchanged glances and shrugged. Then they floated out of the store, taking their ill-gotten items with them. Meanwhile, Tocca was executing the same plan on another group of Pant Devils telling them to pass it on. About an hour later, Korteus and Tocca met the many Pant Devils at Melvio's café... ...Korteus gasped to herself when she saw how many Pant Devils there actually were. Tocca had done her job well, as she herself had. Korteus ran the plan through her mind once more, making sure that all was going well. She smiled under her disguise and walked up to the front of the store, in front of thousands and thousands of Pant Devils. Okay, here's my chance, I only hope that I don't blow this; there's too many of them to fight! she thought. She cleared her throat and a hundred thousand Pant Devils turned to look at her. "Uh, Snatch says that the time has come for our true victory!" she rasped. "Snatch has spoken, and he says that it is time for us to get rid of Melvio!" The Pant Devils all at once broke into identical evil grins. "Yes!" Korteus continued, "We must all band together and capture Melvio...tonight!" Oh no! Why'd I say that!? she thought to herself. "Meet back here in two hours, that's one hour before dawn," she said. The Pant Devils all mysteriously slipped away into the black of the night. All except one. It glided towards her, until it was close enough for Korteus to hear it's ragged breath. "What?" it rasped. It was only Tocca. "Nothing," she replied. "Now, for Part B of my plan, we have to find Melvio." Tocca nodded and followed Korteus through Neopia, all the way to Neopia Central. "You sure this is where he lives?" asked Tocca. "Pretty sure," said Korteus. They walked over to a neat little cottage and knocked on the door. A few minutes later, a very grumpy Melvio opened the door, grumbling about pesky salespeople. He looked at what appeared to be two Pant Devils on his porch and stepped back a little. "Oh yeah," said Korteus. She had forgotten about her disguise. She pulled off the costume, and Melvio stepped back further. "Look, there's no time for that now. All of the Pant Devils in Neopia are trying to get you!" exclaimed Korteus. "You only have about an hour and a half left. They'll all be at your café, and I need your help... Author :dragonmaster088

..."I knew those Pant Devils were back stabbers," exclaimed Melvio, "luckily I had a back up plan." Those were just the words Korteus wanted to hear. Both the Kau and the Acara were somewhat surprised at the speed with which Melvio rushed to the café. He seemed to be looking for something in particular when the trio arrived, rummaging through the entire contents of the building. "Ah, here we go," he sighed, holding up a device with a single button sticking out of it. Of course, by this time the two hours had come and gone. As the trio looked up their gazes were met by that of 100,000 pairs of angry eyes and one very, very angry set belonging to Snatch himself. Korteus and Tocca, both unsure of their safety took a step back, but Melvio just smiled, waving his prized button in the air. "The Super-Dooper-DeCloner, I made it so I could unclone everything at night so I wouldn't have to clean up. You sent your minions after me and now you'll pay." With that, the button was pushed... ..."No!!!!!!!" all the cloned Pant Devils yelled as they disappeared. "No! No! You trader!" Snatch yelled to Melvio. And with that the evil Snatch bounded on top of Melvio, knocking him out cold. Korteus gasped. "Why are you doing this, Snatch? Pant Devils shouldn't be this way! They should be friends with all the Neopets in Neopia, and everywhere else here!" Korteus bravely said. "Well, we Pant Devils have a long history of being bad and evil. And, well, my dear old friend, Melvio, betrayed me. And he had to pay! I wanted to be cloned so I could finally beat the Faerie Queen, and I knew this was my chance! And now you too will pay for ruining my plan!" the evil Pant Devil said. And he attacked Korteus while the frightened Tocca stood behind watching the cat vs. dog battle. Korteus used her Lightning beam to hurt the evil Pant Devil. It didnt hurt Snatch very much. "Gwa ha ha ha!" Snatch evily laughed. Then she used her Rainbow Beam, Lightning Beam, and Defend to attack. It hurt Snatch, but not enough. It was his turn. He used is Basic lightning beam, Rainbow beam, and fiercely attacked her! Korteus got knocked back, but was still up and going. "Grrrrr..." she growled. Then, with a final blast of her Rainbow gun, she defeated Snatch. "How about that? Ha! Your not as strong as most Neopets think!" Korteus said joyfully. "Tocca could beat you, and she's only level 1!" "Uh, don't involve me, please?" Tocca said frightfully. "Get out of here!" Korteus screamed at Snatch, and he disappeared. "That takes care of him!" Tocca said, sounding quite happy the fearsome battle was over. "C'mon! Let's get Melvio to the Neohospital!" Korteus said. She put him on her back, and galloped to the hospital.

The next day, Melvio had fully recovered. He told Korteus and Tocca why he had did what he did. And, to say sorry, gave them both a Tornado ring. "Thank you, but we are already gonna get one," Korteus said. "Well, if you want you can keep those, and have two of them, and eat at my café for free for two years!" Melvio said. "Thank you so much! See you later!" Tocca and Korteus said at the same time. When they told the Faerie Queen what they did, she gave them both another Tornado ring. "Wow! Two Tornado rings! And I was hoping to only get one!" Korteus said. "Thank you so much you two. You deserve them!" the Faerie Queen said. And with that, Korteus and Tocca ran off to tell their friends all about their adventure.
