Sparkling lemonade squeezed out of the can. Gus pressed his lips to the hole and tried to sip the fizzy foam before it spilt all over the place. When it ceased coming out, he licked his fingers, then wiped them on his shirt and took a huge sip of neocola. He gasped with pleasure and smiled at the Moehog who was sitting across the couch.
“I read on the news that...” Kaisa was interrupted by a loud belch. She glanced back at Yurble who gave his most naive smile.
“Gus!” she grunted through her teeth.
“Oh, yeah, excuse me,” Gus chuckled. “You were saying?”
“Manners, please! Why do I have to remind you all the time?”
“Kaisa, the news.”
She signed and proceeded: “Altador Cup is just around the corner. I was thinking that we should get back in shape.”
“What are you talking about? I’m in perfect shape.”
“If you are calling a circle a perfect shape, then yes.”
He thoughtfully scratched his stomach.
“The other day I saw our neighbour, you know, Callisto, running and exercising. I thought we could at least go for a hike or something, if not jumping right into serious workouts.”

Even a hike proved to be a lot of effort. Finding the right shoes, making sure they had all their supplies, not to mention finding the perfect trail. Kaisa handled every little detail, giving Gus ample time to stock his rucksack full of Neocola without her noticing.
Then, as expected, he complained every step of the way.
"I know your feet hurt!" Kaisa explained. "But this is the Cybunny trail! It's supposed to be the easiest one!"
"Maybe I'm just not cut out for hikes," Gus said. The Yurble stopped in his tracks, slid his bag off his shoulders, and pulled out the can of lemonade. Ignoring the angry looks from his friend, he downed the can in a single swig before tossing the can aside.
"You can't litter here!" Kaisa exclaimed, hurrying after the can as it teetered closer to the edge of a grassy hill partially obscured by trees. Just before she could reach it, the can tumbled down into the woods, with Kaisa tumbling right after it.
"Kaisa! No!" Gus called, hurrying to try and catch her, only to go head-first down the side of the hill. When he finally came to a stop, he found Kaisa angrily holding the empty can, but all he could see was the large shadow looming behind her...

"You two can't be here!" said the firm, but worried voice of a Techo in a head-to-tail white getup, "It isn't safe for Neopians without special gear!"
"Huh?" Gus blinked as he stood up, wiping himself off, "Why not?"
"Because I'm a Buzzer-keeper," the Techo explained, "and this is where my buzzer hives are!"
Kaisa shot to her feet like lightning. "Oh, no!" she cried, alarmed, "I'm allergic to buzzer stings!"
All three Neopets jolted when they heard the telltale sound of a sudden buzzing behind them.
"Well, Kaisa," Gus laughed nervously as he began to sweat, "You said you wanted to get some exercise, didn't you?"

"You better get out of here," the Techo told them, then pointed. "That way is the fastest way back to the path."
The pair started running, with the buzz of the Buzzers getting closer. As they neared the path, Gus began to slow down, his breath coming in gasps, a hand on his side.
"Can't...run...anymore...," Gus gasped out, as Keira looked back at her friend. Then she saw his backpack, and an idea struck her.
She ran back, grabbed the backpack from the Yurble, and pulled out a can of lemonade.
"This is...no time...for a drink...," Gus gasped out.
"I'm not taking one," Keira explained. "I have a plan that'll get those Buzzers off our backs." How will this story end?

...With the strength only possible with mortal fear, Kaisa shook the can, opened it, and chucked it at the Buzzers. Sugary and sticky lemon carbonated beverage spewed everywhere, soaking and rendering immobile some Buzzers, whilst others merely stopped to lap up the sweet nectar.
"Kaisa... you're a... a genius!" uttered Gus, dumbfounded, between breaths.
She took the rest of his Neocola and, like a 'pet possessed, mechanically opened and tossed the makeshift bombs at the Petpets, until each one was happily incapacitated. The Yurble gave a brief remorseful cry -- all his Neocola, gone! Albeit sacrificed for a noble effort, he supposed. He gave them a brief salute.
The two continued running until they were well out of sight of the Buzzers. Then, they slumped down beside a tall tree and panted heavily.
"So," started Gus, playfully annoyed, "was that exercise worth it, Kaisa?"
The Moehog gave her friend a knowing look. "I haven't seen you run like that in years." And then she tousled his head fluff.
"Hey!" He retreated. "But... yeah, I guess I just needed a bit of encouragement. Though, it was fun in its own odd way. We should definitely train together more often!"
The two hugged each other.
"Now," continued the Moehog, "let's get to Altador and sign up. I'm thinking Mystery Island this year? They have that cute new player after all."
"Eh," finished her friend with a dismissive wave of his paw. "Let's just join whichever team Callisto isn't on and show. Him. Up!"
Kaisa and Gus grinned at each other and started off toward Altador.
The End,
