Story Seventeen - Ended March 23rd
They had just built their first NeoHome and recently put the finishing
touches on the tenth room, but, sadly, it was time to leave it all behind. They had crystal chandeliers in
every room, a top of the line heating system, and satellite security, not to mention marble floors.
Life was good until poor, poor Sacchhi's owner had lost it all in the stock market. She tried everything
to keep the house, even a few dangerous games of Dice-A-Roo and Cheat, which both resulted in nothing but
more debt. So Sacchhi packed up all his toys and books and even his dusty Step Out Shoes, and waited
to see where his owner wanted to go, maybe the Cockroach Towers...

...Sacchhi's owner, Rosshhi, was looking through the phone books searching for a cheap apartment. He tried
everything such as "Creaky Cabins" and "Pots and Pits". After looking up a hotel, he'd look back to
Sacchhi and say, "No, sorry. Too much money." Sacchhi kept his head and tried to keep his owner's hope
alive. "If there's any way to make money... I'll do it!" And in no time at all Sacchhi left to his room.
As he sat emptying his piggybank, he managed to grab at least 20 NP or so. "Not nearly enough," said Sacchhi.
Then he yanked on Rosshhi's pants leg to get his attention. "Rosshhi, can we go to Faerieland?" Rosshhi
thought a little, then replied "I guess...if you think it'll help. I'll try anything." Then they hitched
a taxi and left for Faerieland. "Did y'know the stocks dropped?" the cabbie asked them. Rosshhi and Sacchhi
rolled their eyes together. "Yes, and it got rubbed in our faces," Sacchhi retorted. As they arrived in
Faerieland, Sacchhi dragged his owner to the Poogle races. "Hey, you gotta pay for that!" the cabbie yelled.
When they arrived at the Poogle races, they walked up to the Scorchio ticket-seller. Sacchhi gave the money
he retrieved from his piggybank to Rosshhi, who was unsure of what Sacchhi wanted him to do, just gave the money
to the ticket-seller. The Scorchio leaned over to the broke duo and asked, "So, who are 'ya bettin' on?" "How
about uh...number two." Sacchhi smiled at the good choice. The Scorchio looked at them and shook his head. "Number
two has a bad case of itchy scratchies and can't race," he said. The other choices looked pretty pathetic. "Well,
we lost even before the race began, Sacchhi," said Rosshhi sadly. "Wait, this is kinda stupid, but...I'm a Poogle
and I'm pretty fast...I'll race," said Sacchhi...

...and before he knew it, he was strapped up in the Number 2 racing uniform, pacing wildly at the starting line,
his nerves eating him up inside. His owner looked nervously at him, but tried to give him a reassuring smile.
Rosshhi pulled Sacchhi aside and said, "I've got our last 2000 NPs riding on you. Good luck. "Yeah, good luck,"
Sacchhi said to himself as his owner walked away. The Number 3 Poogle glared a Sacchhi. "You're going to need all
the luck in Neopia to beat us...we're professionals," he finished, eyeing him up and down as if Sacchhi were some loser
from off the street. Sacchhi stiffened in surprise and just said, "Well...thank you...." He turned back to the
starting line and waited for the judge to shoot the gun. "On your mark...get set...GO!" Sacchhi was got a good start,
knowing he couldn't disappoint his owner, and that this was their last chance to make it in Neopia. He didn't even
know if he was winning or losing, all he could see was the finish line, which seemed so very far away...

...he pushed himself harder, and heard a lot of cheering. "Hurray! Hurray!!!" He was confused, and crossed
the finish line in a daze. Everything was like a dream... the excitement... the cheering... the handing of
the gold cup to... NUMBER 4?! He hung his head in shame as Rosshhi took off the racing uniform and hugged him.
"Oh, you tried your best," she said sadly. But TRIED is not enough! I must BE the best! Sacchhi thought.
The two slowly trudged to the Soup Kitchen for a free soup dinner. The Soup Faerie smiled sweetly as they held
out their bowls. "Hey there, I haven't seen you two around. What are your names?" she asked. Since they were the
last to get soup, Rosshhi and the Soup Faerie engaged in a long conversations, Rosshhi telling about the stocks,
and the Soup Faerie replying with kind 'mm hmms and 'I sees. Sacchhi looked around as he saw other owners with
pets eating their dinner. Then, he spotted a pretty little pink Poogle, and her owner was a young guy. Hopping
over, he spoke to the pink Poogle. "Hey," he said. "What's your name?" The other Poogle's name was Razberreez,
and her owner was Gazallo. Gazallo looked pretty lonely, and when looking up at him, Sacchhi had a brilliant plan.
"Razberreez-" he started. "Call me Razzie," she said. "Razzie, have you heard of the Wishing Well?" "Wishing what?"
Razzie said, excitedly. Sacchhi took a deep breath, "We go to the Wishing Well and wish for good luck...you know,
for our owners." Razzie said, "But no one wishes for anything but items, and," Razzie stuttered, "where will we
get the Neopoints?" "I know a high-flying group I can ask for a favor... it's a bit dangerous though, but it's
our last hope..."

...So the next day, after Sacchhi introduced Gazallo and Rosshhi and the two owners began comparing their
"how I lost it all" stories. Razzie and Sacchhi hitched a ride on a sled and arrived in Happy Valley. "Tell
me again why we're here?" Sacchhi asked. "It's FREEZING!" "I told you, I know a high-flying group and the
only way to get to them is go up Terror Mountain." Razzie replied, "Terror Mountain!? Maybe this isn't such
a good idea after all." "Or you could try the Ice Caves." "The Ice Caves! That's it, you can meet me back a
the Soup Kitchen," Sacchhi said as he turned to go find another sled. Razzie grabbed him and pulled him back.
"Wait a second, you have to come and be brave. That's the only way we're ever going to get the Poogle Racer's help."
Sacchhi stopped trying to run away. "The Poogle Racers?!? You mean that elite group that fly off of cliffs?" Razzie
let go of Sacchhi, "Yes those Poogle Racers. Now come on we have to make it up the mountain before noon." Sacchhi
obediently followed her up the treacherous mountain path. After only a few stumbles and one near-fall-off-experience
they reached the top. "Follow me," Razzie said, "I know where their headquarters is." She ran a little ways up the
hill to a small castle-like building near the Snow Faerie's house. Sacchhi walked right up to the door and knocked.
Razzie just shook her head and stood behind him. The door opened and standing there was the Captain Poogle himself.
Sacchhi couldn't find the words to say. He just stared in amazement. The captain looked annoyed until he saw Razzie.
"Ah, Razzie, we haven't seen you since you left with Gazallo, come in and bring your friend too." Sacchhi looked at
Razzie with even more amazement then before. She laughed and led him inside where they were given hot cocoa and a nice
seat by a warm fireplace. "So why are you here?" the Poogle captain asked. "Well, Alfonzo, my owner and Sacchhi's owner
both have lost all their money and Sacchhi had this great idea to make a wish at the wishing well. Since we have no NPs
I was thinking that you and your team could help us." "Well, I'll have to see if my counselor agrees. But help
you do what?" "Well, if me and my buddy here complete the "Poogle Racer" challenge, and get it the race sponsored by
Neocola, then we take half the profits," Razzie said, while Sacchhi's jaw dropped to the ground. Alfonzo stood up and
called for his counselor. A little blue Poogle appeared at the door and Alfonzo went over and began talking to him in
whispers. After a few minutes he came back over to Razzie and the still amazed Sacchhi. "He says that the Poogle Racers
would be glad to help, but on one condition..."

..."He says you must complete the following task. Go into the cave of the Snowager, and bring him back a happiness Negg.
The master is very depressed these days." Sacchhi shuddered at the thought of having to enter the Snowager's cave. It had
eaten many Neopets recently. Sacchhi said to Razzie, "Isn't the Snowager supposed to have treasure? Is that why we're going
there?" "Yes," said Razzie. The two Poogles arrived at a very different Ice Caves than they were told about. There was a
huge split, and lava was spewing out. The Snowager's cave looked strangely empty. They walked past the few pets that still
were there, and into the cave of the Snowager. They crept along very slowly, and finally peeked around the corner to see a
huge pile of treasure, with Neggs, snowballs, and other stuff. Around the whole mound was curled the longest snake they had
ever seen! It was the Snowager! "I think it is asleep," whispered Razzie. Sacchhi took one step towards the treasure, and
suddenly the Snowager twitched. Sacchhi ran back around the corner. "Come on! It's asleep! What could it possibly do?"
whispered Razzie, just below her breath. So Sacchhi went back out. He crept very slowly towards the pile, and the Snowager
twitched again. Sacchhi froze. "Go on," whispered Razzie. Sacchhi could feel his heart pounding as each step brought him
closer and closer to the icy beast. He looked, and spotted a happiness Negg nestled right beside the Snowager's icy body.
He gently tried to lift it, but it was stuck tight. He picked up another Negg beneath the happiness Negg, which was a
Kaleideonegg, and rolled it back to Razzie quietly. The Snowager was lying still. Sacchhi managed to gently work the Negg
out from under the Snowager. He rolled it back to Razzie, and suddenly the Snowager's eyes snapped open...

...Sacchhi was paralyzed beneath the icy stare of the Snowager. The great ice worm lifted its massive head, almost
touching the cave ceiling. The color drained from Sacchhi's cheeks as he looked upon the full length of the Snowager.
He stood there for what seemed like hours, trembling at the sight. The snake blinked and opened its mouth. Sacchhi
threw his paws over his head and ducked down, waiting to be enveloped in the Snowager's frozen teeth. A great roar
shook the cave, drowning out any other noise. Then a huge blast of frozen air blew Sacchhi back, along with the Happiness
Negg. When the frightened Poogle looked up, the Snowager was sound asleep, curled around his glistening horde of treasure.
The two Poogles had what they needed and more...

..."Run!!" said Razzie. "Quick, before he wakes back up!!" Sacchhi needed no second bidding. They ran and ran and
ran until they were out of the ice caves. "Whew!! I wouldn't do that again if you paid-" Sacchhi realized with
dread, "Actually I would, because that's why I did it in the first place." He turned to Razzie. "What do we do now?
I'm starving!! Rosshhi hasn't been able to feed me since the stocks went down!!" Razzie said, "Same with me,
but we should go back to the Poogle Captain. We may never eat again--besides the Soup Kitchen--until we do."
As they turned back toward the Poogle Racers, the duo thought it was a good idea to bury some of their treasure
and come back to find it after they raced down the hill. Razzie gave Sacchhi a wink and said, "We'll come back later
and get the stuff." Sacchhi agreed, "Our owners will be so proud of us...

...Sacchhi and Razzie quickly brought the Happiness Negg back to the Poogle Racers, who were quite happy to see it.
The Poogle Captain bit into the juicy fruit and immediately felt better. The Captain came out of his chamber to
thank the two courageous Poogles personally. "You two are very brave to face the Snowager all by yourselves.
As promised, we will allow you to take the Poogle Racer Challenge." Sacchhi suddenly got this feeling in the pit
of his stomach. "What exactly is the Poogle Racer Challenge, anyway?" He wondered if anyone else noticed the slight
tremble in his voice. "Oh, it's quite simple," replied the Captain. "There is a racetrack on the other side of the
mountain. You must run against one of the Poogle Racers. If you win, the prize is yours." That pit feeling inside
Sacchhi got a little stronger." "And," Sacchhi asked, "who will we have to race?" The Captain smiled and gave a
little laugh. "Why, me of course!" Razzie and Sacchhi looked at each other...

..."But, but..." Sacchhi started to stutter, "We can't race you!" Razzie interrupted the stuttering. "And may I
ask why not?" said the Captain. "Well, because you're the Captain, Alfonzo, that's why," Sacchhi replied. "Well, then,
I guess you don't need to go to the wishing well that badly, now do you?" Sacchhi shut his mouth and looked at Razzie.
She gave him a gaze and then a nod. "Okay," said Sacchhi. "I'll do it." The next day Sacchhi and Razzie woke up early
and got ready. They were in the middle of stretching when Alfonzo trotted up. "You ready?" he asked the young Poogles. "Yup,"
Razzie replied. She straightened up and grabbed Sacchhi by the hand and dragged him to the starting line of the race track.
Alfonzo put on Uniform #3, Razzie was #1, and Sacchhi was #2. "Lucky number 2," he mumbled under his breath, remembering
the last time he had worn that number. The three lined up at the starting line and eyed the judge. "On your mark...get
set...GO!" And they were off, Sacchhi ahead in a daze and Alfonzo and Razzie not far behind. All he could see was the
finish line. As soon as it had started, the race was done and the crowd was cheering. Sacchhi stopped and looked
around. The crowd was cheering his name! He had won! He had gotten the golden Poogle Medallion. "Not
many Poogles have beaten me, young lad," the Captain said. "Razzie here has tried and still hasn't caught up, but
you were determined so much to help your owner and I admire that..."

..."So the Poogle Racers have decided to give you this along with that medallion of course..." The Captain disappeared
for a moment and came out with a large sack of Neopoints! "Here, 10,000 Neopoints! That should get you a pretty good
wish, right?" Razzie and Sacchhi's faces glittered with excitement and appreciation, "Thank you, Captain!" said Sacchhi
as they heard the crowd cheering, "SACCHHI! SACCHHI!" Sacchhi waved good-bye to the crowd and shook hands with the
Captain before leaving with Razzie. They made their way to the Wishing Well, and took a scrap sheet of paper and
wrote down their long-awaited wish:
Sacchhi and Razzie wish good luck to their owners in making more NP so that they can continue life as they knew
it before they lost it all.
Crossing their fingers, they dropped their wish and the NPs into the well. All that was left to do now was wait, and that
was going to take anywhere from up to 18 hours!! But as they made their way back to the Soup Kitchen, where their owners
were waiting impatiently for them, Sacchhi turned to Razzie and asked, "How long have we been gone?" Razzie shrugged her
shoulders. Both of their owners were standing outside of the kitchen, reading a Neomail. They didn't look very happy...

...Rosshhi read the Neomail silently, looking puzzled. "Where have you two been, Sacchhi...and did you make a wish
at the Wishing Well?" he asked quietly. Sacchhi looked down. "Yes. It didn't work," he sad sadly. Rosshhi's face
brightened. "So that's what this is about!" he exclaimed, handing the Neomail to Sacchhi. It read: "Congratulations,
Sacchhi and Razzie! Your wish has been granted! Your owners will now have much luck and gain back all the Neopoints
they lost!". Sacchhi couldn't speak for a moment. "Razzie...we...we did it! Our wish came true!" He hugged her
and then turned to Rosshhi. His eyes were misty, and his mouth hung open. "Sacchhi! You did this for me?" he asked.
Sacchhi nodded yes. Rosshhi fell to his knees and held on to his thoughtful Poogle. "You saved us, Sacchhi! We're
going back home!" Sacchhi and Razzie jumped for joy. Sacchhi looked at his owner and said, "Do you think I could get
one of those new rare robot-pets for my old room?" Rosshhi just smiled. Razzie whispered into Sacchhi's ear, "Should
we tell them about the treasure we buried up on the mountain?" Sacchhi replied, "Nah, we'll save that for another day...another
adventure..."
