Taking a quick glance at her Pocket Calendar, Miranda the Shoyru
noticed it had been almost a year since she'd brought home her Puppyblew Belle. "Wow," Miranda
thought, "I sure would like to get Belle one of those new PetPet Paint Brushes... she'd look
marvelous in pink!" However, when she went to market to pick one up, Miranda realised that a
PetPet Paint Brush was a little more than what she could afford. Disappointedly walking home,
she tried to think of another, more affordable gift. That's when she heard...

...a Kiko shouting, "One and all, tonight the talent contest will take place! Can you sing and dance?
Fly or swim? Burp bubbles, or have 30 toes? Well, if there's something unique about you, or you have
some talent, come tonight to the Mighty Kiko Talent Show! First place wins a PetPet Paint Brush!"
Miranda knew she had to enter the talent show. "But what can I do?" she thought to herself. Then
she remembered...

...that she had a very special talent. Smiling to herself as she picked up a pen, Miranda heard a
voice. "Oh, you're not signing up, are you? You don't have a chance against me." Miranda
could feel her blood boil. "Hello Gracie," she said through her teeth, "how pleasant to see you."
The blue Cybunny smiled smugly. "I'm going to win that PetPet Paint Brush, and I'm going to use it
on my pwetty witty Snorkle Truffles! Ain't that right, Truffly Wuffly?" Truffles snorted. "Listen,"
Miranda said, "I think you seriously need to back off Gracie, or..."

...But, before Miranda could finish her sentence, Gracie was long gone. "Oh, who really cares about you anyway...I
mean, what's so great about you?" She looked back at her pen and began to write out her name and
address... at least she could show off her talent before Gracie did, hopefully everyone would love it and
she'd win... WOW... Miranda gazed up at the sky, how pretty her little Belle would be... if only... Miranda sighed,
and finished filling out her form. Then she noticed something in the window of a nearby shop,
Wow! That would get her the prize no doubt...

...Do you ever wonder how you can get great talent... OVERNIGHT? read the sign. Miranda smiled.
It's like they know me! she thought. She went inside the shop to see what the sign was all about.
As she walked in she was surprised to see a large Skeith cuddling a teddy bear. She cleared her throat
and the Skeith threw the teddy bear across the room.
"Um, uh, I-i-i don't see how anyone could like such junk," he stammered.
Miranda looked confused. "But you were just--oh never mind. I saw the sign in your window and I wanted to ask
you what I need to do."
The Skeith looked surprised. "Wow! You're the first person that's asked me about it. A Kyrii was about to, but
somehow he got this stupid idea that I played with teddy bears. Well, all you have to do to get talent is..."

...read this book." The Skeith handed Miranda a thick, heavy blue book. "This book has over 300 simple yet
amazing talents you can learn practically over night." Miranda looked at the book. It was titled Stunning,
Strange, but Simple, an Encyclopedia of Talents. Miranda flipped through the pages, and saw classic
talents (card tricks, playing instruments, dancing, singing) and some talents that she had never heard of like,
pull a Warf out of the hat, and make a blood mushroom fly. Miranda decided she needed all the help she could
get, so she decided she would buy it.
"How much does this book cost?" asked Miranda. The Skeith, startled, turned to look at her. He had been
nervously watching a young Lupe, who was looking at a teddy bear.
"Oh, uh, 400 NP," the Skeith stuttered. Miranda handed him her 400 NP and headed out the door. Suddenly, she ran
into Gracie, smirking. She was hiding something behind her back.
"What's so funny?" asked Miranda, very annoyed.
Gracie giggled. "Teehee...guess what I've got..."

Miranda hugged the book to herself, hiding the cover.
"Whatever it is I really don't care," she mumbled walking away.
"A snowball!" Gracie threw a yellow snowball right at the back of Miranda's head.
"Hey--" she fell to the ground, her book rolling off onto the dirt ground. Hurriedly she stuck her paw out to
pick it up. Truffles was too quick for her as it ran and picked it up in her dainty little mouth than gave it
to Gracie.
"Oh, what's this?" Gracie smirked.
"Give it back!" Miranda jumped up and attempted to take it away from her.
"An encyclopedia of talents huh," she laughed out loud. "So, you really don't have any talents, just a dumb
little book. At least I know you won't be any competition for me," she said throwing the book on the floor. "Let's
go Truffles, and give you a nice little bubble bath," she walked, away ignoring Miranda.
Miranda could feel tears stinging her eyes. Gracie was right, she would be no competition for whatever she had
planned.
"How may I help you?"
"Huh?" she said looking up to find an Air Faerie fluttering right above her head...

..."You are crying," said the Air Faerie. "And since I just won a game of bingo at the Faerie castle, I'm in a really
good mood. Why are you crying?"
"Well," Miranda sniffled, "I really wanted to get my Puppyblew Belle a PetPet Paintbrush because she loves the colour
pink and I wanted to paint her pink but I didn't have enough money and so I wanted to enter the talent competition but
I know that I'm going to lose and Gracie knows it too because she saw this book I have about how to get a talent and now
I'll never get Belle the PetPet Paintbrush!" Miranda sat down in the melting snowball and began to cry wholeheartedly.
"Ohhh," the Air Faerie said with realization.
Miranda suddenly remembered her manners and stood up, wiping off the yellow snowball. "Um, would you like to come back
to my house and meet Belle? I can make us tea."
The Air Faerie smiled gently and agreed.
Back at Miranda's house, the Air Faerie scratched Belle's tummy while she talked to Miranda about talents. "It's really
very simple," she explained. "I can teach you how to sing in a little over an hour."
Miranda blushed and said, "I can't sing. My chorus teacher threw me out of the class because she said she got a headache
every time I walked through the door. I'm really awful."
The Air Faerie giggled and said, "No, it's not your actual singing that improves. It's your talent." She pulled out a bag
from behind her back and said, "This is a bag of songbird crystals. It will help limber up your voice and help you hit the
right notes. All you have to do is...

...put them in your shoes, and make sure they touch your feet. Do this at least an hour before the talent show.
You need that much time to help get the magic going. And don't worry if they poke a bit at first. You'll get used
to it."
Miranda frowned a bit at the Air Faerie's words. Put the songbird crystals in her shoes? She glanced down at her
soft slip-ons and shrugged.
"If it'll help, I'll do it," she said firmly.
"Great!" the Air Faerie smiled. "Glad I could help." And then she disappeared in a funnel of wind.
"Didn't even stay for her tea," Miranda grumbled. "But that's okay, right, Belle?" Miranda leaned over and tickled
the PetPet between her ears. Belle giggled and a huge smile spread across her face. Miranda sighed. She wanted the
paintbrush so much! And then she remembered what the Air Faerie had said. The talent show was in less than an hour! She'd
have to put the crystals in her shoes right away, or they might not work. Miranda pulled off her shoes and gently took one
of the shiny ovals from the bag and placed it in her shoe, but when she put her foot back in the shoe, she realised with
a shock of anger that it wouldn't fit...

..."Oh great!" screamed Miranda angrily. "Now what am I going to do?! Oh what's the use anymore?" She stamped her foot
on the ground, accidentally smashing the songbird crystal to pieces. "Arrrgh!! I can't do anything right!" Then
it struck her. Now that the crystal was smaller, she could easily fit the pieces in her shoe! Would it still work
though? "Well, it's worth a try." Miranda gathered the pieces, and placed three in each shoe. Then she slid in her feet,
and to her amazement they fit! "Let's go Belle. Off to the talent show!"
Minutes later she was at the show. She looked down at her Puppyblew and said, "Now all we have to do is wait..."

...When it was Miranda's turn, she walked up to the stage. She was about to sing when all of a sudden, the shoes stared
to sing! they magically came of Miranda's feet and also danced ballet-sytle. Miranda and everyone in the audience was
very surprised. But Miranda was also extremely embarrassed. If word got out about the singing shoes, she couldn't go out
in public ever again. She would be known as "Singing Shoe Miranda". But the singing coming from the shoes was so beautiful,
it could make the Faerie Queen jealous. When the shoes stopped singing, everyone was quiet. Miranda was thinking, "Oh no!
They don't like it, I'll never be out in public again!" But then the audience busted into the loudest applause in all of
Neopia! Miranda almost fainted. The judges ran on to the stage and announced, "We don't need to see the rest of the
competition, we have a winner!!!!" Miranda was so surprised! she finally got the PetPet Paint Brush she wanted for Belle.
But when she got the brush, she was shocked she won a green brush! Oh well... Belle may like being green instead...
