Nobody knew where she came from or how she got to Neopia. All they knew was
that she had showed up in a little basket on Dr_Death's doorstep one bright Saturday morning, crying
like a... well, she was one. Everyone thought that Dr_Death would surely stick her right into the
pound but there was just something about her that made him keep the little red Poogle...

...some say it was her wonderful gleaming coat, or her cute tiny ears, or maybe it was just her
helplessness that made Dr_Death keep her. But in truth it was her eyes. Her big blue eyes
stared up with love at Dr_Death, and as Dr_Death picked her up she immediately stopped crying.
Soon she began to giggle. Dr_Death looked down with affection upon the minute poogle and began
to croon and murmur baby talk: "Aboo Aboo Aboo! What shall we name this wittle cutie wutie baby...

...Dr_Death, for once in his life, loved someone. He thought long and hard on what he should name
his little Poogle. Finally, he decided to name her Rose, for two reasons. One was that her coat
was a beautiful red colour. The main reason, though, was that on her forehead was a little rose.
The little rose glimmered and shimmered like a jewel in sunlight. The amazing thing about the rose,
though, was that whether it was dark or bright, it always gleamed and sparkled. Dr_Death often
wondered about that rose--it looked as if Rose had been born with it. Finally, he came up with
a sensible idea. He decided he'd track down who gave birth to the little Poogle. Dr_Death
researched for days and days, constantly making inquiries, but no one had ever seen the little
Poogle before or even knew anything about her parents. One night, Dr_Death had an all-too-real dream. The
Faerie Queen came to him and told him that his Rose was not an ordinary Poogle, and that in time
he would find out what power the rose on her forehead had. She told him that Rose had not been
born, but given to Dr_Death for a reason. This reason, however, the Faerie would not reveal to
him. "You will find out in time," the Faerie Queen told him....

...when Dr_Death arose, he tried very hard to forget the dream, saying that it was "just a dream".
However, nothing he did could take his mind off of what the Faerie Queen had told him, not even
putting helpless pets in small cages, and he was desperate to find out what she had meant. So
for days and days Dr_Death sat with Rose, trying to figure out what power Rose's rose contained,
but nothing was revealed to him. Finally, he gave up, and returned to his normal affairs.
Nothing extraordinary happened for quite some time, until one day when he was playing Pyramids
in his study with Rose on his lap...

...and he was losing terribly. His anger rose and he began ranting and raving about how the game
was rigged. Suddenly, as though Rose had felt his anger, the rose on her head turned a blinding
greenish colour and she rose into the air. Dr_Death could only see the whites of her eyes as she
yelled out something in a strange language. All the cards suddenly leapt up and rearranged
themselves so that the game was beaten. Rose sank down and was immediately asleep. When she had woken
up Dr_Death asked her about it...

...she just replied, "What? I have been asleep..." Dr_Death shoed her off, and thought out loud
sitting back in the chair, "If she can change things so that I can win," he paused a moment. "I
could go to the Poogle Races with her and bet 500 all the time." He leaned back in his chair staring
at the deck of cards sitting neatly on his desk. "Yyeess." The next morning, he took Rose to the
Poogle Races, Trying to avoid anything else Faerieland. Rose was excited, she wanted to see all the
contestants, and run herself. As Dr_Death was heading for the betting stands, he thought again. "If
I COULD somehow enter her, and she won..." He went up to the Scorchio in the stand. "May I make a
suggestion?"
"Um, not really."
"Oh come on... it may better your chances to ask someone who sees the Poogles befor-"
"I SAID NO!"
Dr_Death said trying not to attract to much attention, "Just give me a ticket for number five,
500 NP to bet." Rose was watching him yell. Before the Scorchio even turned around, Rose floated
up to the counter with her rose glowing the bright green, and speaking the gibberish language. The
ticket ribbon started to glow a paler green as a ticket broke off and floated to Dr_Death. Then Rose
floated to Dr_Death's arms and curled up. He nodded to the Scorchio who was staring at him wide-eyed,
and walked away. Finally the races were staring. All Dr_Death had to do was pretend he was mad at
number five, and Rose would make him win... Dr_Death had one of those smiles on his face that was
both happy and proud, but yet with a little evil in between.
"And they're off!" Boomed the PA, "No, come on hurry five! No!" Dr_Death pretended to yell...
Rose shot up from his arms with her rose glowing again. "Yes, YES! Uh...ROSE, NO!" He yelled for
real. Rose wasn't stopping, she was following number five and just got on the track. She lowered her
self and began to run right behind number five. The crowd began to laugh thinking that Rose would
chase the Poogle all the way to the finish line. But then they all gasped and cheered when she was
at the finish line before the others were three quarters of the way there... Rose floated over to
Dr_Death again, and fell asleep tired.
Two rather large Lupes walked up to Dr_Death. "Is that your pet sir? You have to pay a penalty, no
pet or owner must interfere with the racers." Dr_Death began to clutch the sleeping Poogle, backed
about three steps and began to run right in between them to surprise them. They began to chase him,
and it was very hard to run with innumerable people and pets everywhere. Suddenly Dr_Death stopped.
He could see in between the crowd that there were those lupes all around him heading closer. He
stared at Rose, still sound asleep. "I thought you were suppose to bring me some good luck"...

...Rose awoke, and smiled sweetly. "Me?" she asked innocently. "Bring luck? I sure do! You just have to
look closer," she said as she curled up in his arms, and fell asleep again. Her big eyes closed, and
she concentrated hard in her sleep. The rose turned... orange!?!?!? It turned the brightest of bright
oranges, and shone like the sun. She floated upwards, and turned to face the Lupes, who were seconds
away from apprehending Dr_Death and his little Rosie wosie. The light was blinding, and it dazzled those
Lupes. Rose turned her beam on Dr_Death, and...

...Dr_Death stared at Rose. The rose on her forehead was turning every colour of the rainbow and
sparkling like a thousand diamonds. Then, in an instant, the rose flashed a blinding white and Rose
fell into his arms. The Lupes were still advancing on him, scared looks on their faces. Dr_Death
stopped and stared. The Lupes came to a standstill in front of him. "You need to, to, to....." the
Lupe stuttered and the other reached into his jacket. The looks on their faces were dreamy and their
eyes out of focus. "Here." The Lupe with the jacket handed him a bag. "5,000 Neopoints," he said.
Dr_Death stared. Instead of paying 5,000 Neopoints, the guards GAVE him 5,000 Neopoints. He looked
at Rose. Her forehead twinkled. She wasn't asleep, but the excitement had exhausted her. "I told you..."
she murmured. Dr_Death smiled at her. It was the first time he had smiled in a long time. Rose put her
arms around his neck and the two went home. When they walked past the ticket box, Dr_Death looked
in the window and saw the Lupes flailing their arms and yelling. One looked straight Dr_Death and
pointed...

...Dr_Death turned and ran. After a while he came to thinking, "Why am I running? I am an evil mad
scientist!!" A small voice reached the Dr_Death, "You're not as evil as you think you are." He looked
down and saw his little Poogle smiling at him. Then he reached into his cloak and took out a small
controller. After pushing a few buttons, he stopped and waited. The Lupes that were chasing him
suddenly stopped and looked into the sky. There in the clear blue sky was a huge black ship that looked
like a cage. It stopped for enough time for Dr_Death to get on. Then it disappeared. The Lupes were
dumfounded. They shook their heads and left. Back in Dr_Death's pound, Rose was resting while Dr_Death
sat not too far away. "What did Rose mean? I am the most evil mad scientist in all of Neopia! Next to
Dr. Sloth, that is." But at the other end of the room, unnoticed by Dr_Death, Rose was smiling...

...Rose got up and walked to Dr_Death. "Dr_Death, you are only as evil as you imagine you are. Now that
I'm here..." Suddenly there was a knocking at the door. "Open up!" Dr_Death opened the door to a Ghost
Lion! "I am here to take Rose! Give her to me!" Dr_Death tried to slam the door, but the Ghost Lion walked
through. He brought some creatures from the Gallery of Evil too. They were taking his Rosie Wosie away!!!
Dr_Death tried to stop them but he was no match, he was only a twisted veterinarian. "Rose! Use your-"
Rose's rose wasn't gleaming brightly, Dr_Death hadn't noticed that the rose had turned black, and the
evil creatures grabbed her and took her away. "Rose! No! Please, please stay Rose! Faerie Queen! Bring
her back! Oh Rose..." But it was too late, Rose was gone. Dr_Death began to cry...

...and then he heard a strange noise, like the rustle of silk. When he looked up it was the Faerie
Queen standing above him, staring down at him. His Techo eyes shimmered with hope.
"Oh, Faerie Queen, please help me! They've taken my Rose away from me!" he sobbed, "Get her back,
do anything to get her back!"
She smiled at him, not unkindly, and gestured to a mirror in the room.
"Look," she said, and he stood up, still crying, and glanced in the mirror. His eyes were red
from crying, but they no longer bore the cruelness they once had. His features looked softer even,
not hardened from scowling and frowning.
"Rose taught you a lesson, Dr_Death," she told him. "She taught you that loving is better than
hating, good is better than evil, and if you look inside yourself you can be the person you want
to be."
"But she's gone!" he protested, "and I can't live without my Rosie wosie! She was so special to
me! Now everything is lost!"
"Everything is not lost," she said gently. "Rose may be gone, but she has completed her mission.
You are a new person. A better person!"
"I want her back, though," Dr_Death wailed.
"You don't need her. Rose is unique and special, but she is not essential. Besides, there are millions of
other pets that need your help at the pound."
With a swish, the Faerie Queen disappeared and Dr_Death was left standing alone. He wiped the last
tear from his eye and looked at his reflection once more and then suddenly broke into a smile. The
smile made his face look younger, handsomer even. "I have changed," he said proudly, and from that
day on, he was a good and kind veterinarian, and he always had a special fondness for Poogles.
