Edna's Plight

I got so lonely, in my tower,
And I felt it was unfair.
There was no reason for Neopets
To avoid my humble lair.
"She's a witch! A witch!" they would but cry,
"We should just leave her be!"
So I was left at home with just a
Black cauldron for company.

"O, spiteful children! Why do you flee?"
I thought, curled up in shame.
My green skin, warts and spells had led
To a somewhat awful fame.
Neopets knew me for miles around,
From Kreuldor to Faerieland,
But though I was a legend I had
Not a friend to hold my hand.

As I pored over my potion -
Bubbling Amulet of Aisha Stretching -
I realised I was tired of how
Ingredients always needed fetching.
Things were getting grim and
my potions getting rare.
But I didn't want to leave my house,
For everyone would stare.
I pondered over lots of plans,
Such as shopping in disguise,
But one day I had a visit which
Brought shock and sweet surprise.

"H-H-Hello," a young Kougra said,
Quite nevvously, at my door.
"I've heard you have no potion parts...
Well, I can buy you more."
"Pardon?" I cried, sure I'd misheard,
Or that a trick was being played.
"But everyone thinks I'm evil -
Why are you offering aid?"

"Well... because you've never bothered us
I guessed the stories weren't true.
And because I think that this
Would be a lovely thing to do."
"Of course, of course, sweet thing!"
I yelled, and took him in a hug.
"Now... if you would be so kind...
I need a crushed Scarab bug."

True to his word, he did return
My item clutched in his paws.
I felt so happy! - it was plain
The fellow should have a reward,
So I handed him some Neopoints
And sent him on his merry way.
"Well, that is that", I mused,
But, my friends, the very next day
My Tower was simply crammed
With the Kougra's friends, all
Of whom wanted to lend a hand!

So this is how it came to be -
The start of Edna's Quest!
And, as lovely stories go,
It is one of the best!

Sonnet for the Yooyu

Players anxiously eye their goals;
The crowd collectively holds its breath.
Leathery skin weathered in folds,
The Yooyu clinches, knees to chest.

Haunches launch at whistleblast,
Feet fight to meet the ball;
A wet slap cracks on Yooyu back,
Now spinning to a muddy fall.

The goalie gulps and shifts her weight,
Suspiciously watching the fateful sphere.
She lunges left; it is too late.
A crowd erupts in cheer.

Now only our sympathies can choose:
Did the Yooyu win or lose?

The Lady of the Woods
