GREY DAY SPECIAL

Inspiration In Grey
By Rhiannonleigh1979

Tears like falling dew surround
a storm-colored Aisha.
Grey is more than just a color;
it paints laughter with tragedy,
love with melancholy,
and even the sweetest song
bruises the heart like a requiem.

Liandara is grateful for rain, loves
it because it feels like home.
Raindrops comfort and console her,
as even the clouds open up
in empathy, blue storms mourning
with an ageless rhythm, a composition
of sadness, loss, and tears.

Being Grey is knowing the sadness
that hides in the corners; weeping
shadows that others overlook,
a Grey pet embraces and names
as her own. It's a lonely pastime,
cultivating heartache day after day.
Liandara grows it well.

Some ask why we paint them Grey;
why allow this eternal grief?
Grey is dreamy-sad and lost,
why not paint them something bright?
Pink would be more cheerful, true;
but Grey is the color of poets,
longing hearts, and thunderclaps.

This is who they really are,
This is who Liandara is.
I would not deny my dreamer
pet, my aching bard, my shadowchaser,
the color inside her heart.
Some can find happiness in grief.
Liandara finds inspiration in Grey.

Old Names Be Forgotten
By Dreamhazer

Impotent, grey -- as sweet as silky songs
Of sleep. Ah, nameless one of shredded wings
Your name shall come -- a melody of things
All nat'ral: sea and sky and earth and strong.

Once Baelia, but not again. Forget things
With pain. It once your lovely prison was
Now take a new agnomen as your gauze
To heal your wounds. Alas! Reborn in Spring!

And, oh! Some lovely sound will name your face,
Exotic, fresh, and full of rolling L's
With power so to make the ocean swell:
Delib'rate speech at slow and thoughtful pace.

Baelia -- faerie, hear your old name well
But not again! It is time to seek new
And awesome powers you are truly due --
For you are free of Jennumara's spell.

Grey Tide
By Pyrosquirrelx

Upon the shining shores of the world
Where passers-by are flitting fish
The tides of time pass day by day
And no one hears my wish.

I, of the grey tide, the wash of
The saddened and the sorrowed
I, of the silent sea, the broken flood
Where we gloomily drift till 'morrow.

Droopy eyes and dulled silver
Our hard-born trademarks, worn
By us bravely, bitterly
Since the day that we were born.

We, of the grey tide, the stream of
Crushed spirits and downtrodden eye
We, of the dismal waves, the halted rush
'Neath our raindrop-painted sky.

Not rainbow Koi nor brilliant Lutari
Our lives are monochrome
A stormy cloud our heads and hearts
The depths of depression our home.

We, of the grey tide, the torrent of
Slow-moving, sinking crests
We of the drab and dreary waters
Where the burden of life rests.

And 'til the day the grey tide rises
And sweeps o'er the land
We sleep, we weep, in anonymity
And wish for a place upon that golden sand.

She Sulks in Beauty:
An Ode to the Grey Eyrie

By Peristalsis

She sulks in beauty, like the rose
That wilts in Neovia's autumn streets;
Yes, all that's best of wings and toes
Meet in her feathers and her feet:
Though drab, and all her gestures slow,
You'll never see colors quite so sweet.
A glinting eye, a bouncing gait
Would strip her of her abject charm
Which droops across her downcast face,
And dares not hint of thoughts so warm
That lurk beneath her icy gaze.

And on that beak, and o'er those ears,
A languid frown that ne'er retreats,
No mocking smile, but honest tears
Will fall upon her ashen cheek
To chide those cruel and clownish peers
Who'd dare to call the steadfast weak.

Hidden Beauty
(A Grey Neopet's Manifesto)

By Sand_rose

All across Neopia, scattered far and wide
Are scenes of sad grey Neopets
Who slump and mope and cry
Monochrome demeanors, heaving hopeless sighs
Listless lonely heartsick things
With brooding bloodshot eyes

Why can't we be happy?
Why can't we smile too?
In such a wide and sunny world
With oh so much to do
We may forget that grey skies
Thick with cloudy gloom
Bring rain that makes so many fields
Of vibrant flowers bloom

We may forget that shadows
Though they make a dreary sight
So oppressive and monotonous
Still prove to us that there is light

And so I ask, grey pets, rejoice
And join me on this day
To raise our hands and celebrate
The glory of the color grey
