Ode to Vandagyres

Rumours spread for years, and years,
from Neopets’s mouths to ears
About an undiscovered species
For a whole week TNT gave us clues
and, at the end, the big piece of news!
The Vandagyre species was revealed;
And before them everyone kneeled.
These cuties have fluffy ears, very big eyes,
and a beak; they look like owls in disguise.
This glorious discovery happened in Y15,
And they literally conquered the scene!
At the beginning they were hard to attire,
But now they can wear everything you desire!
Comfortable, casual clothes for males
and elegant, refined dresses for females.
There are even Vandagyre’s costumes
So that every pet can have plumes!
If you happen to climb high mountains
You may chance upon wild, feral ones,
Who love to fly fast, or tending gardens,
Acting like they don’t have any burdens.
Just smile, and appreciate their freedom,
Their way of living is for sure awesome!

A standstill in the darkness,
Then the whirl of winding talons and beak
Transform from cobalt to black— navy blurs

Move silently from tree to tree.
If I was a coward, I would feel no trepidation
Completely unaware of my own surveillance. 

There is no giveaway.
No crunching bark or misplaced claw betray
The stealthy Vandagyres’ presence or place.

Allegedly, there’s a team:
A squad of Vandagyres who patrol the streets,
Unseen defenders of Neopia’s nighttime scene.

They quickly descend upon the ne’er-do-wells,
Revealing their operation at the moment’s grace.
Suspects are apprehended, crimes prevented
By the swift aviators new to this space.

A hushed hoot may have raised suspicion,
Yet silence was my only accomplice en route
To the National Neopian.

I fumble with the Neopoint bags I had to fill—
I feel my way to the Bank’s backdoors,
But before I can unlock it—

Three shurikens pin my bags to the wall,
As three Vandagyres swoop in like arrows:
Decisive and precise. 

Something hauls me through the night,
Like darts thrown with blind expertise.

They hail from the tall mountain tops.
Only discovered recently after being,
Hidden away for many millennia.

The view is different from way up here,
Something not many get to see.
They never hesitate in showing off their aerial skills,
As they swoop back and forth in glee.

Famous now throughout as fast fliers,
Vandagyres zoom from peak to peak,
Soaring high and low and all over the land,
Leading with a pointed beak.

Almost like giant Oukins,
They’re a feathery creature,
Especially by the ears and cheeks.
But their fan-like tail is their best feature.

Gentle by nature and kind indeed,
They make the best of friends,
Gardening, chilling, having a good time,
And tea parties on the weekend.

Their high mountain homeland is beautiful no doubt,
And they do return every so often,
But Neopia is now where they call home,
Though their origins never forgotten.
