KAU DAY SPECIAL

Kau Day Heroes
By Indulgences

The Kau is gentle, sweet to all,
But fierce in times of trial and doubt.
It may seem kind, benevolent,
But docile? No! It packs some clout.

Its horns are sturdy fighting tools.
Its hooves are filed and quick to hurt.
In battle, Kaus defend a lot,
But their remarks are sharp and curt!

Kauvara is a famous Kau
Of starry hue and sparkling eyes
Who sells off potions magical
To shoppers who restock their buys.

Kalora is quite famous too.
She plays in Cheat! and dresses cool.
Miss Stryke is known, but not quite famed.
She teaches in the Neoschool.

There's Leera Heggle, Goalkeeper,
A leading member of his team.
The Lost Desert is surely proud
To share his eager Yooyu steam.

The Kau, it comes in 21st
In Neo popularity.
It numbers 4.5 million
And show no signs of waning, see?

So train your Kau this fine Kau Day
And love its varied legacy.
The Kau is warrior, friend, and foe,
And you can train your Kau for free!

Kauvara's Dream
By Kattrish

There was, once upon a time,
a Kau with dreams so grand.
She longed to be a magician
with the power at her command.

She wanted to be free,
to escape traditions old
which say that she'll inherit
a shop where magic is sold.

But she, Kauvara, brimming with hope
longed for the magic at hand
and the knowledge of magicians far,
yet no one would understand!

Her father finally gave in
and sent her on her way
to the Tower of the Faerie of Light
to learn magic day by day.

At last! There she was,
learning all the charms and tricks!
Yet her dream was short-lived
for trouble came in quick.

Old owner of the magic shop
had vanished in thin air
after some discovered
that all false were his wares.

Kauvara, whose dreams were lost,
was forced to come back
to claim the inheritance she didn't want:
a shabby magic shack.

Yet though she had lost the dream
of excitement, wonder, and fun,
she held on to her one belief:
the adventure had only begun.

Allita's Voyage
By Lily2b18

Making my way from place to place,
Helping my sister to save her face,
Hoping my vessel will have enough space,
I voyage to Roo, yo ho.
Arbiter Berries are what I seek,
To help with my sister's potion unique.
Just hope that my vessel won't spring a leak,
I voyage to Roo, yo ho.

My name is Allita, I'm not that well known,
What I do normally isn't quite shown.
But not once has a trip of mine been postponed,
As I voyaged to Roo, yo ho.
Returning with loot is a wonderful thing,
The joy of my sister makes me want to sing.
It's all for the berries, which I always bring,
From my voyage to Roo. Yo ho!

Sky-whirl
By Larkspurlane

The birth hour of dawn accompanied
By wings that worship the sun --
No shadow across them as they
Flutter, twin keys to sky-paths
As yet untrod:
Burnished gold, kindling orange,
And fleeting pink, tender and intense --
Hers to wander, and hers to love
In the sacred hour before Neopia
Has opened its dream-filled eyes.

In vain would others mimic
Her movement with some
Poor rhythmic attempt,
Clumsy wing-beats that never replicate
Her whispering dawn-flight,
The soft tones in quickening light,
Petals of an unimagined flower.

A cadence clear and deep pulls her
In a sky as thick with dawn
As the sunlit sea,
Beauty in beauty,
Glorious Kau-faerie,
And there --
She is flown.

The Forlorn Kau Guard of Phorofor
By Soaringeagle25

This Kau found his post
As the esteemed guard of Phorofor,
A position he could boast.
A stern sentry he still is today,
Though decades have passed away.

His colour is but faded and gone,
Leaving the insubstantial haze
Of the ghostly dead, bodily gone
Leaving nothing but the piercing gaze
And the form that stands tall and strong
As time marches forward long.

His spear has long shown its age
A trusty but archaic ancient relic
That for aeons has stopped the shifty
With a sharp and meaningful prick.
This spear is the Kau's pride;
It has always been by his side.

Though he is not among the living
He finds himself misunderstood,
Not all the dead have come to haunt
Or drain the lifeblood from the good.
Guarding eternally, he likes a chat
For he gets lonely if he doesn't have that!

Kau's Guide to Better Grazing
By Anjie

A small Kau once was heard to say,
"The same old grass I eat each day!"
Weary of the common green,
He sought a new and fresher scene.
Across the lake in yonder field,
Such emerald blades did one glance yield.
If small hooves could just make the leap,
A tasty feast this Kau may reap.

And yet the jump seemed far away,
Yet there he wandered every day.
To gaze upon the distant grass,
Just beyond his reach, alas!
Kaus aren't the best at swimming far,
They're not the divers Flotsams are.
Dare he make that final leap?
The stream was wide, bank was steep.

No longer could Kau bear the ache,
This jump was one he HAD to make.
He gathered every ounce of nerve,
The bravery held in reserve.
With running leap and mighty jump,
He flew then landed with a thump.
A glance around, he made the leap!
Now treats were there for him to reap.

What folly, though, what rash despair!
He gazed around, bewildered there.
Up close the blades of grass did seem,
No brighter than across the stream.
A taste confirmed they were the same,
"Not better!" did the Kau proclaim.
Grass is the same, I must confide,
Not greener on the other side.

Come With Me, Beloved Kaus
By Mamasimios

Come walk with me in meadows green,
My beloved spotted Kau.
We'll play and graze away the day
For all I need is the air I breathe,
My heart that beats, and thou.

Come swim with me beneath the seas,
My beloved Maraquan Kau.
We'll explore your home beneath the foam,
For all I need is the air I breathe,
My heart that beats, and thou.

Come fly with me in skies serene,
My beloved Faerie Kau.
Like birds we'll sing upon the wing,
For all I need is the air I breathe,
My heart that beats, and thou.

Joyful time unfurls amongst this herd
Of varied and beloved Kaus.
Your lowing breeds the air I breathe,
Your pounding hooves, my own heartbeat,
Truly all I ever need is thou.

Come live with me in days carefree,
Just the fields and seas and thou.
You entertain me, even more sustain me,
You are the very air I breathe,
My heart that beats, you make me complete,
My dear, beloved Kaus.

Kalandra
By Rosabellk

Kalandra plays poker, and plays it quite well:
She's a bluffer and has nerves of steel.
Is her luck just skill, or from some kind of spell?
The mysterious Kau won't reveal

Just what is her secret, though many have asked
(Often right after they've lost);
Kalandra just answers, her face veiled and masked,
"I guess that my stars were just crossed."

She's lovely and wily; a dangerous mix.
You don't want to get in her way.
Just when you think you have seen all of her tricks,
The newest one blows you away.

A full house; two pairs; a straight; four of a kind.
She somehow continues to win.
When you play her, you haven't a chance to unwind
Or let down your guard; she'll just grin
And take swift advantage of your little slip.
She raises, then raises again.
She puts 200 Neopoints worth of her chips
On the table, her rounded domain.

You gulp and examine your cards: just a pair
Of lonely and sad little twos.
Sweat beads on your brow and you become aware
Of Kalandra's eyes looking at you.

You fold and drop your cards, sure you can't win
'Gainst Kalandra's hand. She, with a sigh,
Collects the pot and shows her cards with a grin.
Her hand? Just a lowly king high.

To Graze
By Symbolism

A Kau has two priorities in life:
to graze and to stare on
with these big brown eyes
that magnify longing.

I learned this last winter
when the fields were barren and hard.
The pasture forgot to prepare a banquet,
the dandelions were losing themselves
and falling to the season's chill,
one white feathery soul after another.
They formed galaxies in midair,
swirled and mingled about
until every winter day felt like
a starry summer night.
I looked to one of the dandelion galaxies,
my gaze gone wide and watery with hunger,
and I wished for the season of eating
to come again.

A Kau has two major ambitions:
to romp outside the confines of the pasture
and to learn what it means to long contently.
When spring came and the pasture
laid down some delectable blossoms
from the thawing earth
hoping they'd go red and crispy in the sun,
I saw the first clear sky in many moons,
many crescents, and fulls, and quarters,
many craters filled to the brim
with pallid rock and Grundo dwelling places,
Kreludor all ready to pass Neopia
like a foreign silver soul
that only this motherly universe
can raise.

The constellations connected themselves.
The Dreamer was dozing in her galaxy.
She stayed asleep until morning,
and then slowly drifted away.
She looked happy in her cradle of clouds,
and reminded me that stars do not show
during the day in the season of eating
when the fields are ripe and the Weewoos
are cooing like dinner bells.

When there's enough to eat,
dandelions learn to keep themselves together
and let the sun work in its celestial kitchen
throughout the day.
They learn that a Kau has two priorities in life:
to graze and to keep those big, brown eyes
from overflowing with wishes.

The Kau Defender
By Iloenchen

Everyone has heard of Judge Hog.
Orig the Great is well known here.
But what about the Kau Defender?
When does her name ever appear?

One of the very few female pets
Who are part of Neopia's Defenders,
She spends her days working for justice
And hunting down all those offenders.

Yellow Kau with long, orange tresses,
She is not afraid of anybody.
The Kau Defender will hunt down
All criminals, no matter how shoddy.

When an innocent has been hurt,
The Kau Defender comes to help.
She's there to console the poor pets
As with horror and pain they yelp.

Once she decided to execute justice
On a criminal, no matter who,
She will not rest until she finds them,
And they say to the world, 'Adieu.'

So if injustice has been done to you,
Judge Hog is not the only Defender.
The Kau Defender will help you as well
And fight the criminals till they surrender.

The Fortune Teller
By Icesmith

Gazing into ball, alight,
The prophets speak so soft,
With widened eyes, a smile sincere.
The Kau raises her arms, aloft.
The tingle of excitement,
Lingers the room wide,
At the future seen so eloquently,
Her talent her single pride.

A great gypsy, to all she is known,
Sakhmet exhales with tension,
For her eyes flame with dignified hues,
Entangled with comprehension,
Her words the truth, the sooth her way,
All wait on her words, divine,
As the future is told to her ears only,
Her small tent her shrine.

Declining claims of fraud, she sighs,
Her hands lingering above the sphere,
Her nose pressed toward the misty vines,
The messages coming through clear,
Positive or aversive, none shall know,
For her lips are sealed with truth,
Her knowledge amazing all around,
From elderly right down to the youth.

And so the fortune teller raises tall,
Her smiles secretive and rich,
Yet no matter how many ask her ways,
To the prophets she will not snitch,
And so she sits alone and waits,
For the future she knows will unfold,
Whether battle or joy, all wait,
For the occurrences the prophets told.
