Brutes
by Flufflepuff

The sounds of distant clanging
And the splintering of wood
Are signs as sure as desert sun
The nearby neighborhood
Is where only the bravest train.
Hidden in the rock
Are growls and grunts and battle cries,
Where equal-matched swords lock.

A Skeith surveys those in his group
From his vantage point above.
His mustache turns up as he grins.
Surely his army'll prove
That iron hearts and claws of steel
Can trump all other strengths.
What good, against a club, are zombies,
Magic, or influence?

If taut and burly muscles grow,
Ne'er given a chance to wane,
A squad of brutes, they can impress
The Oracle again.
And when they demonstrate at last
Their power, tone, and skill,
She will, in turn, bestow her own
In ways no one else will.
With her blessing, they'll become
Much stronger than before,
But just the wisest in the squad
Will yet strive for more.

For being a Brute means journeying --
Transcending what's in store.

Ode To Omelette
by Swordlilly

Upon the plain thou layest soft and warm,
Thy glorious fragrance drawing one and all:
The hungry crowds from yonder Concert Hall,
The Chombies large and Blumaroos small.
Here they storm
In answer to thy appetizing call.

A restless line the would-be diners form;
Some stomp or fly, while others slowly crawl.
Prepared with sauces, veggies, fruits and all,
The line looks like a multi-coloured scrawl.
"Om nom-nom!"
Across the plain the munching sounds fall.

Thy name upon each happy Neopet's lips:
"What did you get?" "Chokato omelette!"
"I got my favourite cheese omelette!"
So many lives depend on omelette
That, shouldst thou leave,
We'll never be the same, omelette.

Ode To The Bakery
by Zomgmad

Eat a loafa bread a day,
That’s what the Breadmaster likes to say.
But I disagree, don’t you?
It’d be much better to eat two.

Or three or four, five, maybe six --
Chase ‘em down with some breadsticks.
Cookies, doughnuts, cakes and more,
The Breadmaster makes pastries galore.

Waffles topped with syrup and butter --
Double portions, don’t tell your mother.
Afterward, head to the island of Roo,
The Shoyru there will get you a brew.

Get a sandwich piled high
Or a heaping meatless pie.
He’s got cupcakes and muffins, too.
Want a custom order? There’s a queue.

Gooey icing on a cinnamon roll...
All the carbs take a toll.
But I just don’t care, you see --
For I love the Bakery.

Neopets Day
by May_berry

Wake up! It’s a snow day:
Ice lies upon the ground.
Crystallized wind bites my nose,
And though I barely feel my toes,
My mood will not go grey.

“It’s too powdery to sleigh
And dangerous branches lie around.
You can’t exactly play outside.”
Sister and I smile wide,
All too happy to obey.

We have somewhere to be today,
A sort of secret place we’ve found.
From the screen our haven calls,
To guilds, to games, to shopping malls,
We’d rather be here anyway.

Beach volleyball melts ice away.
I’m Mystery Island bound!
Or maybe I’ll buy a coat to wear,
Or snuggle up with Babaa Care
And tea from Grundo’s Café!

Neopia, Neopia, keeps grey days at bay.
Who could cry over frozen ground
In a world where omelettes are free?
Where you can visit space and sea
In just one shopping spree?
I’ll not be bored today.

“Snow Day” was the real name,
But “Neopets Day” is what it became.

The Darkest Faerie's Stone Confessions
by Affluentflaw

Deep beneath the ocean,
trapped as solid stone.
You locked me with an amulet
and stripped me of my throne.
If my magic doesn't scare you,
then you are but a fool.
Give me the respect I need
or I'll surely lose my cool.

Shattered towers, purple blasts,
tortured spirits, enemies now
stone works of art.
Crude dark powers consumed
my soul.
But now? Now...
I fall...

I haven't always been this way,
you know, I was a founder.
Compassionate, brave, and kind --
these traits weren't just confounders.
Others say I'm dark and cruel.
I don't deserve redemption
'cause, after all these curses laid,
I've lost my name for gumption.

Everyone seems to ignore the fact
that I saved the king.
No one knows that I'm the one
who made Altador sing.
Yes, I may have drifted --
no, I'm no longer sweet.
But for once, just for once.
Glory... affection... pride...
That would be a treat.
