The Unlucky Zafara

Renowned across lands far and near
With their swishing tails and great, long ears
Zafaras are famous for their adventurous hearts
And for bringing good luck to ones living in all parts.

But this a tale of one not quite like the rest,
At games of luck and chance she was far from the best;
Dice-a-Roo and Black Pawkeet Slots were oh such a bane.
Loss after loss raising the hackles on her mane.

One day this determined young Zafara set off for a fix.
She’d go on a quest like her hero, the great Nyx.
Across Neopia seeking answers from the wise,
She’d seek out Neopets of all species, shapes, and size.

She bid farewell to her beloved family and friends
And set off not to return until journey’s end.
Traveling through Meridell’s farms and the clouds of Faerieland, 
Across spooky, eerie woods and scorching hot desert sand-

She questioned kings, queens, and heroes of old,
So cunning, and wise, and quite so bold.
They bragged of their noble births, vast fortunes, big deeds.
In their great shadows she felt insignificant, quite small indeed.

She questioned and questioned and many moons passed. 
She felt none the wiser and, defeated, turned home at last.
But on her way, she came across a fellow Zafara:
Blue fur, round glasses, why this was sweet, helpful Sarah.

“Sit down young child: there is much for you to learn.
For fortune, fame, and favour you do ardently yearn,
But on your journey to reclaim luck you’ve been ridden,
It’s true meaning has remained quite hidden.” 

“You see, luck isn’t riches; luck isn’t a game.
It’s not slot machines or dice or even alluring fame.
Luck is knowing the true treasure you’ve got, 
Is the love of family and friends who care a whole lot.”

“Don’t spend your days measuring and comparing;
You have love, community, and a heart full of caring.
Go now, take your leave, and return to those you hold dear.
You never lacked luck; there was nothing ever to fear.”

Now off on her way, down Neopia Central’s winding streets,
Still daydreaming of stories she’d been told of grand and noble feats,
Our young Zafara saw a shiny coin- a wayward traveller's loss.
She plucked it up, polished it, and into the air gave it a quick toss.

Heads? Tails? What was the lucky call? 
She clutched it, unrevealed in her paw so very small,
And with a smile on her face she dropped it without peeking,
Into a Charity Corner box for those in need and seeking.

Now finally her home came into view;
She saw the faces of loved ones she well knew.
She picked up speed, her feet moving fast,
For our unlucky Zafara felt quite lucky at last.

The Zafara Day Parade

Neopets from all around come celebrate,
A Zafara Day Parade? Why, that sounds just great!
There’s singing & dancing & joy in the air,
Here come the floats! Look, over there!

The first float's arriving! Is that a big screen?
Holograms of Ace Zafara- the crowd is quite keen.
The young hero races, he wins in first place,
This float is a hit! A wonder from space!

On the next float sits Edna, a witch on her throne,
With mystical spells... best leave her alone.
Brewing & bubbling, the cauldron glows green,
The spookiest float Neopia has seen!

Another float has Kayla, the young prodigy,
Always busy with mixing some new remedy! 
In her starry blue robe, she twirls with delight,
This whimsical float's a dazzling sight!

On the last float is Chadly, who's flashing a grin!
When it comes to charisma... oh, where to begin? 
Neopia's Most Charming, he knows he has fans,
The crowd goes so wild- it was all in the plans!

The floats all march on, the parade at its end,
If only the hours in a day could extend!
The joy & the laughter will not fade away,
Of this wonderful & magical Zafara Day!

Going fast has always been my passion

Young me could not sit still for one minute

Windows fogged with something… toxic.
Bottles burble, kettles groan,
Nothing here is left alone.

Shelves climb high with jars and brews,
Labels crossed out; renamed, reused.
Green fur gleams under the brim of her hat,
Eyes blinking slowly; looking into the vat.

“Ingredients,” she snaps, with narrowed eyes,
“Pay attention. I won’t advise twice.”
Her ears twitch once at your silent dread,
Then she reads the list she keeps in her head:

Blue cheese. Bread that’s gone quite wrong.
Something jelly, and something strong.
A root that screams when peeled at night,
And, oh! Bring Negg Goo. A lot. Alright?

Don’t ask why. No, it’s vital, alright?
“It adds depth,” she says, with a shrug and a sigh,
“Magic’s expensive. Don’t argue. Go. Bye.”

The stew goes plop. The stew goes hiss.
She tastes, she scowls, she appears in bliss.
“Don’t you think, this is such a fun game?”
One rare item consumed by flame.

“Finally! It is complete,” Edna says with a snap,
“Here is your prize: a Glaring Eye Wrap!”

A Tattered Plushie’s Second Chance

Now tattered and torn

I pick her up
Cradle her in my arm

As she starts to purr

Edna the Witch

Hidden amongst the trees in the Haunted Woods,
lives a witch named Edna who very well could,
turn you into a toad or the like,
her demeanour is sure to give you a fright.

In the Witch’s Tower her potions bubble,
if you come knocking you may see yourself in trouble,
nonetheless she will greet you with a quest, 
collecting items for her is the test.

She cackles and taunts as she sends you on your way,
best hurry back if you want to see another day, 
sometimes she wants just one and sometimes three,
of these items for her potions, this time it’ll work you’ll see! 

They don’t always go right and have caused much disarray,
she even turned herself into a Zafara one fine day,
but this doesn’t stop her from trying once more,
as long as you get her the items she asked for before.

Burlap Zafara

The sad Zafara painted Burlap,
Started to feel like a mishap,
When he started to unwrap,
Leaving him an utterly dismal chap.

Under his tail there was a little gap,
An eye button had started to unsnap,
Stuffing came out of his kneecap,
And, feeling like a pile of fabric scrap,

He cried a little and took a nap.
Then he pulled himself up by the bootstraps,
And patched himself up in a snap,
Feeling right again with a clap!

Occasionally they look for a buddy
Someone who will help them study
Building knowledge is their only concern
After all, this Zafara loves to learn!

Just look at their years of dedication!

It's past Christmas but my Christmas Paint—

It reminds me of the Advent Calendar, which was—
