DRAIK DAY SPECIAL

Day of the Draik
By Lynx_child

A crimson explosion - the dawn has woken
The fiery orb writhes in the sky
And the first salutations have been spoken
To those who blink a sleepy eye
Light dribbles slowly over Neopia
The Neopets smile and raise their heads
And rouse their weary owners
From the comfort of their beds
In this blessed month of Gathering
Today is a day like no other.

But shivering in a darkened cavern
Lies a mass of coils and scales
With wings outstretched - a glimmering silver
To match the hue of clawlike nails
But beneath this implied armor
Lies a heart warm and kind
Wide eyes reflect the innocence
Of the smallest infant's mind

Stretching, exhausted crawls the Draik
Emerging from his shadowy lair
And he looks up at the rising sun
Blinking in its harsh red glare
He looks around to find them staring
Everyone's eyes seem to be on him
He meets the face of a good friend Blumaroo
And the chap's face breaks into a grin.

"Do you know what today is?"
The Blumaroo calls out,
And the Draik shakes his head no.
"Today is Draik Day,
So we threw you a party!
It's starting, hurry up, let's go!"

Captain Bloodhook
By Magdalena3

Many, many a year ago
Ol' Bloodhook ruled the sea
A pirate by nature
He was as ruthless as could be

'Til one fateful morning
He was lost amidst the storm
Plunged into the murky depths
Sinking, falling, broken, torn

But always true to nature
He found 'is way to shore
Too stubborn to die
He begged the fates for more

Little did he know that
His shipmates hid the treasure away
In case he did survive
And returned for it one day

When he found out what they'd done
He roared his curses to the sky
Made his way to the Black Pawkeet
With his rapier brandished high!

All his crew looked on
Paralyzed with fright
Never had they imagined
Death would come for them that night!

And when the fight was over
Despaired, he fell to his knees
His treasure was lost forever
On Krawk Island amongst
The sand dunes and trees

And now the Neopets come there
En masse, to try their luck
At finding Bloodhook's fortune
For his luck was up...

Escape From Meridell
By Zezetikicat

I have sat in this dungeon far too long,
No one sees that they were wrong.
"I'm innocent!" I plead,
Yet no one seems to help my need.

Then I see it bright and clear,
How did it get in here?
It's a key, shiny and gold,
Right in front of me in my castle hold.

I grasp my sword, and the key,
Then unlock the door, quietly.
I sneak around and up I fly,
To the first door, go I.

My trusty sword attacks the guard,
Then he lay on the floor, like a pile of lard.
I banged my head on the bonus block,
Only to get one point, and a headache.

Suddenly, I crashed into the spikes,
Oh no! There goes a life.
So I start again, flying onto ledges,
Then hiding, like I was behind a hedge.

I finally reach the door going to Level Three,
It took awhile... "Finally!"
I stumble across another protector,
I killed him, too...
Couldn't let him spoil my splendor.

So I trudged along the floors and spikes,
Flying here and there,
Finally I reached the last and final door,
Once I opened it, the rain just began to pour!

With one life left,
I had escaped, just like a theft.
I had finally gotten out of Meridell,
Oh boy, I did... I'd done it well!

Don't Eat The Eggs
By Jostlin79

One day, I found my way to Meridell.
Games kept me busy as the day passed.
After taking in all the sights to see,
I got tired, for the land was vast.

After all the walking, my feet were sore
I decided to head towards the shops.
My stomach started growling horribly,
so I picked up the pace through the crops.

Anticipating something yummy,
I started browsing shelf after shelf.
With stuff like stale bread and yucky stone soup,
I found nothing to satisfy myself.

The shopkeeper bounced out on his tail
and on the shelf he sat something red.
With all the other stuff to choose from,
this seemed to be the most filling spread.

I was shocked at the glares coming my way.
Rotten bread must not be their ideal food, either.
Surprised at the offers on my dinner,
I couldn't eat, or even get a breather.

"Please, I'm starving!
Can't I eat in peace?" I cried.
I heard gasps and the looks I got were shocking.
"You plan to eat a baby Draik?" one man asked.
By his look, I knew that he wasn't mocking.

A baby Draik?!? Now I was the one surprised.
"I wouldn't eat a pet!" I replied in shock.
I thought I was buying some food from there,
How was I to know, they had babies in stock?

Draik Warrior
By Milorules

Standing at the castle gate
Patrolling to and fro
Pondering my nearing fate
When Meridell developes a foe

It isn't always easy being
A Meridell warrior Draik
When Neopians are all fleeing
I must stand and never fake

Even when things get scary
Turned around, stuck in a sack
I must always endure to carry
Meridell's safety on my back

When King Skarl is hidden away
And everyone has run to flee
I must fight the enemy and stay
In danger's way, but I have the key

I may look small and defenseless
I have some tricks under my hat
A magic sword that will never miss
And an enemy I will turn flat

Still, 'til that day I patrol
The castle gates stay secure
So I practice my fatal roll
Because I am a Draik warrior PURE!
