PTERI DAY SPECIAL

Rainbow Pteri on the Wing
By Larkspurlane

I leave behind the rain-drenched night
Of sorrow, of damp, of grey,
And look to the eastern gleam
Where a joy, an impulse, has taken flight.
I speak not of the proud sun
(So regular, consistent, and mundane)
But of a life rarer still, a creature
Of seven hues fused together
Which comes now over the horizon
In light-winged harmony:
I speak of you, Rainbow Pteri,
Sky-spectrum swift of flight!

Who could have imagined
A motion, a spirit so prismatic,
Of red, the dew-awakened rose,
Of orange and of yellow,
Midsummer magnificence,
Of blue, the day-bright sky,
Of green, wet grass, twinkling in half-light,
Of indigo, the dusken hush,
Of violet, the midnight hour's
Sweet star-brightened languor --
Who could have imagined
That light's colourful play in misty vales,
Or after rain, in dewdrops,
Or in pale-shining ice,
Could be quickened thus into such glorious life?

My heart is full, for your flight brings gladness,
Sparkle, shine, winged melody!
Live! Soar, rise, sing!
Spread your colours true,
Paint the sky with your rainbow wing,
A bright, musical caress,
For the world, Rainbow Pteri, the world
Is your wide wide canvas!

The Baby Pteri
By Chaenda

She is inside a safe world,
Which she wouldn't want to leave,
Away from the comforts of her egg shell,
Since one day, she might start to grieve.

Her eyes can see only the dark,
She couldn't really feel her wings,
Her beak begins to peck herself out,
She decided to face what life brings.

The egg shell starts to crack open,
The bright sunlight would blind her eyes,
She would blink, and she would get used,
And she'd admire the beautiful skies.

She fought on and continued to peck,
And soon, she was finally free,
She didn't regret leaving her place,
Since there was so much left to see.

Wings of Metal
By Anjie

Flawless is the timing set,
As quickly shall he lurch.
Back and forth in perfect sync,
Claws coiled 'round his perch.

Precision timing, no mistake,
He does not miss a beat.
Beat with grinding gears doth part,
Releasing programmed 'Tweet!'

Whirring wheels, the wings do span,
Like clockwork does head turn.
Perch swings, timing does not shift,
Back, forth, back, return.

Flickered light on metal wings,
Provides unearthly sheen.
Gaze takes in surroundings quick,
It's scanning, vibrant green.

Data formed, the lights do drop,
The gaze dims soft once more.
Then with the click of grinding gears,
Toward the sky he'll soar.

No rustling of soft feathers here,
It's wind and metal sheath.
Robot Pteri, soaring high,
Observing those beneath.

Perching, sunlight lights his form,
The metal, red and brown.
Having seen what must be done,
Eyes close, he powers down.

Pteri Race
By _Razcalz_

Midday sun beams o'er the hill,
This merry Pteri Day.
Pteris of a thousand hues,
Indeed, a fine display.
Stalks of grass dance in the breeze,
Picnics all in place.
Neopians gather here to watch,
The annual Pteri race.

Pteris lined at top of hill,
Where race will soon begin.
Fly to bottom they will do,
The one who's first shall win.
Feathers twitching, wings are spread,
They aim for goal below.
Racers poised to start the flight...
"Ready, set, go!"

Faerie Pteri zooms ahead,
Gorgeous feathers sway.
Speckled one flaps hard and swift,
Allowing no delay.
Ghost likewise, as well as pink,
They fly with speed, control.
Frantic wings beat ceaselessly,
Each heading for the goal.

Pteri racers reach hill's end,
Crossing line, beaks gleam.
"Who was first?" they all ask,
None of them, it seems.
Already one Pteri's there,
Waiting, sitting still.
Baby Pteri, in its egg,
Long since rolled down the hill.

Clutch Billaban -- Pteri in Goal
By Stariell

The Yooyuball match is under way,
With Roo Island's finest team in play.
Though the game is not without a hitch,
Team Shenkuu chase them up the pitch.

One player has come up to the fore,
Lilo Blumario, with a levelling score.
Now the game's most vital role,
Lies with the green Pteri in goal.

Clutch Billaban! Roo Island's pride,
Stops the ball and sends it wide.
Nothing gets past him, he'll say,
When Roo Island wins the day.

At the edge of goal, with wings out wide,
He guards his spot from side to side.
Unmatched in either wit or speed,
The greatest goalie a team could need.

Toward the net the ball comes flying,
Clutch reaches up his padded wing,
And gives Roo Island one more chance,
To score the points needed to advance.

The team comes through, a goal is scored,
Roo Island's lead goes up on the board.
The crowd kicks up a deafening roar,
One point and Shenkuu could tie the score.

Just let them try; with Clutch on guard,
All Shenkuu's last minute hopes are barred.
Another save before the whistle blows,
The final win to Roo Island goes.

Teamwork and effort lead to victory,
Helped by one talented Pteri.
Because if he can't do it, no one can,
Three cheers for Clutch Billaban!
