Gnomes - What About Them? by da_funky_camel | |
Gnome madness has been sweeping Neopia since the day they arrived. It's like
the time when Usukis first came out. Everybody has to get them all, and people are willing
to do anything just to get their hands on a Techo or Wocky-shaped piece of plaster,
or, rather, GIF file. And what for? To display
it in a garden. I've seen Techo and Wocky Gnomes selling for up to 250,000 NP.
Would you rather have a Techo Gnome or a Wand of Ultranova? Just something to
think about.
When Usukis first came out, people where buying them like mad and a certain
Usuki would sell for up to 100,000 NP. Then, when all the excitement died down,
the value dropped. What happened after a month or so? You could buy that same
Usuki for a fraction of the price. That's going to happen with gnomes just as
it happened with the Christmas Paint Brush. And you probably won't feel so good
when you look for a Techo Gnome on the Shop Wizard, and see that item you paid
100,000 NP for is selling for 1,000 NP (this is months later of course). And
with the gnomes still being released, they'll end up about as valuable as the
formerly rare Advent Calendar prizes. It's just something to think about.
It's happened to me with items such as Spooky Food, Map Pieces, and Codestones.
It's gonna happen to everyone else if they keep paying good money for a little
figure that does nothing but sit there and look pretty.
Now if they made Gnomes into currency... There's a different story. What about
Dubloons? With the opening of the Golden Dubloon, prices of Dubloons skyrocketed.
One Dubloon Coins went from 1,000 to 2,500 in 10 seconds.
I could be wrong. With NeoHome gardens coming out, the common Scorchio Gnome
may go from 5,000 to 20,000 once it's been retired.
But looking at it from my point of view, I see prices dropping and the poverty
line rising. My advice is to sell the gnomes while you can, because people are
going to stop wanting them mighty fast, especially after the gardens have been
around for a little while.
Now you're probably sitting there saying "You're only saying this because
you didn't get any gnomes." That's not true. I have a Scorchio Gnome which I
got from a sponsor. I signed up for it when they first came out because, like
everyone else, I wanted one. I loved my gnome, I cherished it, and then I saw
the price of the Scorchio Gnome drop from 30,000 to 5,000. And I asked myself
why I'd gotten one, and it came to me that it was nothing more than a decoration.
Other expensive items, such as the Wand of Ultranova or Green Scorchstone,
are expensive because they're useful. I had a Wand of Ultranova once, and I
could beat the Flaming Meerca with my level 3 pet. But what can you do with
a gnome? Hit the opponent on the head with it in the Battledome? Eat it? Play
with it? No. All you can do is look at it. Yet people pay over 100,000 NP just
for a Techo in a yellow Santa Claus outfit. If I had that kind of money, I'd
spend it on something useful, or maybe donate it to my guild or put it in the
bank. But a Techo Gnome? Come on! Again, just think about it
If you have any comments, please Neomail them to me. Remember, gnome-body
loves you like your pet does. Good-bye all! |
