When Pet Giving Goes Wrong

by taipeiss

FIRE FAERIE VOLCANO - It's happened so many times before. You have decided to give your pet to another Neopian, for various reasons, and now you have it all planned out. You'll put the pet in, and they'll take it out. Or maybe it's vice versa.

But then the unexpected happens. "This pet already has an owner and is quite happy." You gape at the screen. It's gone.

So what happens next? Well, you can give up and let it go. Or you can contact the person, explain the situation, and hope they'll give the pet back.

When you're the one who missed out on the pet, you might feel like being blunt and rude with the person who got her/him. After all, it was supposed to be your pet! But what you should do is be polite about it. It is no one's fault, except maybe your computer's for being slow. ;) Calmly state the situation and your request, and they might just listen.

On the other hand, they might rebel. You might get back a reply that is absolutely rude. Maybe the person is nice, but will keep the pet. In a recent situation, the person didn't even respond to my Neomail. If that happens, then try to let go. Unless this pet meant the absolute world to you, it'll be okay. "What if it won't?!" you demand. Well, in that case, you are way too obsessed. Go outside. Outside is that thing with air and sunlight, in case you forgot.

Maybe you're the one who picked up the pet. Why should you let it go? It's cute, strong, and has a nice Petpet. Then you get the Neomail, and you think, "Hey, your loss." But stop and think for a second here. If you get Neomails from more than one person, it is likely that it was a planned event and not just some weirdo who wants the pet. If you can find it in your heart to be a kind and honest Neopian, give the pet back. If you like the pet too much, explain your situation with the others and see if you can work it out.

Either way, you should respond to the Neomails. It would be rude not to. And when you do respond, be nice about it. Then again, if they were rude in the first place, then I wouldn't think you would have to be all buddy buddy with them. But don't be rude back. You don't wanna sink to their level.

So before you start the process, know that there are some risks when it comes to the Adoption Agency. Maybe Neopets will let you trade directly later on. But for now, be careful, and considerate of others. You aren't the only Neopian out there, and, no, they didn't make Neopets just for you. Well, if it makes you feel better....
