This, pretty much, is a survival guide containing 14 different handy little
tips & rules that I always use. And if you read it, you never know, you might
actually learn something.
1. When using the Shop Wizard, never buy anything from the first search
result unless you're absolutely sure that you're getting a good deal. Once I
was looking for some Bubble Gum, and the first search result showed that the
cheapest shop sold it for 800 NP. The second search result showed the cheapest
shop sold it for 500 NP, and the third search result showed the cheapest shop
sold it for 300 NP. A saving of 500 NP! See my point?
2. If you need to create another window, just press ctrl+n and a window
identical to your active window will pop up. I always create a window for the
Shop Wizard whenever I do a Kitchen Quest or get a job at the Employment Agency.
(This might not work on your Internet program however).
3. DO NOT do Brain Tree Quests if it requires you to get a ridiculously
expensive item like Gummi Worms or Chocolate-Chip jack-o'-lantern Cookies, and
you have less than 20,000 NP, as Brain Tree Quests are rarely worth it. You
will only bring financial ruin upon yourself. I only do Brain Tree Quests if
the items I have to get are not too expensive. I have never done a Brain Tree
Quest that was worth it, except for the time when he gave me an Attack Fork.
4. The same rule applies to Kitchen Quests, Snow Faerie Quests and
Edna the Witch's Quests. However, I'm more willing to spend a little more NP
on Kitchen Quests and Snow Faerie Quests, as they are often worth it. I've gotten
a Rainbow Negg, a Staff of the Earth Faerie and a Morphing Potion from the Snow
Faerie before, and the Chef has improved my stats many times. The only worthwhile
things Edna the witch has ever given me were a Pumpkin Slice and a Blumaroo
Steak.
5. If you are a beginner in the Stock Market, don't think that if your
stock prices go down that you must immediately sell them, as there is a chance
they will go up again and you still might be able to make a profit. My philosophy
with the Stock Market is "Patience, Patience, and more Patience".
6. Always price your items using the Shop Wizard, otherwise you're
prone to getting ripped off. Some items' estimated values are way below what
you could sell them for. Exactly the opposite can also occur. If you want your
items to sell a little quicker, price it a few NP below the Shop Wizard price.
7. If you see an item in someone's shop that's priced ridiculously
low, buy it! This method has gotten me two Main codestones for only 50 NP each.
If you have no use for the item, search the Shop Wizard and sell it for it's
proper price. Be warned though, don't buy if you're not sure if it's cheap.
I've lost quite a few NP on impulse buying. 8. If you do happen to see an item
that's priced ridiculously low, do NOT, under any circumstances, send them nasty
Neomails saying how stupid they were for pricing an item so low, as they're
likely to report you to the NeoPet staff. Besides, it's just not nice.
9. Do NOT beg from other NeoPet users, as this annoys and pesters people,
as well as making you look extremely pathetic. If you really need the NP, earn
it, just like other every other hardworking Neopian. If your account got hacked,
ask for a bit of financial help from a good friend, and don't drain their account
of all the NP they have.
10. Take care when naming your pets, as you might regret the name later.
I agree wholeheartedly with chickenpurse's
and ohjoy49's
articles on the matter. Don't abandon your pet just because their name is misspelt,
as it's just plain wrong. If you're going to abandon your pet just because there's
something wrong with his/her name, you shouldn't have created him/her in the
first place.
11. Like to battle? Chat to other NeoPets users and read the Neopian
Times to find out what's the best battle strategy for you. Check out the Battlepedia
for the attacking and defensive properties of any weapon under the rarity level
of 100. When buying a weapon, never assume that just because it's expensive
that it attacks and defends well. Sometimes you do get what you pay for, but
often the item is expensive because of the rarity level. One of the best weapons
I know of, both in cost and attacking power, is the Improved Lightning Beam.
Bottled Snows (i.e Fire Snow, Dirty Snow etc.) also attack and defend well for
a reasonable price.
12. If you see a shop that's running a competition that involves you
buying overpriced items, don't participate, because believe it or not, there
are some VERY nasty Neopians out there just waiting to cheat you of your hard
earned NP. Don't worry about it if the competition is being run by a trustworthy
friend. Also, always be wary of suspicious people asking you for your password,
as there are often nasty scams going round the site.
13. Want to fill those empty shelves in your trophy cabinet? Have a
go at the current Better Than You, or if you've got a lot of time on your hands,
try to beat Punchbag Bob. Cheat! is a terrific way to obtain a trophy, not to
mention the NP and the Battlecards that you get with each round. Why not enter
the Beauty Contest, and ask your guild for some votes. Equally as good are the
Pet Spotlight and Site Spotlight Competitions. Feeling creative? Why not check
out the Storytelling Competition or Poem Competition? Mystery Pic & Lenny Conundrum
are both good competitions too. Heck, why not write an article for the Neopian
Times? Have a lot of NP on your hands? Well, you could either give it to me,
or you could buy some rare foods or some books to win a Gourmet Club Trophy
or the prestigious Neopian Book Award.
14. Bookmark the some pages on NeoPets, such as Snow Faerie Quests,
Brain Tree, Tombola, Coltzan's Shrine & Wheel of Excitement. This way you'll
always have these pages handy. Well I hope these tips have made your days in
Neopia just that little bit easier. This is journalist Bluescorchio104, signing
off.
No NeoPets were hurt in the making of this article.
