In my relatively short time on NeoPets I've seen more than my share of poorly
named pets. A typical example is a beautifully painted pet, with an IQ that
even Einstein would be proud of and Battledome status that would make the Techo
Master's jaw drop has just one teensy-weensy fault... its name is pocketed with
unsightly underscores and surrounded by a slew of meaningless numbers. Now that
is simply a shame. Not only are those kind of names hard to remember, they just
don't sound right. I mean, "Oh joye029_234xek_yo, please come down for dinner!"...You
know what I mean? I know that some of you aren't as prissy as I am about names,
and some of you probably don't care for it at all(in that case, don't keep reading,
you'll just bore yourself out). But I'm sure most of you'll prefer to have a
unique name for your pet. So here's my (hopefully) foolproof plan for giving
your pet the perfect name.
First things first: NEVER, EVER leave the name to the last nanosecond. The
oh-my-gosh-I-have-to-think-one-up-NOW panic can cost you (I rushed on my username
and look at what I ended up with...). Plan ahead, before you even click on the
"Create-a-Pet" button. Think it through, maybe you'd like a name that has a
hidden meaning, to match your future pride and joy's personality/looks, or perhaps
one that simply sounds nice, at least to your ears:). Don't be afraid to go
into other languages, French, Hindu, Chinese, Spanish... whatever you like.
When you have a name that you know you'll be proud of, check it out! Type it
up on the search bar and see if it's taken or not. Don't get lazy and skip this
step! It takes around 2 seconds and will save you time later. If the name's
free, then GREAT! If it isn't, then it's not the end of the world. You can either
think up a brand-new one, or give the old name's spelling a few exotic tweaks
here and there. Replacing Is with Ys, Us with OOs,
Ss with Zs and vice versa works beautifully.
Now that you have a unique name, hurry up and claim it! With all the people
playing NeoPets now, there's no telling if there's a guy on the other side of
the Pacific Ocean who's toying with the idea of creating a pet with the same
name that you just thought up (yes, even THAT one.). So don't waste any time,
create and name your pet as soon as possible to cut down on the risk of someone
taking the name before you do.
So... you've got a pet with a one-of-a-kind name that you simply love. GREAT
JOB! Give yourself a good pat on the back, you deserve it. The name is the only
thing about your pet that you can't change. Colour, species, status, intelligence,
even gender can be changed, provided, of course, that you have enough money
(rich people get all the fun *pouts*). But a good name is priceless. So now
you see why I wasted so much breath on just naming your pet?
A few more words before I go and spare you from nodding off: Please don't
create a pet just for the fun of it, no matter how cute or popular it is. A
pet is a pet is a pet. And every single one of them deserves to be taken
care of and live their life to the fullest. If you can't afford to have another
pet, then don't! Don't go around creating pets if you're not going to care for
them! The pound already has more than enough abandoned pets inside. So don't
