No, this isn't a cheating guide! :) This is just a list of some things that
might help your life in Neopia be a little bit easier. Some of these may be
obvious, but it's my hope that everyone finds something they can use in the
following tips and tricks list.
1. If you're pricing lots of items for your shop, don't waste time going
back and forth from your stock to the Wizard. Type in the names of all the items
into WordPad or another word processor, go to the Wizard, search, and type in
the price to WordPad as you go. Then go back to your stock and put the prices
in.
2. If you use Internet Explorer and you come across a shop with lots
and lots of items, but you don't feel like scrolling to find the item you want,
go to Edit and then Find (on this page). Type in the name of the item and it
will locate it right there.
3. Know HTML? Well then, you have no excuse for clicking to page after
page to access the NeoPets pages you most often go to! Go to a free web page
provider or even use the web space NeoPets provides as a pet page. Create links
to pages that you often visit, like News, Shop Till, Pet Reference, etc. Then
either make it your homepage or just refer to it when you want to navigate Neopia.
4. Don't know HTML? No problem - you can still do the same thing as
above, and it might even be more simple. I'll explain how to do it in Internet
Explorer; for other browsers, you can refer to the Help section of the browser
itself. Go to Favorites, then Organize Favorites. Click Create Folder and name
it NeoPets, or whatever. Go back to NeoPets.com, and save as a Favorite, in
that folder, each page you go to often. When you want to surf quickly, just
go to your favorites and you'll have the links.
5. If you're low on funds but really want to find out what a certain
expensive item does, like a Negg, don't waste all your money experimenting by
yourself. Go to the message boards, under Chat, and ask around nicely. Someone
will probably tell you. Just don't give them items or NP for the info, since
there's probably someone who will tell you for free.
6. If you're out of space in your inventory, and don't feel like using
the safety deposit box (for whatever reason), store stuff in your shop. Just
keep the prices at 0 for each item you're storing, and you'll have no problems.
7. Don't like how some URLs open on the NeoPets site in a brand-new
browser window? Right click on the link and click "Copy Shortcut", and go up
to the area where you put the URL in. Right click there, hit paste, and then
click "Go". The page will open in the same window.
8. The error message that NeoPets sometimes displays - that they are
down for maintanance - is not always necessarily true. It might just be a bug,
and the site may not really be down. Refresh a couple times to make sure of
which it is.
9. Do NOT pay 30-40 NP for food that you or others think is "cheap".
While 30 NP is a good price for other foods, there IS food that is much much
cheaper. The cans of peas and prunes that the Tiki man gives out are sold for
1-5 NP, and there are others.
10. Refresh on the Shop Wizard. This is obvious, but some newbies don't
realize that other shops aren't listed in the first list, but come up after
refreshing. Always make sure you buy your item for the cheapest price possible.
11. Always, always, always look at the News section when you get on
NeoPets at any time. I never used to, and I was always behind in everything
and had to find out new stuff the hard way. By looking at the News section you
will always be informed of the latest, and won't be left behind.
12. Hang out in the message boards. This is a really good place to make
friends. Just don't be rude or start arguments, and you will get along fine.
(Oh, and don't post pointless stuff like "I got a new Gameboy game today!".
The message boards are for mostly for NeoPets stuff.)
13. You might want to download Flash if you're going to be spending
lots of time on the NeoPets site. It's a free download, and it lets you play
more of the games and a lot of the new stuff NeoPets has on its site.
14. Need Neofriends, but can't seem to make any online? Look beyond
NeoPets' resources. First, look at other sites you like to go to. Chances are
some of the visitors you know from there will also be NeoPets fans and you could
become friends on NeoPets as well. School is also a good place for finding Neofriends.
Ask around and see if anyone enjoys it - I know all my friends have at least
heard of it, and I always see students playing it in the library, so you're
likely to find some Neo-addicts, too.
15. If you're tired of the shops never being stocked, get a better modem.
Of course, that's a silly suggestion since that option is not available to most
people. If it's the same for you, try going on NeoPets when a lot of other people
aren't. Early mornings and late nights, while not always feasible, are good
times for getting stuff on the Money Tree or from the main shops.
16. Don't blow all of your NP on one new item. Sure, they look very
cool when they first come out, but in a month (or less), they will be about
30 NP and in everyone's shop - with some notable exceptions, of course. So wait
a while before buying that new paintbrush or weapon.
17. Work on a budget. That'll be almost mandatory in the beginning,
but once you start getting lots and lots of NP you might be tempted to splurge.
Don't, except for every once in a while; instead, put all but 1,000 NP in the
bank each day (a plus to this is interest). Then, spend ONLY that thousand.
At the end of the day, if you have extra, put that in the bank; if you have
less, withdraw the amount you need. Just keep it at a steady 1,000.
18. Get a system. I visit the News section, my shop, both Wheels, the
Shrine, and the Healing Springs every day, and then look at other pages I might
need. It helps keep me organized and earn as much as I can, and I don't miss
anything important.
19. Some shops are ripoffs. I mean the main shops here. Some of the
"offworld" shops like the Mystery Island fruit shops, the Space Station PetPets
store, etc., sell stuff for much higher than it's really worth. The Shop Wizard
is almost always better.
20. Join a guild. These are great for making friends and being active
in Neopia; plus, in many guilds, you will get help like medicine, food, and
other nice things for your pet.
21. Interact with the NeoPets staff. Send in stories for the Neopian
Times, poems for the poetry page, drawings you've made for the Art Gallery,
suggestions for new items and worlds, scammer information, notices of bugs...
whatever! If any of your stuff is used you get NP as well as recognition, and
this is a great way to make friends with staffers.
22. Tell other folks about NeoPets. If you have a web site, include
a link to NeoPets (the link that will earn you referral points, of course);
if you go on a message board at all, add a link to NeoPets with your "signature"
line; tell your friends; whatever. You earn referral points with this and get
Neofriends!
23. If you think you can brave the chilly air, check out the Garage
Sale. Mike and Carassa have been in the process of moving for months, but that's
better for us! You can find lots of great deals here at low low prices but make
sure you really are getting a good deal. Visit a few times to find out what
they usually carry, check what they go for in the real market, and then come
back and get a good deal.

them in another edition of Tips & Tricks for Neopia. |
