To Expand Or Not To Expand by maeling77 | |
If there is one thing that really really annoys me the most, besides losing
at my favourite game, is attending those huge "slow-down-my-computer-please"
shops, filled with what I call "stuff"... stuff that stays there for long periods
of time and that only pressures the owner of the shop to wrongly feel the "need"
to expand, to lose those hard-to-earn Neopoints AND to waste everyone else's
time and patience with a huge slow-to-load shop. I personally try to avoid them
as much as possible. I have only been around NeoPets for about 3 months now
but I've learned a few things about shops that might be a little or a huge enlightening
for you, my dear Neopian Times reader.
First of all, one must to analyse if opening a shop will lead to something
good... I mean, not everyone has that much time to play around NeoPets, let
alone have time to restock a shop as fast as needed and sometimes have the patience
and again, time to haggle for a good price. Second, no one actually needs a
size 30 shop to be successful or to earn tons of NP. I myself own a size 6 shop,
that I bet has given me a lot more Neopoints than a size 30 would. In a few
words, size doesn't matter much but to impress or raise an eyebrow or two when
someone looks up at your profile; what really matters is the kind of items you
can offer to everyone else. One thing that one must keep in mind is if the items
we place on our shop are a good investment, are selling fast enough and are
giving us more NP of what we, ourselves invested on them. Is a good hint to
visit the chat boards quite often to have a clue on which items are the most
requested ones. Food is another good option, since we all have to feed our pets,
so there's no "let me think this twice" option.
Chocolates are a great way to earn some NP, since they are sold at the shops
for very little, and can be sold again on your shop for many many times their
original price on your shop--bad thing is, they are a bit harder to get nowadays.
Battle items, books and toys--reserve them only if you know they are a sellout.
Remember that not everyone fights in the Battledome and that almost no one enlightens
their pet, so buying lots of books can be a turn me down if the books aren't
part of the quest items. And besides, there are other ways to brighten up your
pet without spending Neopoints, such as the shrine. I totally suggest you to
avoid placing island merchandise, gross food and some Tombola winnings into
your shop, because no matter how cheap you try to sell them, they will take
up a lot of that precious space in your shop and will eventually make you lose
your more precious Neopoints.
Of course there's no "one size fits all" when it comes to buying and selling
in Neopia, but this little golden rule can come on handy to you, as it did to
me. Before planning on expanding, think about it twice and check which items
are a good sellout and which ones are just taking up space. If they are not
selling, try the trading post or the auction house... you can take back the
NP invested and at the same time you can free some space at your shop, but most
of all you'll be saving lots of Neopoints. And to finish, always always check
out the Shop Wizard before pricing, because you can have all the right items,
but if you have all the wrong prices, you might as well end up having a museum
instead of a Neopoint-making machine shop :). Happy shopping. |
