Neopia's Fill in the Blank News Source | 15th day of Hiding, Yr 28
The Neopian Times Week 24 > Articles > Recession = Depression? I Think NOT!

Recession = Depression? I Think NOT!

by ldfrostbite

If you haven't heard or seen by now, the economy in Neopia is kinda going down. Stocks are dropping, the Bank Interest Rates have been cut by 2% in the past WEEK, and sales aren't going as well as before the holidays. So, what should we do???

My answer to this, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Many people are going around Neopia selling the last of their stocks, selling what they can before values drop, and trying to bulk up their bank accounts to get the maximum interest. In reality, this is only ADDING to the recession!

Selling your stocks means there will be more stocks people can buy, lowering their values.

Selling your items adds more items in other places, where prices can rise, and takes away NP from many people who are panicking and buying things they need for expensive prices. If everyone sells their omelettes instead of using them, there are more omelettes in Neopia, therefore omelette values decline.

This is just like in the "Real World". If the U.S. Mint prints more $1 Bills, the $1 Bill won't be worth as much because there are more of them and more people have them.

If you bulk up your bank account, you are taking away from the NP used to issue game prizes AND interest, so you might end up causing interest rates to decline even more.

Now, obviously, one person cannot change the economy. So if one person has a lot of NP, it won't affect all of Neopia's economy. But think about how many players are on Neopets. If everyone did what I said above, selling stocks, getting rid of items, bulking up on NP, THAT could do some of the changing.

This is only my opinion, but I hope you understand it. My advice is to go on as you normally do, ignore the recession, and it will go away. If you "taunt" it, and help it along, it will only do more harm.
