Are They Really Worth It?

by ladee_sarah

As a guild leader I am constantly posting on the Guild board in the NeoPets chat rooms advertising my guild.

Every time I see a post headed something like "I need a guild" or "I'm guildless" I click on it and post my guild ad. I pride myself on carefully and quickly reading the list of requirements from the NeoPets user to make sure my guild's what they're looking for. If it's close but not exact I also tell them in my guild ad that I don't give have one of their requirements but would be very happy if they had a look anyway. I pride myself on being an unassertive guild leader.

Don't be mistaken, I have no problems whatsoever with people posting that they want a Battledome guild--that's reasonable. But, seriously, enough IS enough. I'm tired of the list of demands Neopians expect to be met.

I want a council position
I want competitions
I want it to have a Web site
I want to get a free item for joining
I want it to have Medical Insurance
I wan it to have a Neoschool
I want it to have an Adoption Centre... with painted pets
I want Faerie Crossword Answers
I want it to teach me how to make 1,000,000 NP (in three seconds)
I want jobs
I want admin capabilities
I want Cooking Pot combinations
I want inter-guild Battledome tournaments

...the list goes on and on!

As a guild leader I desperately want to please as many people as possible and make my guild the best it can possibly be but some people are outrageous! Don't they understand how much work is involved in running a guild? Or where the Faerie Paint Brush for the competition each week comes from?

Just to let all of these people know it comes from the guild leader. They sacrifice hundreds and thousands sometimes even millions of their own Neopoints every day, week, month and year to keep the competitions, Medical Insurance and Neoschool running. But no matter what they do there are always the odd couple of people who STILL aren't satisfied.

Because of all the demands on myself and my guild my guild has so many extra bits and pieces that require extra work from myself to maintain all because I wanted to make a couple of extra people happy. My guild has a Web site, fortnightly and weekly competitions, Neoschool, Medical Insurance, rotating guild council, newbie packs, competitions between our ally guilds the list goes on and on but there's still stuff that my guild doesn't have and stuff that it never will have.

In the end guild leaders have to ask themselves is it worth it? Myself I have to say no. I don't mind working hard to look after and maintain my guild but I can't go adding something every time there's a new demand. At first I did but only to find that the people who make these demands upon guild leaders more often that not fall into one of these two categories, Neopians that cannot be satisfied and Neopians who are just plain greedy.

So, I have to conclude that they're not worth it. They usually leave after a week anyway...
