Pet Name: Cieruu
"Don't come any closer!"
The tiny baby Xweetok shivered as she looked at me, her eyes filled with fright.
I stopped. The Xweetok seemed so defenceless and scared. I wanted to comfort her. Instinctivly, I took a step closer.
"Please! Take my kite, but don't hurt me!"
The baby Xweetok suddenly turned around and stumbled into the bushes. She raced off more quickly than I expected on her tiny feet. Soon, she was gone.
I sighed. There goes another one. Every time I try to help, the other neopets get scared. Was it because of my vampire fangs?
A Halloween Lupe stepped out from behind the trees.
"Well done! Another helpless pet scared away. The look on his face was hilarious! I daresay, you are even better than me."
"No!" I snapped. "I don't want to scare away other pets. I just want friends!"
The Lupe reeled back in shock. "Dude, you're a weird one. Why don't you just hang out with us Halloween pets back in the Haunted Woods?"
"It's no fun there," I replied sadly. "All you guys want to do is scare other pets."
"Fine, suit yourself." The Lupe huffed and bounded back into the woods.
I looked down at the bright kite in my hands. I was always rescuing kites from trees to give back to their owners, but every time, their owners became scared of me and ran away. I walked down towards the pond and stared at my murky reflection. A frightening Halloween Xweetok with razor sharp fangs and creepy yellow eyes stared back.
The sun was beginning to set. I tore my gaze from the pond and bounded into the air, letting the wind catch my wings and bring me back to the Haunted Woods.
I stopped to hover in midair and turned to face the voice.
A human was sprinting towards me, her face all red from running. She was holding the baby Xweetok in her arms.
"What do you want?" I said, sounding a bit meaner than I intended.
"I was watching you from a distance. I'm sorry for Llois's behavior. He's a little scaredy cat..."
"Am not!" The baby Xweetok pouted.
"Anyways," she continued, ignoring Llois's protest. "I know you're not a bad guy, and you were just trying to help Llois."
I landed silently on the grass and held out the kite. "Here's your kite. Take it."
The human put the baby Xweetok on the grass. "Go ahead, take it."
Llois," she scolded, "there's nothing to be afraid of."
"Fine." Llois hesitantly crawled forward. She looked up into my eyes, this time with curiosity, not fear. I handed her the kite. She took it, but she still stood there.
"Don't forget to thank him."
Llois hugged the kite and smiled; her fear seemed to have disappeared. "Thank you." She turned to crawl away, but then she paused and turned back. "What's your name?"
"Cieruu," I responded.
The human smiled. "Well, Cieruu, you seem pretty lonely. Do you want to come home with us?"
I blinked with surprise. "I'll have to think about it."
"If you make up your mind, we will have a room in our neohome for you. You'll also have lots of other brothers and sisters to play with!"
"Yes, please come!" Llois squeaked.
"I'll definitely consider!"
For the first time in a very long while, I smiled.
