Books: The Long-Neglected Way to Easy Money

by elusion

I remember back in the day when books rarely cost more than 30 NP a piece. Back when the normal intelligence of a pet was super genius. Back when books did not disappear after you read them.

Yes, that's right. Not all of you may remember, but there was a time when you could reuse books, much like you can with toys now, making them much less in demand. When the books began to disappear after reading, their price skyrocketed to hundreds of neopoints and settled back down again. Subsequently, the prices in the bookstore were raised significantly - most books now cost 100-500 NP in the official store - and the prices soared again. As of writing, these prices are still high.

That is the history of Neopian books in two paragraphs. Now, many readers are probably asking what this has to do with getting easy money from books. My shop, The Little Shoppe of Books, as implied by the name, sells only books, and I make a lot of money off of this. How? It's very simple.

First, books bought in the official store can almost always be sold for at least 100 NP more than I bought them for. A healthy profit - much better than food. Second, books are in demand. Don't charge too little, and your shop will be sold out within a day. Third, the shops stock a lot of books at a time. And fourth, almost contradicting my second point, books are not as in demand as other items, like Faeries and food.

Why does this make any difference? It's simple. If you decided to sell only Faeries in your shop, you would make a lot of profit off of each one you sold, but you might not get a single Faerie each time the magic shop restocked. With an average connection and a lot of money to spend in the bookshop, you can easily get ten books at a time. Ten books each restocking time gives you a profitable, reliable source of income that will draw a lot of customers to your shop. It's infinitely easier to keep a book-only shop stocked than a Faerie-only, and the more often you're fully stocked, the more often your customers will bookmark your shop and return for more. This ensures a steady flow of NP, sending you well on your way to riches!

So what are you waiting for? Head on over to the official bookstore and grab yourself a share of the growing trend!
