I was reading the morning Neopian Times when my darling Shoyru, Sunblaze, tumbled
into the room. She was always the last one to come eat breakfast. I smiled as
I looked into her burning eyes and her out-of-place fire fur. After yawning
widely, she hopped onto a chair.
"Where's Prissy, Keeker, and Rain?" she asked. I was always prepared for this
question because she asked it every morning.
"Prissy it outside gardening, Keeker went to play Gormball with some friends,
and Rain when down to Neopia Central to shop" came the answer.
She nodded and began to stuff her face with Omelette. When she spotted the
Newspaper, and choked down what she was eating. "Can I see the comics?" she
asked innocently.
I was too busy looking at my stocks to notice that I had given her the wrong
page. The front page was now missing and the comics were still in my lap, but
I heard no complaining from the little Shoyru. Strange, I thought, there
must be something really fascinating on the front page if she's not asking for
the comics!
Indeed there was something interesting. Here's a clipping of it:
Pant
Devil: Still at Large
On
the 31 day of hunting, little Ginny the Acara was ambushed by the Pant Devil
and had her Red Bike stolen. Judge Hog had been hired to help the little Acara,
but he has come down with some sort of sickness that makes you afraid of the
Pant Devil! He has posed signs for help and Ginny has now offered a reward.
"Please! Any one who find my bike can have a choice of anything I own!!!" Investigators
have even found where that monster had been hiding. For all those who are brave
enough, the Pant Devil is at the Stone Dome in the Neopets Battledome. He has
a life of 21 HP and is tougher than before. Please! He still hasn't been beaten
and he is still as strong as ever. For more information, see Judge Hog at Defenders

I looked at my Neopet. She smiled at the article and looked at me. Before she
could even spill out what she wanted to say, my answer had already came. "NO!"
I said. "You'll get hurt and I refuse to pay for Battledome weapons! I'm not
an NP machine. And besides, I don't want you to get hurt" and I looked at her
in a final sort of way.
She ran to her room crying. "You never let me do anything!" she shouted through
the door when I tried to comfort her. "Just because... because... I'm too little,
right?"
"I don't think your too little to do anything!" I said, but I guess she couldn't
hear me through her sobs. I wondered if I should wait outside the door a little
while longer, but I finally decided to leave her alone.

"Sunblaze?" I asked softly, opening her door a little bit. "I'm sorry I yelled
at you, so I brought you your favourite, a Bananarific Ice Lolly!" There was
still no sound, so I pushed the door open a little further. "Sunblaze?"
All I found was an open window and empty room. I gasped. I can't believe
she escaped just to fight the Pant Devil! I thought, jumping to conclusions.
I raced down stairs to see Rain, my Starry Uni, walk through the door. She put
down her shopping bags when she saw how distressful I looked.
"Rain, I need you to get me too 123456789 Neopia Central! Sunblaze is going
to go and hurt herself by fighting that stupid Pant Devil"
I knew the Uni was on the verge of saying 'let her,' but she could tell this
was no time for wise cracks. After dropping the shopping bags in her room, Rain
flexed her wings and waited for me to hop on. She didn't have to wait long.
Even though I was afraid of heights, it didn't matter anymore as we flew out
of the house and into the crisp day.

Rain and I reached the Defenders of Neopia's HQ in less than five minutes (which
must be a record)! I gave Rain directions to go home, bring Prissy here and
to also find Keeker too. I also told her to bring most of my emergency NP, which
I used in life or death situations.
I ran inside the building and skidded around a few corners until I ran into
Judge Hog,
who just finished giving a white Lupe instructions on how to help Ginny, the
little Blue Acara, who was sitting on a stool near by with her head in her paws.
I breathed heavily and waited for my breath to catch while the Moehog and Lupe
stared at me.
"Mr. Judge Hog? I'm Laura2s040 and I was wondering if you have seen a Fire
Shoyru lately. I'm afraid that she is really going to hurt herself so it's an
emergency! Have you seen one?" I sighted.
Judge shook his head. "I have people working for me and I don't see all the
Neopets that come in here" he said, but the Lupe said that he had seen a Shoyru.
"I saw a female Fire Shoyru run out of the building just as I was entering.
She had an Anglepuss following her. Does that helps?" he asked.
I recalled back in my memory that Angle the Anglepuss was missing from the
empty bedroom too! Oh, Sunblaze! Why did you have to disobey me? I thought
as the rest of my thoughts scrambled for an idea to save her. "Where can I find
this Pant Devil?" I asked without even thinking.
"At the Battledome," the Lupe explained. "I can show you if you follow me,"
he added.
Just as we ran through the front doors I ran smack into a short Green Kacheek
and a Cloud Poogle. "Prissy! Keeker! I'm glad you could make it. Where's Rain?"
I asked the pair.
"She went to the bank for some NP, she says she forgot were you put it!" they
answered together.
I hit myself in the head. How could I be so stupid and forget to tell Rain
the I leave the NP at the back of our shop! I thought. I knew there was
no time to waste, but I couldn't leave without my Uni knowing where we were
going.
"Well, are we going or not?" came the voice of the Lupe right next to me. I
almost forgot he was there. I sadly explained my dilemma. I then looked at him
for a moment and realised I didn't even know who this Lupe was. "What is your
name anyway?"
"Rick" came the simple answer. "Here, I have an idea! All Poogles are pretty
fast, so your Poogle can go and get this Uni of yours! There, problem solved"
We all thought it was a very good idea, so a Prissy raced off as Keeker jumped
on Rick's back and we dashed to the Battledome was fast as our legs could take
us.

An unwelcome sight met my eyes when we got their. Sunblaze was already in the
ring with the Pant Devil. They were only throwing insults, but I knew in a while,
they would be throwing more than that.
"What kind of name is that? The 'Pant Devil'? Looks like you're at a lost because
your not wearing any!" she shouted across the dome.
"Well, You don't even have weapons to fight with! You say you're good, but
I know it's just talk!"
The Pant Devil was right, it was just talk.
Rick came to sit right next to me. "She's not going to make it. She was an
HP of 10 and doesn't have any moves from a bottled Faerie" he gasped, looking
at the score board that revealed information about the Neopets (or monsters)
fighting.
I felt sad. If I had originally let her do this fight, at least she would have
been well equipped and have higher HP. I sighted and looked down at my feet.
I didn't want to watch, but something caught my eye.
Glittering around Rick's neck was an Amulet of Life. Without even thinking,
I pulled it off of him and threw it at my Shoyru. "Sunblaze! Catch!" I yelled
and she caught it, but with an angry glare at me. I guess she was still mad
that I didn't let her fight in the first place.
I watched her for the first move. She flew up gracefully, preparing to dive
at the monster who had stolen Ginny's bike. I watched in horror as the Pant
Devil began to draw out a Yellow Ice cannon and a Rainbow Gun and, before Sunblaze
could even dive, he pulverised her.
She was at 1 HP out of 10 now. She smiled at the Pant Devil in a weird way
and put the amulet around her neck. She revitalised and was safe... for the
time being. I knew that her next move would most probably be her last.
Then Rain and Prissy arrived in the nick of time. They both heaved a large
bag brimming with Battledome weapons, both offensive and defensive. I watched
as Sunblaze strapped on a Fire Rock Torso Shield and grabbed the great Sword
of Domar. She had a Blue Frost Cannon by her side and a mound of snowballs on
her other. Rain had also bought a Puce Elixir.
What happened next happened so fast though. The Pant Devil and Sunblaze had
a terrific fight, but in the end, when the Pant Devil was down to 5 HP and Sunblaze
only had 1, but my Shoyru didn't get up. She was hit hard with a bolt of lightning
and she didn't get up. I feared for her life!
It was really hard to recall what happened but the Pant Devil was ready to
finish her off with a terrible blow from a Super Ice Sword when Rick came bounding
into the ring and... a bright golden light filled the stadium. I was sure that
Rick the Lupe had taken the blow, but I had no idea what was happening now.
The light took every one and every Neopet's breath away. Then a shock wave
seemed to spread and every one, including me, got knocked out.

"Is she going to be all right?" I asked the Gelert Nurse.
"She'll be fine," she assured me and walked down the hospital hall.
I stared at the form of Sunblaze. She had her horn warped in bandages and a
broken arm and leg. Her right eye was black and she had millions of tiny
cuts and bruises, but if the nurse told me she would be okay, than Sunblaze
would be okay.
I turned on the TV to watch the news.
"This is Robert the Quiggle, reporting live in the Neopia Jail. Everyone, including
you Ginny, will be happy to here that the Pant Devil it behind bars tonight.
We have interviewed many Neopets that were at the Battledome They say that a
female Fire Shoyru was in the ring when a white unidentified Neopet ran in the
way. Some say it saved the little Shoyru, others say the Neopet was crazy. We
may never know, because, after the light cleared and everybody slipped back
into consciousness, the Lupe was gone. Many think he beat the Pant Devil, but
we will present the Fire Shoyru, whose name is Sunblaze, a medal for her bravery
after she recovers."
I noise came from the bed. "He didn't die... I saw the Faerie Queen take him
up. He's the Faerie Queen's Neopet!" she struggled to say.
I calmed her down. "I know he was sent by the Faerie Queen. Who else would
be so kind and helpful. He saved your life... and I'm thankful..."

Author's note: Sunblaze, Rain, Prissy, and Keeker are all my pets and not made
up. This is kind of a true story. I did fight the Pant Devil with Sunblaze and
lost terribly, but she didn't end up in the hospital. Rick however, was totally
made up, but I hope all you reader's enjoyed it. |
