Managing Your NeoHome

by charizard322

This article is all about NeoHomes and how to build them. We'll cover everything from selecting land, material, and furniture. Then to the really fun part which is organising your furniture and saving the layout. We'll even cover some things most users have trouble on. All of this we'll go through step by step.

Selecting a Plot of Land
Just like in real life you can't build a house without some land and you can't have a plot of land without buying it first. You can choose what location you want your NeoHome to be in and I'll list the location along with their prices now. They go from cheapest to most expansive. It's a good idea that you put some food for thought on your location.

Neopia Central - This location is good if you want to be close to the main shops and don't want to travel too far if you want to go to Kauvara's or your guild. But you will have to travel more if you want to visit other worlds.

-1,000 NP

Mystery Island - Mystery Island is a good idea if your pet likes swimming in the ocean and relaxing on the beach, and best of all they don't even have to travel that far.

-2500 NP

Tyrannia - Tyrannia is a good idea if your NeoPet likes Tyrannia or enjoys eating omelettes and Tyrannian food.

-3,500 NP

Haunted Woods - I don't think this is a good idea if you have younger NeoPets because they might get scared. Older NeoPets can live here but only if they like exploring and don't mind Edna, The Esophagor, and the Brain Tree bugging them a lot.

-5,000 NP

Lost Desert - If your NeoPet likes hot, dry places then I recommend building here, but if you decide to build here just make sure your Air Conditioning is working.

-7,500 NP

Terror Mountain - Also Known as winter world this is a good place to go if your pets like the cold. Here you can try to steal from the Snowager and cash in your Neggs without traveling and even buy a slushie. It's not recommended for NeoPets that are scared of the Snowager, Frost Beast, and all of the other monsters lurking about.

-15,000 NP

Faerieland - The most expansive location and only recommended if all of your pets have some way of flying and if you have the NP. This place is close to the healing springs for tough battles, and useful if you spin the wheel of excitement a lot, and you can even go on a quest to find the hidden tower without traveling that far.

-25,000 NP

Now that we gone over all of the possible locations for your NeoHome it's time to move onto

Building the Rooms
Now we'll go over the next step which is building the rooms. Now I want to go over a few guidelines to follow when you're building the rooms

1.) Make all rooms connect. When I say connect I mean having doorways leading from one room to another on both ends. For example if you have a NeoHome with 2 rooms one to the left and one right to the right you'll need an east exit on the left one and a west exit on the right one. I hope you catch what I mean.

Exception to Rule #1 The only exception to this rule is if the rooms don't connect that way or if you want to build a secret passage for your NeoHome

2.) This is not required but it's recommended that you use the same materials for each room per floor so it looks good. Again you don't have to do this but it's recommended.

Now that we gone over a few guidelines you can start building your rooms in your home. Just build any rooms you think you might need but remember don't make your NeoHome have tons of rooms unless you need tons of rooms and it's a good idea to give your pets a separate bedroom.

If you don't know what kinds of rooms to put in here are a few suggestions: Bedrooms, Living Room, Kitchen, Dining Room, Playroom, Bathroom, Secret Passages and well you get the idea.

Furniture
Now for the really fun part it's ta dah Neo-Furniture. I'll go over this in some steps including the parts a lot of people have trouble with and sometimes don't even know about.

1.) Purchase/Trade Furniture In this step you buy, use the trading post or whatever you want to get some furniture for your NeoHome Be creative with what furniture you want in it and you can always come back and purchase some more later.

2.) Put the furniture into the room you want them to go in Go into your inventory and click on the furniture and they go by the rooms by ID Number. Now we're going to retrieve the id numbers go into your NeoHome and click on My NeoHome then click on the room and use that to put furniture in. It's a good idea to write it on an index card or post-it note and leave it by your comp so you won't lose the id numbers.

3.) Organise your furniture Now for the best part in this guide-Organising your things! Now click on furniture and select the room you want to furnish then organise the furniture however you want to. Here's a few controls that will help you organise it.

+ The plus button (use the one at the right of the keyboard not the one near the top that you press shift for. It makes your life easier)Can be used to raise items. What I mean by raise is for example you want to put some pillows on top of the couch but the couch automatically goes on top of the pillows. In that case you can select the pillows and press plus until it goes on top of the couch. The - minus button does the same thing as the + except that it lowers them.

Nudge an item-Nudging an item is when you move it a teeny tiny bit each time and you do that by using the arrow keys.

Using the shift key with any of these commands modifies it which is why you shouldn't use the plus and minus keys at the top of the keyboard.

There are two (or 3 for some items) square buttons on each of them sticking out that do certain things. Most people know what they do but if you don't I'll go over it here.

The first one at the top rotates the item, which comes in useful. It's a blue arrow shaped like a circle going clockwise.

The lock locks the item into place so you can't move it. Useful if you want to move something near another item and don't want to accidentally move that other item.

Action (A) button-Only some items have this button, and if they do this button turns their action on and off for every click.

Saving your layout Now that you organised your furniture in your NeoHome it's time to save your layout. Go look for a really thin black rectangular shape in the upper-left hand corner of where you're organising and mouse-over it then click save and you'll get a notice saying it's saved.

Resetting Your Layout
Resetting your layout is the same as saving it but you just click reset instead. If you do this you lose the layout you worked hard on. Only do this if you're sure you want to start over organising it.

Removing Furniture Items
To remove a furniture item go to where you organise your furniture and scroll down and click on remove items from room and click on the item you want to remove.

I hope that helps you make your NeoHome and if you need ideas feel free to check out my NeoHome, and if you have any additional questions about this feel free to Neomail me.
