NeoCircles: A Forgotten Treasure by nicoley13 | |
"Sorry, I'm already in a guild." This is a response I often get when inviting
people to join my NeoCircle. The problem is, a NeoCircle is something very different
from a guild! In this article, I will explain exactly what NeoCircles are and
what they can do for you. There is also a step-by-step guide on how to create
or join a NeoCircle.
So then, if it's not a guild, what is a NeoCircle? Well, a NeoCircle is a way
to connect web sites that have a similar theme. For example, you could have
a NeoCircle for people who love Poogles, people with Elephantes, people who
collect Usukis (like mine!), or anything else you can think of. And you don't
have to have a NeoCircle for web sites you created outside of NeoPets! You could
have a NeoCircle connecting pets' pages or shops too!
Next question. Why create or join a NeoCircle? Well, the main reason is free
traffic to your site or shop! You see, when you join a NeoCircle, you put a
special NeoCircle box on your site that connects you to the other sites in the
NeoCircle! It's also a great way to meet new people, and when your NeoCircle
gets bigger and bigger, you can earn better and better rosettes! Also, the more
people that join your NeoCircle, the higher you'll appear in the search ranking.
Sound like something you're interested in? Good, because next I'll explain
how to create a NeoCircle! Before you can do anything, you need to know where
to find NeoCircles. You have two options: 1) Click on Link to Us near the bottom
of the yellow menu bar. There's a link to NeoCircles at the top of the page.
2) Go to World. The link is right next to Guilds. Or simply go here.
Once you've done that, you can click on Search to see what's already out there
and for some ideas on what to have your NeoCircle be about. You can see the
Top 20 NeoCircles right away, but you can also search for other NeoCircles using
key words. The search is case-sensitive. Tip: Try to think of something original.
Don't have your NeoCircle be about the same thing as lots of other NeoCircles.
Once you've picked your topic, click on Create. First, enter your NeoCircle
name. Try to make it catchy. For example, my NeoCircle's name is !*!Usuki
Luvers United!*! Then enter your site name. It can be the name of your
site outside of NeoPets, or the name of your shop or pet's page. Last, copy
and paste your site's URL into the last box. Tip: Make sure you don't have two
http://s. Otherwise, the link won't work. That happens a lot, because there's
already one there for you.
After you have created your NeoCircle, click on My NeoCircles. There you will
find a list of your NeoCircles, and a link to list/delete members and edit your
NeoCircle. Click on your ring name to edit your NeoCircle. The number on the
top is the Circle ID. This is another way to look up a NeoCircle, by its number.
To do this, you click on Lookup.
The first thing you can edit is your NeoCircle's name. Do this, if you want
to. Tip: I would have one name and stick with it. If you want to change it at
first, when you don't have any members, that wouldn't matter as much.
The next box is for the HTML code. This is what shows up in your NeoCircle
box. You can put whatever you want in it. It can be something as simple as the
name of your NeoCircle, to a logo you made yourself. If you're not very good
with HTML, I would check out the NeoPets
HTML Guide. I suggest making the HTML a picture or two from around the
site and the name of your NeoCircle. For example, if your NeoCircle is for Chomby
owners, you could put an image of a Chomby in the HTML. Don't put in too much,
or too little. If it's too much, some people might not want it on their site.
But if it's too little, the NeoCircle box might not be very noticeable. It needs
to look good, because if it does, there's a better chance of people checking
out other sites in the NeoCircle or even joining! Tip: Don't change the HTML
after you have a bunch of members. It's too complicated to have them change
the box on their site.
The next choice you have is to make your NeoCircle active. I would, because
then if people search for a key word that's in your NeoCircle's name, it will
come up in the search. They might join!
Last, you can pick an icon for your NeoCircle. Try to make it have something
to do with the theme of your NeoCircle. There's lots of options, from pets,
to faeries, to a Negg, to a rain drop. For example, if it's a Chia NeoCircle,
make the icon a Chia. If your NeoCircle is for shops, make the icon a shopping
bag or shopping cart. Or if it's for Battledome lovers, make it the Battle Faerie.
If there aren't any icons that have to do with your NeoCircle, just make it
something you like, like the sun, star, or trophy. Then click on Edit NeoCircle
at the bottom.
Next, to see exactly what you're NeoCircle box looks like, click on My NeoCircles
and then on Preview. If you're happy with it, you should copy and paste the
NeoCircle code at the bottom into your site. Otherwise, you can always edit
it.
Now you need to find members. I find that the best way is to Neomail people
who you think might want to join. Include a link to joining your NeoCircle in
your Neomails. Always thank people for joining, and be polite.
NeoCircle owners have one last option. If somebody has joined your NeoCircle
and you don't want them in it for whatever reason, just go to My NeoCircles
and click on List/Delete Members. There you have the option of deleting people
who don't have the kind of site you're looking for, are spammers, or just joined
for free advertisement.
Creating a NeoCircle sound like too much for you? Well, that's OK, because
you could also just join one! All you have to do, once you have found a NeoCircle
you want to join, is type in your site name and URL. Then, click on Get Code
and copy and paste the code into your site. If you ever want edit your site
name or URL or leave a NeoCircle, that's under Get Code too. You can only join
a certain NeoCircle once, but a site can be a member of up to three NeoCircles!
This means you can join three NeoCircles for as many sites as you want! Your
shop, your pets' pages... That's a lot of free traffic!
Well, I hope you learned a lot about NeoCircles from my article! Now get out
there and start creating and joining those NeoCircles! Thanks for reading. |
