The WereLupe Files Case 2: The Disappearing Faeries -- Part Three

by neojolteon2

When I woke up, I found I had fallen asleep on the sofa. I stretched and yawned showing my sharp canines. I noticed Maylas wasn’t home yet.

“Geesh, I didn’t think he was that mad,” I said to myself.

I cooked a light breakfast of bacon. I was going to have to head out and look for a job. As I chewed on a slice, I heard the front door open a close. I looked up to see Maylas running in with a grin on his face.

“Guess what?” he said almost running out of breath. I was afraid to ask.

     “What?” I said not interested.

“I know where Balthazar is!” he exclaimed. I snorted.

“Yeah right. How? Did you see him just walking around or something?” I asked sarcastically.

Maylas looked proud through my insult.

“Actually, no. I went to the Haunted Woods and did a request for Edna. But I made a deal with her. Instead of giving me a prize like always, I asked her to tell me where Balthazar was hiding. She agreed and now I know!” he explained happily.

“And where, by chance, did you get the money to go to the Haunted Woods and the money to buy the items for Edna?” I asked him. Maylas grin faded from his face.

“Well, uh, you see, I didn’t have the money on me so...” he drifted off there.

“So?” I growled giving him my Lupe stare.

“So I borrowed some from the bank account,” he said the last part in a whisper but my Lupe ears picked it up. My anger immediately flared.

“Maylas...” I growled angrily. I could feel my fangs beginning to poke out from my muzzle. My ears becoming bigger.

“Colbolt, remember your anger and trigger the transformation,” Maylas cautioned. I wasn’t paying attention.

“Just, pray tell, how much is left in the bank?” I growled my voice getting deeper.

     Maylas began to back away.

“A little more than five hundred Neopoints,” he squeaked out.

I felt the transformation complete. I chased after Maylas as he ran. I quickly cornered him and held him up by his neck.

“I should kill you!” I growled fiercely. Maylas struggled in my grip.

“Colbolt, remember! I’m your brother!” he squeaked out. I released him and let him fall to the ground. I was in control the whole time but just really ticked off at Maylas for spending most of our money on nothing!

I regressed back to my normal Lupe self and slouched into a couch.

“Colbolt. I’m really sorry for do it but now we can easily make it back! I know where Balthazar and we can catch him!” he said standing in front of me.

“Then why don’t we just tell the police about it?” I said.

Maylas shifted his gaze away. I sighed.

“Another part of Edna’s bargain?” I growled.

“Yeah. I can’t tell the police or I’ll be cursed,” he said sadly.

“Fine, when are we going to go there?” I said knowing it wasn’t going to be easy.

“Go where?” Moon said walking in. Khell was right behind her with a bandage on his paw.

“Maylas wants to go and capture Balthazar and recover the Faeries,” I told her.

“And Colbolt can use the faeries powers to return himself to a regular Lupe,” Maylas added.

     “Can we come?” Khell asked.

“Maylas has already spent most of our money just for us two,” I answered feeling a bit angry still a Maylas.

“Don’t worry! Moon has lots of money! She won 10,000 NP at the Wheel of Excitement!” Khell exclaimed out loud. Moon glared at him angrily.

“It was just a lucky spin,” she protested. I felt a little jealous at Moon since I had been spinning it and only winning 200 to 500 NP.

“Fine, you can come but you pay your own way. And bring some weapons along,” I told them. Moon and Khell left.
