There he sat, the Ghost
Lupe looking over the ocean. It had been seventy-five years since that day
he had lost his love.
"Hiloka," he murmured. The name seemed strange
to his lips. "When will you return to me? When will you keep your promise that
you made seventy-five years ago?"
He stood on the cliff, waiting for his bride.
When would she come? She had said that she would. The memory of what happened
was still so clear in the Ghost Lupe's head.
"I love you," said a beautiful white Lupe. It
had been Hiloka so long ago.
"I do to. This was a fantastic honeymoon wasn't
it?" the Ghost Lupe, who in that time was a Blue Lupe called Jonoq, had said.
"Yes," said Hiloka, her voice unconvincing.
"I know that voice. What's wrong dear?" Jonoq
asked, his voice concerned.
"Well, I know this is the best place for a honeymoon
possible, but-"
"But?" Jonoq asked.
"But everyone's here! I can't go anywhere without
seeing someone I know! And you are always busy celebrating with your friends
and parties every night! I can't stand it! I wanted to be alone with you, not
with a bunch of people we know! Just you!" Hiloka cried, her voice filled with
distress.
Jonoq stared at her, then said firmly, "Fine
then. Let's go. Pack your stuff."
Hiloka had not even asked where, when Jonoq
spoke in a voice like that asking a question would be idiotic.
When Hiloka had packed her stuff Jonoq led her
to a yacht and told the Nimmo running it something which she could not hear.
Then the yacht started and Hiloka sat down. There was no use doing anything
else. Jonoq was stubborn as a Skeith and when angered was more dangerous than
the most dangerous Grarrl.
Somewhere along the trip Hiloka had fallen asleep
and when she awoke she was on a small, deserted looking island.
"Well, you said you didn't want to see anyone
you knew. I asked the ship captain to return in about a week, well be roughing
it though. You don't mind, do you?" Jonoq asked with a smile upon his face.
"I don't mind," said Hiloka, she had been beaming.
How Jonoq had loved that smile.
The week went by, and the Nimmo came back, but
Hiloka had refused to get on the boat. She loved the island so much that Jonoq
could not bring himself to take it away from her. Finally, he gave in and started
building a hut.
Everyday was like a holiday for Hiloka and Jonoq.
They had each other and that was all they needed. Even though they where alone
they got along wonderfully. Hiloka had started a Tigersquash garden and Jonoq
was constantly adding additions to their house. But then, tragedy stuck.
It had been one year since they had arrived
on the island and they had explored almost every inch of it, but their favorite
spot was a place they had dubbed Sunset Point. It was a high cliff that overlooked
the ocean and when the time was just right, the sunset was so beautiful you
could swear it was something that came out of a storybook.
For their anniversary Jonoq had decided to build
a summerhouse on the Sunset Point for Hiloka. Every spare minute he had he was
at the house, working on it so it would be ready for their anniversary. Finally,
Jonoq finished it, just in time to, for it was the day of their anniversary.
When night came, Jonoq tied a bandanna around
Hiloka's eyes and led her to the house, not knowing that someone was watching
them. When they got to Sunset Point Hiloka gasped.
"Oh! It's beautiful!" she had cried. "When did
you do this? Oh, I can't wait till summer, let's stay in it now!"
Jonoq and Hiloka ran into the house and when
Jonoq was about to pour the rose wine there was a bang.
"What was that?" Hiloka cried.
Jonoq picked up a rock from the ground (the
floors of the hut were dirt) and walked toward the window.
"Who's there?" Jonoq cried.
"Sodnurg!" a voice said in reply.
"Sodnurg?" Jonoq repeated but then felt a searing
pain.
An arrow had pierced his arm.
"Jonoq!" Hiloka cried with tears in her eyes.
"No! Don't come any closer!" he managed to say,
the pain was great and he had a sickening feeling the arrow had been poisoned.
"Who- who was it?" Hiloka whispered her voice
shaky and scared.
Jonoq looked out the window. The things where
big, green, and muscular, in exception to one small thing with a black cloak.
"I have no idea," he replied staring at the things. "But whatever they are,
you have to get away from them. I will distract them why you run."
"N-no!" Hiloka said scared, but strong. "Your
hurt, you can't face them!"
But Jonoq's mind had been made up. "You go around
the back. I don't want you getting hurt. When it's safe to go I'll howl. Please
just do this for me Hiloka."
Sadly, Hiloka agreed and went to the back of
the house, ready for her signal.
Meanwhile, Jonoq limped towards the door. His
plan was to dive into the Juppie bushes in the front then sneak behind the intruders
then jump on them. But just when Jonoq got behind them he heard a voice that
made every hair on his body go straight up.
"I can't believe some Lupes landed on this island!
No one ever goes on it. I gave them plenty of time to get out, but since they
won't go I will have to make them," the voice said, every word he said was like
nails on a chalkboard.
"Era uoy gniog ot od gnihtyna OT meht? I wonk
taht uoy evah neeb gnipoleved a tnatum alumrof rof Sepul, dna uoy nac esu eno
rof na tnemirepxe-" another voice said in a very weird language.
"Yes, I might use one of them for that. After
all, Lupes are very powerful creatures, but if you hit the other one with one
of those arrows we won't have any Lupes to use! The Lupe in back of us knows
that his arrow was poisoned, and I believe he is waiting for us to finish our
conversation," the awful voice said coolly. "Why don't you just finish him off
now? At least let him go quickly."
Jonoq froze in his tracks. They knew he was
there! He tried to run, but a huge giant green thing with blood red eyes
and two little antenna thingies sticking out of it's head grabbed him before
he could even lift a paw.
Out of fright, Jonoq let out a long, loud howl.
Realizing what he had done he tried to struggle to get free, he had to cause
some sort of diversion because if he didn't, the intruders would see Hiloka
just as she dashed out.
"Let me go!" Jonoq yelled.
"You might as well not struggle, it is of no
use," said the cloaked figure.
"Yeah, well why don't you face me like a--"
But then something awful happened. Hiloka tripped
on a rock and gave out a whimper just two feet away from where the intruders
and Jonoq were standing.
Hiloka looked up and saw everyone staring at
her. She immediately ran.
"Drop him!" the cloaked intruder yelled. "He
will not be around much longer anyway! Get the girl!"
The moments after that became fuzzy. Jonoq remembered
being dropped and the intruders started chasing after Hiloka. The poison was
starting to take affect. He tried to chase them, he tried to help Hiloka, but
when he found her the intruders already tied her up.
"Jonoq!" she had cried, her voice had sounded
very far away. "Jonoq I will meet you again on Sunset Point! I promise!"
But then she was pulled away and the green creatures
were marching off. The cloaked figure just stood there and started laughing.
The hood on his cloak fell to reveal his hideous face and his snake like eyes.
He stared and Jonoq and his face broke into an evil smile. After that everything
went blank for Jonoq and he had re-awoken as a ghost.
Every night he returned to Sunset Point, waiting
Hiloka. But she never came. Year after year, he lingered around Neopia and after
a while people and Neopets saw him. He had told them all his name was the Ghost
Lupe, and sometimes did them small favors. He had never revealed his true identity;
he didn't want a pity party around him all the time!
Currently, he was sitting on Sunset Point waiting
for someone or something. Suddenly, he jumped. Something had been moving in
the bushes behind him.
"Who's there? If you're another one of those
reporters for the Times or you want to learn about me forget it! I do have deadly
powers and I am not afraid to use them!" the Ghost Lupe growled. A slight lie
about the deadly powers, but hey, how would they know?
"I'm not leaving! I need to meet you!" said
a voice that sounded oddly familiar.
"Who are you?" the Ghost Lupe asked suspiciously.
"I will not tell you until I see you!" the voice
replied and an odd sensation ran through the Ghost Lupe. He knew that voice.
"Fine, come out of those bushes so I can see
you!" the Ghost Lupe said in a quiet voice.
The creature stepped out of the bushes to reveal
a white Lupe.
"Hiloka?"
To be continued...
