Is it Hot in Here? A Comprehensive Guide to Volcano Run

by seven166

TYRANNIA - As you walk though the catacombs of a dormant Tyrannian volcano during a mind numbing tour, you notice a pile of ashes sprawled across the stone floor. You lean down for a closer look, and notice a scrap of clothing. Then it hit you. It was that Glubgar figure from that new Neopets game, Volcano Run. You back up suddenly. Do you want to end up like that? I didn't think so! You turn to run out of the volcano when you notice a small, badly burnt journal lying on the floor. You pick it up to see that the cover was singed, but the pages were fine. Opening it up, you see the title: How to not get burnt to a crisp, by Ugghn Ugga. Hmm… interesting… You turn the page, and begin to read.

Flying techniques

In the game of Volcano run, one requires only one thing. A trigger happy mouse clicking finger. Now, this game is fairly simple, but crashing into a fiery ball of lava is always a threat. To avoid this, you have to get into a rhythm with the right button on the mouse. Click to go up, release to go toward the ground. Simple enough right? Wrong. By clicking for all you have worth is not going to win you a "Better than You" trophy. You must click, hold, and release to avoid the flaming balls of fire that jump up and down from the ceiling and floor.

The basic evasion technique is to try to go over every single one, barely missing a dusty death. This may get you a score of perhaps 300-500, depending on how lucky you are.

The more advanced evasion pattern requires watching the movement of the fireballs. If a fireball is coming from the floor, aim yourself towards the floor. Since the fireball is moving upward, you should be giving yourself enough wiggle room. The other possibility is that the fireball will be coming from the ceiling. Now, you would aim for the ceiling, instead of the floor. Doing this is not always easy, as the floor may be at an upward tilt, so please be careful. This tactic will most probably net you from 500-1000, but you may be having a bad run, so perhaps not that much.

Items

Blue diamond shaped thing: These add points to your score. It's nearly impossible to tell, but I'd say each would give you from 10-30 points a piece.

Brown cloud of volcanic dust: These are rather annoying. They slow you down, which may be good, but also restrict your downward movement. Try to avoid these, but don't slam yourself into the floor trying to do it okay?

Blue bubble: This is a shield, and most probably the most important thing in the game. Just run into it to activate the shield. This will protect you from one hit of either the fireballs, or red-hot ceiling and floor. All in all, this is a great, addictive game, with great replay value. It's not hard, but it's not easy either. Enjoy!

...As you close the book, you look again at the pile of ashes on the floor. "Ouch".
