The group of pets rushed quickly and smartly with Shoyru lying still in their
arms, as they headed straight for the nearby hospital. They were just a few
metres away when a Chia policeman stopped them in their tracks.
"Oi!" it shouted. "This town is off limits to intruders! Have you got your
ID?"
Wingman glared daggers at the policeman.
"Shoyru is sick!" he yelped. "We need to diagnose this illness and fast! Don't
you know anything can happen?"
"SILENCE!" he boomed. "One more word and you will be arrested for disrupting
a Chia police officer!"
"Oh really!?!?" Wingman muttered, shedding tears of anger and cursing under
his breath. Voltager's hands sparked with electricity, and nearly threw an electric
ball at the officer. Promptly the officer grabbed Voltager and slung cuffs on
her hands, squeezing them tightly. Voltager panicked.
"I couldn't help it Officer!" she squealed. "It's a reflex! Ever since I was
young I've had that! Electric sparks always fly from my..."
"QUIET! Attempting to attack a superior officer ends young lady up in court!"
the officer boomed.
"But..." started Voltager, gasping. She had to hold onto Kacheek to stand straight.
"SILENCE!"
Felicity rushed round to Wingman to calm him down, but he only shed more tears.
The Chia then tried to drag Voltager away when Kacheek leapt out in front of
him, despite his attempts to push Kacheek back.
"You have no right to do this to my friends!" he bawled. "Release that Shoyru
in the cuffs now and let us into the hospital. This is an EMERGENCY! Shoyru
could be gone forever!"
That did it. The officer, holding a large thick chain, jumped into the air.
Kacheek had lost sight of him, and so the Chia threw the chain, catching Kacheek,
Voltager, Shoyru, Felicity and Wingman and clashing them so close together they
were almost choking. Shoyru fainted again, despite Kacheek's attempts to revive
him, which got crushed by the chains. Kacheek burst into tears.
The officer returned to earth, crowing jubilantly and dragged the chain of
pets and threw them into the back of a large van.
"Let this be a lesson to the LOT of you!" he said, angrily. "Nobody EVER messes
with me, EVER, do you hear?"
A group of passing pets, a Scorchio, a Meerca and a Blumaroo heard this and
jumped in surprise. They hid behind a bush together and began chattering. There
was no answer from Shoyru's team.
"Well, let that be a lesson to you anyway!" he boomed. Slamming the boot of
the van, he climbed into the driver's seat and rode the van, screeching the
sirens so loud they could partly deafen anybody. A few shadows were following
in the distance, catching up with the van, which was speeding up dramatically.
The van thundered towards the court ahead, a large brick building with voices
chattering in the background. His van turned, squealing to a standstill in such
a way that the boot opened and the pets tumbled out of it; and after clanging
harshly onto the chains, which clattered the floor, all of the pets captivated
in the thick chain had fainted. The Chia, pleased, dragged the weak Shoyru and
the other injured pets into the court building, and walked briskly into the
courtroom to the judge's desk. An audience followed into the room, chattering
to each other. The officer cleared his throat and advanced to the judge's desk,
dragging the chain behind him. He bowed.
"Your Honour," said the Chia, "we have a few mischief makers in our town!"
"Have we?" the judge said, sternly. She peered over her glasses at the Chia
officer. The Chia looked up, startled. The judge was a large, stern-looking
yellow Aisha. Her uniform was of a dark blue shade, with a nugget of solid gold
on each shoulder end, a golden bracelet and necklace with a golden plate on
her desk. She started to speak loudly and grimly at the officer.
"I see," she began. "I have been having reports about a group of Shoyru with
a red leader, though those we have yet to catch and discuss the case with, the
cause of a massive disruption at our train station earlier today." She pointed
to Shoyru's team below, beside her desk. "This group managed to escape from
the blast. Just how can they have been causing trouble?" The judge tapped her
fingers impatiently at a few individuals in the background. "Silence!"
"They were intruders," he replied, quickly and worriedly. "They don't belong
in this town. And they were trying to get into the hospital despite my orders!"
"LIAR!" shouted an anonymous individual from one of the benches.
"SILENCE, OR I SHALL HAVE THE COURT CLEARED!" The judge pointed to one of the
pets on another bench. "We have a witness. Come to the front."
The Scorchio, who was in the group passing by Shoyru's team earlier on, stepped
nervously up to the desk.
"You must swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
Do you? Or do you not?"
"I do," it said.
"Right, you may proceed," she said, banging a block onto the desk to continue.
The Scorchio paused for a moment.
"It all started when I was hanging about town with my friends, walking past
the hospital I saw..."
"Don't you dare defy me!" bawled the Chia officer. The Scorchio gulped.
"Silence, Officer!" the judge boomed. "You may not continue until the witness
has finished! Witness, you may continue!" She thumped the block onto the desk.
"Now!"
"Er..." stammered the Scorchio "we saw the officer with a team of injured pets
in a chain, it looked like one of them was suffering from an unknown disease,
and..."
"Thank you witness," ended the judge, banging the block onto the desk. "That
will be all!" She turned to the officer, whose legs were trembling and coat
slipping off at the shoulders. The judge raised her voice at the Chia. She looked
very annoyed.
"DON'T YOU REALISE, OFFICER," she said furiously, banging the block again on
the desk and whirling it around at the Chia, "THAT YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO BAN
ANY PET WHATSOEVER FROM ENTERING A HOSPITAL, ESPECIALLY TO DIAGNOSE AND CURE,
WHAT IS SAID TO BE, A DEADLY FORM OF NEOMONIA?"
Everyone in the court were turning round at each other and holding their ears
and some falling with shock. The pets in the chain were still badly hurt.
"AND DO YOU NOT," continued the judge, acidly, "REALISE THAT THESE PETS ARE
IN MORTAL CONDITION? DO YOU NOT EVEN HAVE AN ID BADGE TO PROVE YOU ARE AN OFFICER?
EVERY POLICE OFFICER SHOULD HAVE IT! ALL THE TIME!"
The Chia looked down at the front of his coat and there wasn't a badge there.
He shivered so much he was shedding tears. He muttered darkly to himself that
his plan had failed. The judge pointed to the door.
"GUARDS! GUARDS!" she boomed. "GET THIS FRAUD OUT OF MY SIGHT!" Whereupon small
gangs of genuine Chia police guards with shiny badges grabbed the fake and dragged
him out of the building, kicking and screaming.
The judge calmed her voice a little more, then spoke again.
"Witness, you may leave. Everybody clear the court now! Shoo! Everybody out!
Leave the chained pets here, and as they are not guilty, they should be escorted
to hospital, and the sick Shoyru treated properly!"
After everybody had left, the Aisha, choking with a sore throat, fainted. Everyone
knew she was lying about the entire thing.
