The detective woke up to the sound of his phone ringing. Looking at his caller
ID, it was from Usukiland.
"Hello?" asked the detective. He expected to hear his good friend Usula, the
Usukiland's shopkeeper, but instead heard a disguised voice.
"Stop looking into this case. Beware, you will be in danger. Stop while you
can."
The phone clicked, noting that the phone was hung up. The voice was too hoarse
to note if it was male or female but Charles knew for sure it was the robber.
He decided to keep his guard high for fear the threat was not all talk.
The Jubjub stepped into a nice little NeoHome of Marcus the brown Meerca. He
followed Marcus into the kitchen.
"Hello Detective Charles. What is it that you want? Would you like a Vanilla
Milkshake or slice of Yam-Lime Pizza?"
"Oh no, I didn't come here to visit, but thanks anyway. I actually came here
to question you on a few things."
Marcus was quite taken aback. He didn't expect this. "Why, what for?"
"Well, a very rich Neopian citizen, Magycalmyst, was robbed last night at 8
pm. Where exactly were you?"
"Detective, you really don't think I did it? I don't even know this person!"
"Oh, I think you do. May I remind you Magycalmyst was the one that put your
cousin into jail. A very high motive to get revenge."
"Oh, yes. Hmm. Okay, I see your point. All right, last night, I was, I was..."
"Please cooperate with me now Marcus. Your looking very guilty indeed. Should
I arrest you now, or would you like to confess right now?"
"What? No! Wait! Okay, okay, I'll tell you, but your not an official cop, so
you can't arrest me for something that's not your case!"
"Okay, who is she?"
"Marissa the Speckled Usul. We were well....we were....making fake Wands of
the Air Faerie! Happy? I told you! Now get out of my house."
"Hmmm, not very good crime."
"We needed the Neopoints, we're really poor."
"You seem to have a nice NeoHome"
It's my cousin's I'm staying here for awhile, I have nowhere else to go."
"I'm sorry to here that, but I must report you to the Neopian Police."
"I know, but it's better than the crime you suspected me for, that's rich stuff
if it was stolen from Magycalmyst."
"Yes," said the Jubjub, "Yes, it is. Well, good-bye."
"Bye," replied the solemn Meerca."
Walking home, Charles decided to go to the Magic Shop. Making a U-turn, he
walked toward the Neopian Shops, thinking the impossible. There is only 1 suspect
left, Kauvara. Who would have ever thought? Kauvara kept a good cover. But she
was such a good friend. Why? Charles hated when cases came to this. To arrest
one his good friends should be a crime. Charles walked on slowly, his head bent
down with the horrible thoughts, that could only be true.....
The sad detective walked into the Magic Shop with the friendly bell ringing
that was tied to the door. He always liked that bell....too bad it would be
a long time to hear that bell again with Kauvara smiling back.
"Hello Charles, so nice of you to drop by....it has been a while....hung up
in cases, fighting evil? What's wrong, why do you look upset?"
He looked up at the concerned face....no way she would rob someone, even if
she did think that Magycalmyst stole some faeries. He was going to question
her all the same, but could not lead up to arresting her, no way.
"Hello Kauvara! Yes, I have been through some tough cases. On one right now,
not a pleasant one, but a tough one all the same."
"Oh, well, everyone knows that Detective Charles can solve anything."
"Hmmm, I'm not so sure with this one. I hate to say, but I have some unpleasant
news for you. You are a prime suspect."
"What? Me? Why? What for?"
"Well, Magycalmyst was robbed last night of many valuables. Also, her pet reported
that you were angry at her for thinking she stole some faeries.....I need to
know where you were last night at around 8."
"Oh goodness, okay.....I was at the Coffee Shop reading Magycalmyst's poem
that was published. Wonderful poem. Also, I don't think that she stole those
faeries. Tina, the coffee shop's shopkeeper, can prove that, I told her al about
it. "
"Excuse me? But her pet said..."
"Oh yes, sorry as I am, I did accuse her at first, she was at the wrong place,
wrong time. She caught the real thief, surely she would have her pet know that."
"Yes, I guess so. Hmmmm, but you are the last suspect, the others have proven
alibis. I don't understand...."
Then it hit him. Of course, he thought. But how to officially prove it? He
could........yes, he must. "Why couldn't I see it before?"
