Help Make Neopia A Better Place

by charmedhorses

YOUR NEOHOME - These days it seems like all everyone is interested in is making Neopoints so that they can buy a gigantic Neohome and paint there pets the most expensive color available. It saddens me to think that the people are more focused on themselves than Neopia as a whole. In fact, that is precisely why I have written this article: to enlighten you on some of Neopia's small problems that could easily be solved if people put a little care into it. They aren't huge things, but by tweaking yourself, your Neohome, and your community, you can make Neopia as a whole a better place.

Start With Yourself

An easy place to start is with yourself. Often times people and pets get so caught up in making Neopoints that they forget about your basic routines- eating, sleeping, and perhaps worst of all, bathing. This makes Neopia a much…smellier place.

If you find yourself forgetting some of these things, take some steps to remind yourself of them. For instance, if you haven't had breakfast all week, try getting it out the night before. That way, when you wake up, your breakfast will already be prepared and all you'll have to do is sit down and eat. After that, you can go on your merry little way and play all the games your heart desires.

If your problem is lack of sleep, you may find your temper easily aggravated. What fun would it be if the entire Neopian population was grumpy all the time? Neopia should be a happy place, where people are friendly to each other. In order to prevent a sleep deficit, my suggestion is to keep an eye on the time as you play games, shop, or whatever it is you like to do. Set a time limit and keep it. That way you'll be able to get home at a reasonable hour. Once you're at home and in bed, I recommend reading a good book or The Neopian Times for a little while to let your mind settle down. Then I think you'll find yourself ready for a good night's sleep.

Now let's discuss the problem of bathing. Let's be honest- no one can go a week without bathing. No, not even you. Sure, you can drown yourself in perfume, but eventually that dirty, sweaty smell will penetrate its way through again. And besides, do you really want to spend your hard earned NP on perfume? I didn't think so. Plus, you'll get to a point where it's not just the people and pets around you that smell that unmistakable stench-you'll smell it too. And believe me, it smells bad. So keep Neopia a better smelling place and don't forget your daily bath. It doesn't take that long to jump in the tub and scrub some soap on your weary body, so do everyone a favor and keep yourself clean.

Keep Your Neohome Tidy

Once you have yourself put together, move on to your Neohome. While it may appear a daunting task, you'll soon see that it's no harder than keeping yourself cleaned up. Think of it this way- your Neohome is just a big Neopet. It needs the same amount of grooming and attention as any member of your family. Now, now, don't go making any plans to sell your Neohome just yet. Hear me out, first.

Have you taken a good look around your neighborhood lately? Did you notice that the Neogardens on your block are looking a little bit overgrown these days? Well, number one on your list of things to do should be maintaining your garden. If you have one, that is. Your Neohome represents you, so you don't want it to look wilted and old do you? Take the time to cut back trees and plants and water those that look a little dry. It doesn't take that much effort and the end result is very rewarding. Just think, if everyone took a little time out of their busy schedule to clean up their Neogardens, your neighborhood would be a much prettier place!

After you've dealt with the outside of your Neohome, switch your focus to the interior. Is your Neohome cluttered and messy? Is there a layer of dust on all of your furniture? Yes? Well, then perhaps that's the answer to your mysterious sneezing. At the end of the week try collecting all of the toys and objects that you've deposited around your Neohome and putting them in their proper places. Then take a few minutes to run a cloth over your furniture. It really doesn't take that long and having a cleaner Neohome not only makes your Neohome look better, but it can give your mood a much needed lift as well.

Keep the Streets Clean!

I am extremely disappointed by what I've seen while walking through Neopia one quiet afternoon. I actually saw some loose papers fluttering down the road! I quickly dismissed it as some poor pet having dropped their homework, but was shocked when a few moments later I saw a crumpled up wrapper in the street. Could my fellow Neopians actually be littering? I certainly hope not! I detest littering. Why do you think there are garbage cans on every other street corner? For your garbage!!

If you really want to help make Neopia a better place, there are two very simple things that you can do that would make a huge difference. One, remember to put your garbage in a garbage can. (Hence the name.) And two, if you see a piece of garbage on the road take a moment to pick it up and deposit it in the nearest trash can. Every little bit helps.

Another thing I noticed was that the roads were not only littered, but also a bit dirty. This isn't surprising, as a great many pets walk on it every day, but it could still be helped. Try getting a group of friends together and cleaning up the streets. Take a bucket of water and a bar of soap, get down on your hands (or paws) and knees, and scrub!

Neopia Is Your Friend

Finally, remember that Neopia is your friend. Neopia is kind to you, so you should be kind to Neopia. Treat it with the same respect that you wish to be treated.

Author's Note: I would love to hear your thoughts on what you've just read. Please feel free to Neomail me!
