CHAT BOARDS - Today’s lesson is; how to get people to read your messages on
the chat board. Class is now in session.
The chat board. It is one of the most useful tools in Neopia. It is also one
of the best toys. But what if *gasp* no one will respond to your messages? Today
I will teach you how to make irresistible messages on the chat board.
PART ONE: The point of chat
There are two main groups of people on the message board. Type one is looking
for entertainment. Type two is looking to get something done. Actually there
are three types. Type three is looking to scare people and get their account
frozen. Lets concentrate on type one today since this is the main reason people
use the board.
PART TWO: Chose your board
Believe it or not there are actually sixteen different chat boards! Use them.
For example; if you want to tell everyone how your new guild is use the guild
board, if you want to talk about the Beauty Contest use the Beauty Contest board,
if you want to post a shop add… you get the idea.
Bear in mind however, that some of the boards; the fan club, other worlds,
newbie and help boards in particular; are pretty much the same as the general
chat board.
PART THREE: Chose your headline
This is what makes people decide whether or not they even want to look at
your board, so it had better be good.
Because you are using the chat board for entertainment its best to think up
the most incredibly weird head line possible. Something along the lines of;
I ATE FIVE LIVE TOADS YESTERDAY AND IT MADE ME SICK! Should do very nicely.
Remember though, it is a fine line between funny and disgusting. If you cross
the line not only will no one even glance at your message board you may have
your account frozen.
Of course you may want to meet new people. If your doing this, you can always
use the above method if you don’t mind the fact that your new friends will either
A. think you’re crazy or B. be crazy themselves.
A great way to meet new people is to (hold on to your typewriter) tell them
that you want to meet new people. This may sound kind of strange but believe
me it works.
You can even take this method a step further and say something like: Very
CRAZY rock collector looking for a pen pal. With this message you will not only
get a pen pal; you will get a pen pal who shares your interest in collecting
rocks! You can omit the ‘very crazy’ part if you wish but I don’t recommend
it.
Pity milking works very well for this sort of thing. If you make a board and
in title it: I am twenty years old and I play NeoPets for eighteen hours straight
24/7 365, then you will most definitely get a conversation going.
Talking about famous people, movies and events is a fun and rewarding way
to use the chat board. Here is another way to get people to read your message. Give it a title like:
FIRST FIVE PEOPLE TO POST HERE WIN A PRIZE!!! It works every time. Note: If
you use this method make sure you actually do give the first five people a prize
or they might get very angry at you.
Last but not least is the poll. Make the poll on a weird subject: POLL: DO
TOADS REALLY TASTE LIKE CHICKEN, for example. This will give you the desired
result if you are using the board for entertainment.
One more thing. If you see that ten people have boards saying something along
the lines of: My petpet died please comfort me. It probably wouldn’t be wise
to add another board on the same topic.
PART FOUR: HTML
The best way to get yourself noticed on the chat board is to add at bit of
colour to your messages.
To make a foot note to your message e.g. [sub]I am not crazy. I am insane[/sub]

To make your text glow with colour [glow c=orange w=500 s=2]TEXT[/glow] You

Make your text shadowy and mysterious [shadow c=black w=500 s=3]TEXT[/shadow]
You can change the colour, size and font of your text with this HTML [font

there are buttons on the message board which will give you the codes above so
you don’t have to memorise them.
While we’re talking about HTML I might as well tell you about emotions. Emotions
are little faces which, you can which you can use in your chats. Sorry but I can’t tell you how to make them… You have
to figure that out for yourself.
PART FIVE: Short forms
You can never put more then 255 letters in a message so you’re going to want
to use short forms. Short forms are very useful. You can shorten a 20-letter
sentence like: Why are you talking to me? Down to 11 letters by using short
form. Y ru takin 2 me?.
