NEOPIAN NEWS PAGE - People have been bringing their low costing Petpets to
the Turmaculus for a while now, without fear because, heck, they could just
buy another Puppyblew in a couple of days if he gets eaten. I mean, there was
really no reason not to (the benefits far outnumber the shortcomings) visit
the Turmy. But now something new has paved the way towards an even score.
The Petpet Protection League, or PPL as will be referred to in this particular
article, is a group of Neopets who are tired of watching brave Petpets fall
as the Turmaculus' lunch, or as so I infer. The gimmick, however, is that they
will pay NPs to those who keep their Petpets the longest. And they will provide
trophies to those special pets. Not bad in my opinion, just keeping a virtually
useless Petpet for a year could bring you a decent sum of Neopoints and perhaps
even a coveted trophy. Pretty good for the average Neopian who doesn't do anything,
I might add.
There has to be something here though. I mean, how many people do you see being,
gasp, generous these days? And just for keeping a Petpet? These guys are going
to have to pay some big candy to pay all these Neopians. Just keeping a simple
Puppyblew for 150 days earns you 1500 NPs, which isn't bad. However, how are
these guys going to manage it? I mean, think of how many people have Puppyblews
that are 150+ days old! Whoever is behind this is going to need millions of
NPs every week. Being that hardly any information is known on this mysterious
band of Neopets, I decided to go right to the source.
Being that there wasn't any source, and being that there was hardly any info
on the PPL period, I decided to go right to the trusty search engine. But since
after searching "Petpet Protection League" and watching nothing pop up, I decided
to go right to the source of these troubles: Meridell, more specifically: the
Turmaculus.
When I arrived, I noticed a Lupe sitting on a chair, observing Petpets becoming
the Turmaculus' lunch. He had a truly disgusted look on his face. I walked up
to him and asked if he was with the PPL, and he nodded his head as he quieted
me down. I asked him if we could do an interview, and he nodded his head a second
time as I pulled out my trusty notepad and pen.
Me: How did you form PPL?
Lupe: Well, I certainly didn't form it. I guess it started when one
Neopet, he wishes to remain anonymous at this point, was tired of seeing PetPets
being abandoned and, well, eaten. He then called together a group of Neopets
whom he had noticed had similar feelings, and we've been meeting for a while
at night. It took a little while for us to get organized, but I believe we have
a good program starting now.
Me: What made you want to join PPL?
Lupe: Hmm... tough Question. Well, I was pretty much satisfied with
how I, myself, was faring in the Neopian World, as my owner was in fact quite
rich. I guess I was looking for more in my life, and I'll say that PPL has so
far been very rewarding.
Me: What do you do at PPL?
Lupe: Well, we're not releasing huge details yet, but most likely what
you know now is all I'll be able to tell you. Basically, we make every week
a different Petpet's week. We then give 10 Neopoints to that specific Petpet's
owner, which could be tons of people, for every day that that Petpet has been
owned. We also give trophies to the owner's who've had their Petpet for the
longest amount of days. That's about all the information I can release to you
right now.
Me:: How did you and your colleagues come up with the money for this
large of a project?
Lupe: Now you're getting into real details. Let's just say that we run
mostly on donations from the money tree, who has already helped us out a lot.
However, many of us have wealthy owners and we used quite a bit of that money
as a start-up fund.
Me: Why did you try to quiet me when I had first asked you about PPL?
Lupe (After looking around for a couple of seconds): Well, you
see, we are supposed to remain pretty much unknown at this point, and I could
get in some trouble for this interview.
Me: I wouldn't want you to get into trouble so I'll wrap it up, but
I'd appreciate it if you could answer one final question.
Lupe: Shoot.
Me: Where did you get the chair?
Lupe: I borrowed it from the folks at Round Table Poker.
At that, I thanked him for his time, and bid him good luck. He nodded his
head and started looking back at the Turmaculus again. I had only walked a little
way when I heard the sound of another Petpet being eaten, but over time perhaps
I may hear less and less of this cruel action. If so, it would most definitely
be due to the help of PPL.
I left Meridell thinking that everything would soon be well again in Neopia,
but something, for some odd reason, still didn't feel completely right about
this strange organization...
