Recess was the same--lonely.
As the pets scrambled to get back in their seats, Mrs. Winburn was writing
something on the blackboard. SHOW AND TELL it read. Raquessa perked up.
Yes! she thought to herself.
"Okay, class, settle down," Mrs. Winburn calmly said. "Now it's time for...
Show and Tell! Who would like to go first...?" She scanned the room.
"Me! Me!" Raquessa jumped up and down.
The teacher giggled. "All right, Raquessa. What have you brought in?"
Raquessa walked to the coat rack. She rummaged around, tossing up a coat or
too. She finally found her box. She walked up to the front of the classroom.
The classroom seemed a lot bigger to her from this view.
"Um, uh, hi. My, uh, name is, uh," she stuttered. Somehow she'd forgotten her
name! "My name is, uh..." the pets stared at Raquessa, ready to throw all the
insults they could at her.
"Why don't you show us what you have brought in, dear," Mrs. Winburn said.
She nodded. "Uh, for Show and Tell, I brought in my new pet, Kitrina!" she
opened the box. Inside was a little Angelpuss, making a faint clicking noise.
The class made a long "oooo" at it.
"Wonderful, Raquessa! Isn't this the cutest little thing!" Mrs. Winburn slowly
pet Kitrina on the head.
"AAAIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!" Surprisingly, Kitrina jumped out
of the box and began to run around like a maniac! The pets screamed and hollered.
Raquessa was trying to find her Angelpuss but everything was topsy-turvy. Teachers
from outside were wondering what was all the fuss. Finally, a red Zafara had
snatched Kitrina by catching it in his lunch box. Raquessa looked around. Now
the room had a class of angry pets, scattered toys, and a teacher quivering
at the corner of the room.
For the rest of the day everyone called Raquessa "PetPet Torturer", even though
half of the teasers knew that all baby Angelpusses are paranoid when they are
touched.
When Justine asked Raquessa how was her day when she came to pick her up, all
she did was grimace at her owner. For the remainder of the night all Raquessa
did was cry; not even Coeurange felt like harassing her!
The next day, Raquessa entered Mrs. Winburn's class, still gloomy. Instead
of being with the mean Cybunny and Chia, the teacher put Raquessa with a new
student; a lonesome little green Usul. She too looked downhearted. Both paid
no attention of Mrs. Winburn teaching everyone the colours of the rainbow. When
it was time for drawing, Raquessa noticed that the Usul's picture of a tall
and beautiful Meerca with bright and vibrant colours.
"That's a really pretty picture," Raquessa commented.
"Thanks," the girl mumbled. "Why weren't you here yesterday?"
"Oh, well... I can't exactly read that well...and... by accident I went into
room 101, which is for 5th graders! The teacher just thought I was short, so
he let me in. I failed a math test, was laughed at, until someone read the note
my mom put in my lunch box saying she hopes I'm a good kindergartner! It was
SO embarrassing!"
To make the Usul feel better, Raquessa told her about her Angelpuss going on
a rampage.
"Hey! I have an Angel too! I call her Katrina," the girl said.
"Neat!" laughed Raquessa, "I call mine KITRina!"
The girls both swapped stories on how silly their Angelpusses were. Soon Raquessa
and Joy_Bells (the Usul) were giggling and colouring and talking.
Maybe it was because the Faerie Queen was there...or because it was the month
of Hunting...or maybe just because Mrs. Winburn had read My Buddy to the class...but
Raquessa and Joy_Bells became quick friends. All in all, Raquessa had a great
day.
