It's Hard Being Small: Part Four

by Strata_skywolf_200

Read this story from the beginning!

I tapped on the door to see if he would wake up, amazingly, he did. I didn't think Theo could hear in his sleep. He yawned, a big, long yawn and got out of his expensive looking little Aisha-sized bed. I poked my head it. "Theo, come here," I whispered and started to go down the stairs and back out the Aisha-door, he followed. "What are you doing here?" he asked. "Looking for you," I replied. "Why have you decided to become an owned pet?" I asked.

Before he could reply, I heard a noise. He heard it too. It was a friendly, but tired voice. It was saying, "Theo, where are you?" Suddenly the door burst open, right in front of us. "It's my owner," he said.

"I can see that," I said sarcastically. She looked down and saw me. I was about to run for it when, "Wait! Don't go!" it was the teenage girl. I stood there, and blinked. She looked at me for a while, then looked at Theo, and then back at me.

"Would you like to join us?" she asked, in her sweet, kind, gentle, tone of voice. "She's very nice," Theo told me, "her name is Allison."

I guess I could, but what about the gang? "It's okay little Aisha, come here," I looked up, into her big, wide, blue eyes. They sort of gave you a hypnotic pull. I took a step forward, but not a single one more! Would this mean I was turning my back on the gang? I could go visit them, at night, if she left the Aisha-door open. I could even bring them food! But would they still accept me if I was owned?

Oh, but how I missed having an owner! I'd thought about it on all those cold nights, when even the warmth of the other pets curled up beside me could not make up for a proper place to sleep; I longed for meals that would fill you up and didn't mean risking anything, and the warm hug of a loving owner... I suddenly realised that I really wasn't as suited to the life of a wild pet as I had thought I was.

Perhaps Allison noticed something in my expression at that moment; she scooped me up and took me inside. Setting me down on the floor, she said, "Please - stay here." I stayed. Theo and I sat and waited, wondering what was to happen. After a little while, Allison rushed back down the stairs. She picked me up again, whistled for Theo (it seemed she had already trained him to follow) and plopped me down in her bicycle basket. It was small, but cozy. "Theo, would you like some exercise?" she asked. Theo nodded, and ran along beside our bike enjoying the fresh air. I must admit he's fast. We arrived at the adoption agency and sooner than soon I was an officially adopted pet!

I've been living with Allison Randerlan - my owner - for quite some time now. Theo and I are probably the best cared for pets in town! And I no longer have to worry about where my next meal is coming from. being short doesn't matter, either--now that I'm a split Aisha, I stand out more! Of course, it seems a bit silly that I'm still called Sapphire--people have started calling me Saph, lately. Theo says it's a pet name, well, I am a pet!

I'm a very lucky pet; a pet with everything I could ask for... but I have my regrets. I don't miss my old life--not one bit! But I miss my friends in the gang... We haven't spoken since I was adopted. I think perhaps they don't want to come near me, in case they get caught. Maybe it's because they think I don't want to talk to them. I sometimes see them walk past the house, gazing in at the windows with what reminds me of the hungry longing I once felt when I was a wild pet... I think that, somewhere inside every pet, there is a longing for the kind of love that is found in an owner. I hope the rest of the gang will realise that too, some day. I'd like to tell them myself...

And the moral of my little tail (sorry, tale) is: It's hard, being small, but you'll get used to it! *Wink* *Some curtains open up and reveal the star of the story* This story is dedicated to Me! (Sapphire!)... Just kidding! Okay, this is actually dedicated to All the small NeoPets out there, with big personalities, and TAP, the original guild for Aishas everywhere. Are you sure I can't be in the dedication? *gets pulled off her little stage* Hey!! That's not faaaiiiirrrr....
