Ultimate Debate - One Use Items vs. One Use Per Battle Items

by ultralord

Some of these items cause some of the most damage than any other item in the Battledome, but once you use them, they are gone!

One time use items can be known as "cheap", "mean", or "evil" and many Battledomers ban them from their battles through their own personal rules. But when it comes down to it, they are awesome!!!! To make this article the clearest and developed I can, I have organised the items into 3 groups:

• One Use Items
• One Use per Battle Items
• One Time Use Creators

One Use Items

These items can only be used once, so once you use it they disappear!

Novas

Novas are the best all around one-use items. Not only do they attack, they heal your pet also! And one of them can even be used more than once per battle!! (NOTE: I say "novas" because there is more than one type!)

Nova: This is the most basic and weakest of all of the types of "novas". It does 3 icons of light and can heal 2-10 hp
Avg. Price: 2,000 NP

Supernova: This is a step up from the basic nova. It does 3 icons each of fire and light. It can heal 12-24 hp
Avg. Price: 2500 NP

Darknova: This does significantly more icons and healing than the past novas do. It does 5 Dark icons and 4 fire. Heals13-15 hp
Avg. Price: 20,000 NP

Ultranova: This is the ultimate nova ever! Not only does it do the most icons (4 fire, 4 air, 3 light) and can heal 15-40 hp, but you can sometimes use it more than once! (1-5 times)
Avg. Price: 9,000 NP

Clockwork Grundos

Clockwork Grundos do the most of 1 type of icons out of all of the 1 use Items in Neopia! All of the clockwork Grundos do 10-15 icons, except with different icons. (NOTE: Blue and Yellow Grundos are significantly cheaper than Red and Brown because they were given out as Advent Calendar items, but all Grundos can rarely be found in the Battle Magic shop)

Blue Clockwork Grundo - 10-15 air icons
Avg. Price: 1,500 NP

Red Clockwork Grundo - 10-15 fire icons
Avg. Price: 1,500 NP

Yellow Clockwork Grundo - 10-15 light icons
Avg. Price: 1,500 NP

Brown Clockwork Grundo - 10-15 earth icons
Avg. Price: 100,000 NP

Battlecards

There are 28 different types of Battlecards. They are given out in the game Cheat when you beat a certain level. They are arranged in 3 different colours: Red, Silver, and Gold (Red is the most common, Gold is the rarest). Since the Gold cards are generally pretty inexpensive (and the most powerful), I'll just list them (along with a couple of my other favourites):

Gold Capara Battlecard - 2 dark, 2 fire, 1 physical

Gold Little Timmy Battlecard - 2 earth, 2 fire, 1-2 physical

Gold Chuffer Bob Battlecard - 3 earth, 3 fire, 1-2 physical

Gold Spectre Battlecard - 4 dark, 5 fire, 1-5 physical

Gold 00 Hog Battlecard - 5 earth, 5 earth, 1-5 physical

Gold Brucey B Battlecard - 4 fire, 4 dark, 1-4 physical

Gold Kalora Battlecard - 4 earth, 4 fire, 1-4 physical

Gold Fernypoo Battlecard - 4 dark, 5 fire, 1-4 physical

Gold Branston Battlecard - 3 dark, 3 fire, 1-3 physical

Silver Spectre Battlecard - Does 5 water, 5 light. I like this because if your opponent uses the abilities sink or burrow they can only block half of the cards attack!

Silver 00 Hog Battlecard - Does 5 air, 5 light. I like this because if your opponent uses the abilities sink or burrow they can only block half of the cards attack!

Snowballs

These are without a doubt the cheapest of the one-use items in Neopia, and some are very good! I'll list the 4 most used ones:

Stone Snowball - This is the only snowball that doesn't have any water icons (other than Poison and Evil Snowball), and it can be compared to the Ummagine Battle Muffin. It does 6 earth and 1-6 physical icons.
Avg. Price: 8500 NP

Exploding Snowball - This is the only snowball that doesn't have any earth icons (other than Poison and Evil Snowball). It does 4 fire, 4 water, and 1-4 physical icons
Avg. Price: 250 NP

Snow Mudball and Sticky Snowball - These snowballs do the same icons but they might have different rarities and prices. They both do 5 water, 5 earth, and 1-5 physical icons.
Avg. Prices: 500 NP

Tiki Bomb: While this may be the rarest of all one-time use items (running at a price around 100,000 per bomb), it can be simply called the best. The Tiki Bomb is pure attack, doing . That is an awesome attack! Although most Neopians can't afford to keep buying Tiki Bombs and using them, there is an item created solely to create unlimited Tiki Bombs! (Tiki Bomb Bag, look into "Creators" Section)
Avg. Prices: 100,000 NP

One Use Per Battle

These items are considerably rarer than most one-use items because you can use these items once per battle! Once you use them they disappear, but next battle you can use them again!

Battle Potato: This was just given out as a Mystery Picture answer prize. There are about 500 in Neopia, and there is no other way to get them now (you can't get them through regular stores). They do 7-15 earth icons.
Avg. Price:170,000 NP

Ummagine Battle Muffin: This is almost exactly like a Stone Snowball, except you can use it once per battle. It does 6 earth icons and 1-6 physical icons!
Avg. Price: 250,000 NP

Ummagine Bomb: This is exactly like an Ummagine Battle Muffin, except you switch the earth icons with fire icons. So it does 6 fire icons and 1-6 physical icons!
Avg. Price: 400,000 NP

Caustic Potion: This does 5-6 earth icons. This is a favourite among many beginning Battledomers because it can also heal 1-5 hp! So this can be a great item for pets under 25 hp.
Avg. Price: 1,000 NP

Purple Blob Potion: This does 3 fire and 3 dark icons. This is rarer than a Caustic Potion so less people use it.
Avg. Price: 1,000 NP

Jhudoras Potion: WOW!! This is very, very rare! There have probably only been about 3 in Neopia, and at different times only one or two are on the Neopian Market (Auctions or Trading Post) This is given out right before the most sought after BD item ever (Wand of the Dark Faerie) and it can be thought of as a "mini-WODF".
Avg. Price: ???? (Possibly 2 to 10 million?)

One Time Use Item Creators

There are many great items out there that can actually create one-time use items for you to use during a battle! They are generally very expensive, but they can be a great investment if used properly.

Tiki Bomb Bag: This creates the famous 'TIKI-BOMB!!!". It can create one Tiki Bomb per turn when it is used, but it has a small chance of breaking for the battle. Avg. Price: 1.3 million NP. This used to be a favourite among many people who could afford its pretty cheap price of just of a million NP, although recently I have seen less and less of them in the Battledome and more of them trying to be sold. If you want one you should buy it now (you may find a deal and buy it for 200k-300k cheaper than in the Hidden Tower!)

Cement Mixer: This creates one Stone Snowball per round that it is used, but like the Tiki Bomb Bag it has a small chance of breaking for the battle.
Avg. Price: 900,000 NP. Popularity has dropped rapidly so you may be able to find a good deal for about 800-900,000 NP.

Snowball Machine: This says it can create "random Snowballs" for you each turn in the Battledome, and to some extent it does. But some snowballs have a higher probability than others to be created. The most common that it creates are icy snowballs, exploding snowballs, and snow mudballs.
Avg. Price: 1.8 million NP. In My opinion it's a MAJOR waste of NP, go get a Tiki Bomb bag or Spectres Battledeck instead.

Box of Clockwork Grundos: Dangerous! Imagine using this great item every turn in the Battledome! This creates 1-4 random clockwork Grundos for you each turn, and it cannot break! This is an awesome weapon, because in most cases your opponent cant block different clockwork Grundos the whole battle! It can create the two most common ones (yellow and blue), but also the red and brown which can be very deadly combos!
Avg. Price: 8 million. This item was and still is very popular. I doubt it if you'/l find anyone selling even 100-200k away from the price of this item.

Spectre's, Kalora's and Capara's Battledecks: All Battledecks create up to 3 random cards (per turn) in the Battledome, although the difference in prices comes from Spectre's Battledeck (worth about 1.2 million) has a higher chance of getting silver and gold battlecards compared to Kalora's (middlemost) and Capara's (cheapest)
Avg. Prices: 500,000 NP to 1.2 million NP

Wand of Nova, Supernova, Dark Nova, and Ultranova - All of these wands each create 1 of the different novas they are named after (Wand of Nova can ONLY CREATE NOVAS, IT CANNOT CREATE ANYTHING ELSE) These wands have the greatest chance of breaking (compared to the rods and staffs), although I have used a Wand Of Ultranova once for more than 200 times before it broke! Avg. Prices: 70,000 NP to 300,000 NP

Staff of Nova, Supernova, Dark Nova, and Ultranova - All of the "nova" staffs are the exact same compared to the wands except for two things:

1. They have a lesser chance of breaking than the wand
2. Sometimes the may create 2 "novas" instead of one

Avg. Prices: 120,000 NP to 950,000 NP

Rod of Nova, Supernova, and Dark Nova - These are the ultimate versions of the "nova" creators! All of the rods are so powerful, they have to be in the Hidden Tower! None of them can break like the wands or staffs, and they also:

1. Heal a certain amount of hp (depending on the rod 15-50 hp)
2. Create 3 "novas" of the certain type of rod
3. Defend against certain icons
4. Have a small attack (a couple icons of attack)

Avg. Prices: 4 million to 14 million (NOTE: There is NO Rod of Ultranova)

FAQ

Why isn't there a Rod of Ultranova?
This is a big question that comes up a lot, and it basically comes down to the power of the Ultranova itself. An Ultranova is VERY powerful compared to the rest of the "novas". It heals the most, does the most damage, and also can be used more than once. If there was a Rod of Ultranova it would have to create 3 Ultranovas (with luck they could all be used for a total of 15 turns), attack with at least once icon of all of the icons of an Ultranova (an Ultranova does 9 icons, so it would have to do at least 5) and again it would heal.

This item would be FAR TOO POWERFUL for most Neopians, so it is safe to just have a staff (If there really was one a fair price would be around 50 million in my opinion). But for now you can still use the staff of Ultranova (which can create two Ultranovas if you are lucky)

If Ultranovas are so good, why do Dark Novas cost more?
You can find both the Nova and Supernova in the Battle Magic Shop when it restocks, but you can find the Ultranova and the Dark Nova ONLY in the Battle Attack shop. Ultranovas stock more than Darknovas, so while Ultranovas may be a better item, Dark Novas are rarer.

So what items are perfect for me?
As I say with all of my Neopian Times articles related to the Battledome: "It all depends on your personal Battledome Strategy". Do you take a purely economic approach (basing your strategy on the cheapest weapons)? A healing and attacking approach ("novas")? Or do you simply just want to do the most damage (Tiki Bombs, etc.)?

What's better? One Time Use Items or 1 use per Battle Items?
Again basing it on my quote: "It all depends on your personal Battledome Strategy", it is all up to you. 1 use per battle items can be very expensive, but if you battle a lot they can be a great investment saving you time (having to keep re-buying items) and NP. But with One Use Items you have a greater choice of items to buy and a greater choice of icons to use.

What Items Do You Use?
I am gaining more and more NP per day based on restocking, so I will probably begin to search for some One-time Use Creators (maybe TBB, Spectre's Battledeck) but for right now I usually equip either:

1. Water Muffin and Radioactive Muffin (great because neither one can be fully blocked by the abilities sink or burrow)

2. Wand of Ultranova or Staff Of Ultranova

Even though the WOU and SOU have a chance of breaking, I love the Ultranovas themselves (my favourite One time use item!), so I keep buying more (I love to use a Dual WOU combo!). The Muffins are great for when one of my WOU's unfortunately breaks! (then I buy another one!)
