Tried Neomail? by relationshipper | |
NEOPIA CENTRAL - Many Neopians that have access to the Neopets Chat Boards
have discovered it is a great way to communicate. I am definitely a fan of the
Chat Boards, and of course, Help
Chat. There are plenty of friendly people and help too, if you need
it. Also you can share your advice with other players that need help. If help
chat is not your cup of tea, you can always check out one of the many other
Chat boards Neopets has so kindly set up for us to use, whether it's role-playing
you are into, or talking about the Battledome. So, everything is all good, right?
Maybe not...
Something most disturbing has been sneaking up upon chatters for quite some
time and now, it has now surfaced. The reign or short, pointless, and personal
conversation boards on the Neopets chat boards are just getting to a point where
it is unbearable. You can call it spam, or give it more fancy titles, but either
way, it basically is nuisance and it is time to put a stop to it! I have only
taken the time to observe this on the Help Chat board where I am mostly, but
I am sure this does not only affect the Help Chat.
For a brief introduction, spam can in defined many ways. But basically it
can vary from short pointless such as *pokes (insert your friend's username here)*
every two minutes, to those annoying chain-posts which falsely promises you
will receive a free paint brush if you copy and paste the messages on ten different
boards (which by the way, will most likely not get you a paint brush, but you
might find an eye pleasing warning on the way to your inbox...) to inconsiderate
people posting their Beauty Contests ads on the wrong board.
It seems many have forgotten Neomail, an awesome internal feature on Neopets!
It's easier to use then e-mail, and if you need the most convenient link it
is right here. Neomail
could simply replace a lot of boards on the Neochat board instead of seeing
a pool of junk boards. Some people wonder why they should bother to use Neomail,
since the chat boards are there to use for your chatting purposes. First
off, for those people that think so, let me just remind you that you don't own
the chat boards. It is everybody's! Keep in mind there are other people there,
not just you and your friends. These are just some points and things to ponder
before you hit that Create Message Board button, they may not all be spam, but
may fit into the category of annoying
1. Have you made enough boards already?
2. There is no need for 'Hey (friend's username), come to my trades
I have a present for you.' It may not be annoying for you or your friend, but
to a lot of others, it is! Your friend might not even be looking at the chat
board at that time, what if they went off to play a game? See, Neomail is usually
much more effective.
3. If you have a personal conversation or a message to get across to
just a few or one person, try Neomail, or an instant messenger if possible.
4. If you made a board already to chat with your friends, keep chatting
on the same message board! If the dozens of messages are getting to be a burden
on your computer, try Chat mode instead of the normal mode you are chatting
in by default, which will only show the newest 10 posts. The average message
boards lasts about one to two hours at least, unless it gets deleted.
5. Is there a better board in which to post your subject on? Shop ads
for example, belong in the Shop ads board (simple logic, huh?).
6. Did you make a board about the same topic already? If you are going
to put "Please rate my pets", there is nothing wrong with that, but post the
same thing a few more times, and people will think you're showing off, plus,
they've probably seen it already! How repetitive...repetitive...repetitive...
7. Oh yes, no need to ask, "Has anyone seen me around?" Honestly, a
lot of people dislike boards like those and it just makes you seem like you
are looking for attention, or are some sort of chat celebrity, even if that
was not the intention.
8. Bragging is not nice. No one needs to know about your shop till or
your 10th Baby Paint Brush you bought. Enough said.
9. Does everything you are about to post abide by the Chat
Rules or the Terms and
Conditions (the seemingly forgotten by many Neopets players page)?
You can probably tell, in many cases it is best to use Neomail However, many
people have not discovered that. I don't blame them. Neochat is a fun
way to chat with your all your friends, but it gets to be almost a private chat
forum, that is just tedious.
Remember, what comes around, goes around. Maybe you won't find the river of
those spamalicious boards annoying now, but in the future you might, and you
will regret it for not doing something about it, even encouraging it. Even as
one player, you can make a difference. If there is a board you think doesn't
belong, you can always post and kindly tell the board creator to try to use
Neomail if possible. There is such a thing as a Neomail ban, and some people
do block Neomail, but most of the time, Neomail is not a problem. I hope more
people will take more time to considerate whether or not a board should be made
before they made it, and take advantage of Neomail So go rediscover Neomail
if you wish to, and feel free to Neomail me any feedback! |
