Short on Time?

by bluescorchio104

TRAINING SCHOOL - I, like some other Neopians, find themselves with not much time to spare. I only get around 1-2 hours of Neopets a week! That's pretty little compared to some other Neopians, who get to go on Neopets every day. One of my acquaintances only gets 1-2 hours on Neopets a week, like me, yet she has managed to accumulate over half a million Neopoints worth of paint brushes, Petpets, stock market shares, and of course, good old Neopoints. This article is especially good for all those people out there who have limited Internet hours per month or week, etc. Over my time in Neopia, I've found ways to make the most of my time on Neopets. Here are my top six ways to save time on Neopets.

1. Organise yourself
Organisation has saved me heaps of time on Neopets. One good example of organisation is to compile a list of things you need to do before you access the Internet. For instance, one of my lists would look like this:

Find out price of Spotted Paint brush
          Neomail friend
          Give friend Faerie Quest item
          Visit ____'s shop
          Cash in Neggs at Neggery
Find out information for next Neopian Times article
          Battle Fire Meerca

This way, you won't waste time randomly wandering around Neopia trying to remember what you were supposed to do. Many a time I've disconnected from the Internet, then realised that I've forgotten to do a certain task.

2. Do things offline
This is perhaps my greatest time saving tip. I personally always load the Neopian Times, then read it offline. I used to play games offline, to practise and improve my skills, but unfortunately, the new game system makes it impossible to play offline any more. However, I still practise the Neggsweeper (by playing Minesweeper, obviously). Another game you can practise offline is Sakhmet Solitaire, by playing the normal solitaire. Both Minesweeper and Solitaire come standard with Windows, and if you don't have Windows, you can always play solitaire the old-fashioned way- with a little patience and a deck of cards. Poogle Solitaire is completely different from Sakhmet Solitaire, but you can still practise it when offline. All it takes is one of those solitaire sets, complete with marbles (representing Poogles) and a wooden board. You can also play most of the card games on Neopets (i.e. Go!Go!Go!, Round Table Poker, Jubjub Blackjack, Cheat!, etc.) with a few friends. Composing Neomails is also great to do offline, to save your Internet hours for more important tasks. Once the Neomail is composed on Word, or Publisher or whatever, it's a simple matter to cut and paste. Even designing your NeoHome on a scrap piece of graph paper could save you time. If I didn't plan where furniture went in my NeoHome, I'd probably spend quite a large chunk of my time just shifting furniture around, to see which layout looked best.

3. Bookmark pages
This is especially beneficial for Neopians with slow or average modems. For instance, to access the Stock List, you have to go to the Games page, then to the main Stock Market page, then to the Find Stocks page, and have to click on See all Stocks link, which finally leads you to the Stock List. Alternatively, you could just bookmark the Stock List. See how much faster it is? This way, you don't have to load all those unnecessary pages.

4. Open up a few windows (but not too many)
This tip is obviously a proverbial double-edged sword. Even though more windows will save you time, it will also slow your computer down. I recommend that you find your perfect balance between the amount of windows and speed, to provide the most benefits. I usually have around four windows open at a time. If you're into quests (Snow Faerie, Jhudorah, Esophagor, Faerie Employment Agency etc.), keep one window at the Shop Wizard, especially if the quest needs to be finished in a short amount of time.

5. Type only when necessary
This is only a time saver if you can't type very fast, like me. When stocking your shop, have one window open at the Shop Wizard, and one window open at your shop. You can then just copy and paste the name of the item to be sold into the Shop Wizard to find the lowest price, and price your own items accordingly. This comes in ultra-handy when you're pricing items with long names like Sausage and Pepperoni Omelette or Strawberry Fields Forever Paint brush. This copy and paste technique is also useful when doing a Kitchen Quest, Snow Faerie Quest or Brain Tree/Esophagor Quest.

6. Log on efficiently
By logging on at an off-peak time, when not that many users are using Neopets all at one time, you'll find pages load faster, and it's easier to buy stuff from shops. You'll be able to find off-peak times in various Neopian Times articles, but I find logging on 4 am to 12 PM NST works pretty well.

Well I hope that this article has introduced new concepts and helped you save time, and if not, well, that's tough. Thanks for reading!
