Pick Your Own by blazewolfpup | |
MERI ACRES FARM - As I clicked on the News button on the yellow sidebar on
the 23rd of August, and scrolled down, looking for any exiting new things, my
eyes landed on the yellow Gelert farmer, with an old-looking boot and some berries
underneath it. The paragraph above it explained that Meridell once again had
a new game - Pick
Your Own! Mildly interested, I clicked on the link, wondering what this
new game was about. The Gelert farmer, obviously the owner of Merri Acres -
the farm where the game is played at - welcomes you as soon as you arrive, plus
there are some rules to read through, explaining what the game is about and
what to do.
Pick Your Own is a game where you are given a basket and a free roam of Merri
Acres, and are able to pick six berries in twenty steps. It costs 200 NP , though,
and you are only able to play it once a day. At first look, the first thought
to go through my mind was, "Whoa! Cool!" and straight away I clicked ahead,
eager to 'Pick My Own'.
The set-up of Pick Your Own is simple - an area of, I think, 3x4, with different
coloured berry patches in each. You move around by pressing the red arrows on
each side of the square you currently are on, and by clicking somewhere on the
screen, you may be able to find a berry to add to your basket. If you don't
like the berry you found, you can always discard it by clicking on the picture
of it in your basket. The only penalty of this is you are automatically teleported
back to your original starting point.
If you're lucky, you could get a good berry, like a Mortogberry or a Loveberry.
If you're unlucky, like the majority of us are, you could get something worthless
(except to you Grarrl and Skeith owners!) such as a Bit of Barbed Wire or a
Pile of Dung. At the moment, to me, the point of this game is unknown - if you
want food, you could more easily just buy some Omelette or other cheap foods.
But, I guess, some people might have more fun with it than I did. Oh well...
For your information, I have a list of all the Berries and Items you can gather
from Pick Your Own. If I've missed any, well, it happens. Anyway...
| Berries |
|
|
| Eyeballberry |
Sniddberry |
Super Juicy Berry |
| Fishberry |
Nutritional Blockberry |
Mortogberry |
| Pusberry |
Sniddberry |
Red Chiaberry |
| Conkerberry |
Rotten Berry |
Loveberry |
| Purple Felberry |
Half-Eaten Berry |
Voidberry |
| Objects |
| Bit of Barbed Wire |
| Pile of Dung |
| Old Boot |
| Piece of Wool |
A few of these, all the Objects plus a couple of Berries, do absolutely nothing
at all. So, this is basically just a game to get a few cheap food items that
you could probably snag for a cheaper price elsewhere, plus some junk to donate
or discard. When I first put my original berries in my shop, everything was
worth over the 2000 NP mark. Now, you'll be happy to know that you can by most
for 50-200 NP or so - if you even wanted them in the first place.
By the looks of things, the Neopets Staff added this just for
another pointless Meridell game, once again based on food. Who knows why...
Personally, I don't like this game all that much, although it is largely preferable
over Potato
Counter, even though Potato Counter gives more of a NP boost.
A tip, do you want? Well, I think the berries and where you find them are
completely random. Although, I've found that the more rare berries are found
up two squares from where you first start off - although that could just be
me. Up there, I've found a Fishberry, Eyeballberry, Pusberry, Conkerberry, and
a Purple Felberry, and NO junk berries/objects. It might be luck... or, it could
be this is the field most should stay at. Maybe someone else could test my theory,
and Neomail me the results? Other tips... erm, I've found that near the Farm's
shed/cottage thing, you are more likely to pick up a useless object than a berry.
Can someone else confirm that, too?
All in all, I'd give Pick Your Own a 6/10, mostly because I like the idea
of going out to pick berries. If the Neopets Staff could somehow make it more
interesting, I'd give it a larger score. I love the graphics, which are good
for a HTML game, but then again, most-to-all graphics on Neopets are great.
Thanks for reading, and feel free to Neomail
me with results of the Berry-area tips, reviews, and any ideas for other articles.
Also, I'd like to thank _secret_rainbow_
for giving me the idea of writing this article. Oh, and thanks to all who reviewed
my
last article, please do so again! |
