Outlandish Pricing by abluestar | |
THE NEOPIAN MARKETPLACE - Upon stumbling aimlessly into the immensely treaded
region known as the Shop Wizard, one might be stunned at the somewhat saddening
jump of one price to the next. I really do hope that this article sheds some
importance on pricing, and why it is so fragile to the overall condition of
inflation.
First off, of course we all want to have the cheapest price on the Shop Wizard.
If someone goes below you in price, well your first thought is to jump right
under them! But who doesn't? We all want to sell as quickly as possible. But
this is the part you must thoughtfully consider. How much of a price difference
is too much?
Let's use the item "Cheesy
Ruler" as an example for this. At the time this article was written,
the lowest Cheesy Ruler price was 30,000 Neopoints*.
But on closer investigation in the Shop Wizard, one finds that there is in fact
not as many Cheesy Rulers for sale as you may think. The price jumps from 99,999
Neopoints, to a dumbfounding 70,000! That is a grand total of 29,999 Neopoints
that the person selling for 70k loses! Unfortunately, it gets worse from here.
The price of 70k for the ruler, has a Cheesy Ruler right beneath it for 50k!
That's a large 20,000 Neopoints lost! But it just can't stop, it has to take
another giant leap down to 30k, and that is where we stand as of today.

Worth it?
That means on average, these owners selling the Cheesy Ruler are losing 20,000
Neopoints Why can't people price a few Neopoints under the one above them? Even
a few hundred? Well, at that time, the item may not be in demand. And one does
get impatient. But that isn't to say that absolutely no one is going to purchase
it. There is always someone in the market for the particular item you are selling,
and when you may walk away feeling wealthy, you could have been wealthier.
The Cheesy Ruler isn't the only item going through such a negative ordeal.
When I am using the wizard to buy something, I notice a huge price difference
between numerous items, and many times, there aren't many of these items in
the first place.
We could all walk away richer if we worked together to keep pricing somewhat
sane. If someone has an item priced at 90k, and you have one also, sell it for
89k! Yours will most likely sell first, and you won't be I hope everyone keeps
this in mind, and as a result, we see improved pricing.
