My Kiko and I live in a bad part of town. We live in the dumpy part of Haunted
Woods. I occasionally walk to Neopia Central to visit the PetPet shop, for my
Kiko doesn't like SPOOKY PetPets.
"C'mon Kiko, it's almost midnight," I said as we walked on the narrow path
from Neopia Central.
"Sorry, but I hear something following us," Kiko wailed as he trudged down
the path.
I felt sorry for my Kiko. I wasn't the richest NeoPet owner in Neopia. That
is why we live in a shabby run-down cardboard house. He has lived there all
his life. The sad thing was, Kiko was afraid of ghosts. I looked at him to see
how he was doing. He shivered as he took some strides up to me.
"Kiko," I said meekly. "Am I a," I hesitated, "a bad owner?" Kiko looked at
me with tears in his eyes.
"It would be nice if we had a little bit more NP," he said quietly, not trying
to hurt my feelings.
My eyes swelled up. My younger brother has four NeoPets with no money. Since
my mother and father were off some where in Tyrannia, I had to support him,
causing us to be poor.
I glanced at Kiko and Kiko glanced back. We walked the rest of the way not
talking.
When we got home, I set up my dung bed and I got into bed. Kiko slept on the
floor. I shut my eyes, for it was a long walk, and before I knew it, I was well
asleep.
That night I was woken by a sudden yelp.
"Din," Kiko said in a shaky voice. I bolted up out of bed.
"Look over there," Kiko said as he pointed to the corner. My mouth gaped open.
It was the Brain Tree. It's brain was glowing and it's bark was shedding off.
"I see you have discovered OUR little secret," the Brain Tree said in a mocking
tone. I looked puzzled but I was too scared to say anything.
"As you know," the Brain Tree continued. "I thirst for knowledge. Knowledge
is the sole support of my life. But now at these bad times," he said looking
out the window at the mansion across the street that was taking over the Haunted
Forest, "I am deprived of that knowledge. The rich people across the street
are trying to start a stock building here. They put walls around me so no one
could see me, for they thought that I was ugly, and the stock Chia would not
like me." The Brain Tree looked down at his silted stump. "One day, they cut
me down, and you moved in. Young little Kiko looked as happy as I was once,"
The Brain Tree said. "I didn't like Kiko. But I knew something that he did not.
I planned to scare him into taking knowledge from others and giving it to me.
But my little friend has not done that very well now has he," the Brain Tree
roared as he looked at Kiko.
I looked at Kiko and said, "So that was what made him so nervous all the sudden."
I kissed Kiko and said to the tree, "But why did you uproot yourself and come
here?" The Brain Tree laughed.
"If I will perish I want someone else to perish with me." The tree drank one
of Dr. Sloth's potions and transformed into a hideous monster.
"Hahaha. Now I am more powerful than ever," and with this he flung himself
at us. We dodged his blow nimbly and ran out of the house.
The Brain Tree chased after us with speed. All the sudden he stopped. His
brain was shrinking.
"No, he said. I'm not feeling so great," and with that he grabbed Kiko and
said, "and you are coming with me." He took out a poison dart and took aim.
I thought what to do. Suddenly, I found a Codestone on the ground and threw
it at him. I knocked him out without hurting Kiko.
Later, I sold the codestone for 5,000 Neopoints. Kiko was happy too, for he
conquered his fears of the Brain Tree.
