The Neo-Market Report

And now, the time has come to drop in on Neopia’s leading economic forecasters. Visiting Neil and Maria this week will be Shelton the Mynci, who’ll be here to discuss the recent success of Mynci Banana Imports. Now, here are our hosts…

KAUVUTO: Hello and thank you for joining us this week at The Neo-Market Report. I’m your host Neil Kauvuto, Financial Editor of The Neopian Times, and as always it brings me great pleasure to introduce my co-host, the lovely and talented Maria Blumaroono, who joins us today from the floor of the exchange. Maria, what’s the latest news?

BLUMAROONO: Well Neil, after last week’s post-crash rally, it looks like the economy has returned to its slumping ways. With the Neodaq dropping thirty-one points this week, it appears as if the current slowdown may last a little longer than originally anticipated. Leading the way among those taking a hit is Skeith Bodyguards, whose stock plummeted amid rumours that the company’s security guards would be forming a union and demanding a 15% pay raise. When asked about the possibility of his security guards unionising, Skeith Bodyguards Chairman Butch Skeithness was quoted as saying, “I don’t understand the whole union thing. Even if we gave them a raise, all the extra money we’d be paying wouldn’t go to the security guards, but straight to the union, in the form of membership fees and monthly dues. In the end, the security guards are risking their jobs, but getting almost none of the benefits. But hey, if that’s what they wanna do, then that’s up to them…”

KAUVUTO: Another company continuing to lose money has been Faerie Clothing Ltd., whose stock dropped another nine points a share this week. This marks the third straight week that Faerie Clothing has posted a loss, cutting the company’s value by thirty-six NP in less than a month. Despite claims by Faerie Clothing President Donna Kougran that the failure of her latest line of winter wear is due to Neopia’s slumping economy, “Neo-Style” Fashion Editor Jamirah von Poogledorff sees things differently, stating, “Faerie Clothing’s winter line didn’t flop because of the economy; there are other clothing lines that have come out recently and, in comparison, done quite well. Their line flopped because Donna Kougran is out of touch with mainstream Neopian society. All her fashion ideas are old and out-of-style, not to mention terribly expensive. She needs to pay attention to what everyday Neopians are out there wearing, not what is ‘hip’ or ‘trendy’ among her tiny circle of elitist friends.”

BLUMAROONO: Well, one company that has done well recently is that of today’s guest. As the CEO of Mynci Banana Imports, Shelton the Mynci has totally restructured the way that his company does business, and in the process turned Mynci Imports into one of the hottest companies on The Big Board. Shelton, we’re glad you could take time from your busy schedule to join us today…

SHELTON: I’m glad to be here, Maria. I’m a big fan of The Neopian Times, and I never miss The Neo-Market Report… you guys are my favourite.

BLUMAROONO: Why, thanks. Now, before you became CEO, Mynci Imports wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire… tell us about the changes that have been made since you assumed control of the company.

SHELTON: Well Maria, I couldn’t have done it alone. May I remind you that, at Mynci Imports, we’ve got ourselves a motivated team, who put product quality and customer satisfaction first. I think that, in all the hype about my accomplishments, folks tend to forget about the hundreds of employees who make it all possible, day in and day out.

I believe that, in the past, we had the right people…they just weren’t being used the right way. So during my time as CEO, a big part of my job has been to figure out how to maximise our work force; to make them more efficient, and in turn, make us more productive. Once our employees became more productive, I had to figure out a way to take the most advantage out of that new productivity.

KAUVUTO: So, is this is when you decided to start offering all these new products and services?

SHELTON: That’s correct. In our minds, we knew that we were no longer the Mynci Imports of the past. We knew that the new Mynci Imports was capable of newer, better, more dynamic things. So at that point, I decided that we had to get out there and really dazzle our customers, give them things that they had never imagined in their wildest dreams. So now, not only are we able to deliver an order of Peachpas from Mystery Island to a customer in, say, the Haunted Woods… but we're able to do it in less time than anyone would think possible. But you see, that’s only the beginning for us. I assure you that, over at Mynci Imports, we’re only getting started…

BLUMAROONO: Well, that’s all the time that we have today. For Shelton the Mynci and Neil Kauvuto, this is Maria Blumaroono saying thank you, and so long….
