MERIDELL - Meridell, or known to some as 'The Land from the Past', or 'The Land
of Heroes and Legends', is a place where warriors once roamed and are possibly
still roaming as we speak, or read. And will probably continue to do so into the
future and beyond come to think of it.
There are many things to do in Meridell, yes many, and I have taken it upon
myself to tell you about all those amazing games (they are aren't they?), the
activities and the shops, as well as the Great Castle. But more of that later,
though…
Firstly, details about our medieval village, Meridell. Meridell is situated
on mainland, and is one of the closest worlds to Neopia Central. Meridell has
lush green grass and neat little lanes that run along to all the many places
that you can visit and go to.
So now get set, as we explore the Land of the Past, from almost every perspective.
Yes, almost every perspective, as I haven't been able to talk to everyone
around here. Some are nice, but some just refuse to wake up.
Shape Shifter: You enter Meridell in the south, with the castle guarding
the road. And possibly the first thing you see is a neat board laid out on the
grass with all sorts of interesting looking shapes, yep, you guessed right,
Shape Shifter. And what better way to start your day with a nice game of puzzles,
it really is a good game you know! Here a nice Ixi runs this mind-boggling game
involving shifting shapes and such to create the final outcome, but I'll leave
the rest for you to find out.
Here's what this Ixi has to say:
"Do you like puzzles? Well if you do, you should like this game... I will
start you off with some practice puzzles and then you will really start to be
challenged!!!"
Sound like fun? Well if it does then start your trip off with that, if not
well there's always something else to do in Meridell.
Ye Olde Petpets: Continue up the lane a bit and you pass the Meridell
Petpet store; where cute little creatures are sold to Neopians like yourself
so that you can put it to be played with by your Pet. Well, that's what I say
at least, the owner would prefer to call it the shop that sells:
"Cute little critters that'll just love to be your Neopet's friend!"
It's nice to have someone else's view once in a while isn't it?
Merifoods: This place was recently shadowed by the Darigan Citadel
and wasn't able to sell foods. But now once order is temporarily restored, 'Merifoods'
is now open again and Meridellians or Neopians such as you going on a trip can
now purchase some delightful snacks.
These great foods can also be purchased to satisfy your Pet's hunger. That
is of course if it likes a medieval edge on it, but it wouldn't hurt to try
some Aubergine Surprises, or perhaps some Sludge Pie?
Illusen's Glade: Now if you keep going along the road, and on past
the Merifoods shop, and then head up the hill, you will come past the every
mystifying 'Illusions Glade'.
"I've been living in Meridell for years now, it's so peaceful and serene (and
I get to be as far away from those Dark Faeries as possible!) Anyway, I have
a couple of jobs that you may be interested in," says Illusion. So from reading
that you understand that it's just like a normal quest. And if your feeling
up to it why not help out, but of course if you don't want too then that's settled
in some way.
Cheeseroller: Weeeee! It's Cheeseroller! And it once was the 'New Craze
Sweeping Neopia' and it really is fun you know, all you need to do is purchase
a cheese of some sort and then roll it down the hill. It's not that simple,
though…
Turmaculus: Once you've run down the hill and finished rolling cheeses,
head over to the Giant Turmaculus. And it's all right you know, there's no need
of being scared of waking him up, as chances have it that the Turmaculus rarely
does wake up.
But if you do manage to wake him up, of rather your Petpet does wake him up,
that is an added bonus. Want to try your luck? Or perhaps the ability to make
noise while people are sleeping?
Meri Acres Farm: Hmm, I suppose a whole day could be spent here, but
so what. I'm not here for that, it's up to you and your Pets, and I suppose
your Petpets too, to decide where you're going. Anyway, Meri Acres Farm is what
I'm up to.
Here, there are many games that you can play, and most of them involve vegetables.
Is that good? Or Bad?
Potato Counter: As you enter Meri Acres, you will pass a small patch
of land on your left, which is covered in Potato's. The game: Potato Counter.
Simple really, just count the potatoes and if you get the right amount you win
some Neopoints.
Pick Your Own: Do you prefer the smell of freshly picked fruit? Well
maybe this is your type of thing, because here a large area has been dedicated
just to those people. Just grab a basket and away you go, searching for your
very own berries, or perhaps piles of dung if that's your preference.
Tower of Turnips: Have you always wanted to be a builder or an architect?
Well a good place to start would be to stack turnips into towers each day, until
you get the idea of balance and construction.
The game is simple; stack turnips into towers, just visit the turnip patch
at Meri Acres for more details.
Extreme Potato Counter: This is a kind of 'More features than the previous
game' type of thing; basically it's the ordinary Potato Counter. But, with a
few added features this has been made into the one an only 'Extreme Potato Counter'.
The prizes are a bit more rewarding and it is either much more fun than the
first 'Potato Counter', or this new style of counting potatoes in even worse
than you expected it to be. The choice: entirely up to you.
Guess the Weight: Guess the Weight of the Marrow is the last and probably
not least game that you can play at Meri Acres. The huge Marrow lies next to
a small pond, and is there for people like you to guess its weight.
This is the biggest Marrow ever grown around Meridell, and possibly even the
whole of Neopia! Each day there is a daily guessing competition of the biggest
marrow grown on the farm each day.
It's very easy, but just make sure you don't turn up too early or too late!
Bare in mind that the Marrow has to be carried all the way from the Marrow farm,
and the largest one is always sure to pack a fight!
Yep, that's Meri Acres, so now you can head back to Meridell by following
the road, the one that has a sign with 'Back to Meridell' on the roadside.
Ultimate Bullseye: Once out of Meri Acres and back on your way, you'll
probably pass the sleeping Turmaculus again, and then you'll pass a road that
leads towards a ring with a big Bullseye in the middle.
If your still wondering what in Tyrannian Flotsams this is, then walk a little
bit further and you'll see the sign, 'Ultimate Bullseye'.
"At last, Bullseye is back!!! You have ten shots to try and hit the bullseye
in this medieval game of skill and timing!"
Hopefully that'll clear your doubts, if not well here's a bit more:
"Use the up and down arrow keys to move the crossbow, keep the Space Bar down
to build up power, and then release it to fire. If you manage to get a bullseye
on the last shot, you can keep on firing until you miss!"
And if your still stuck then this is the last piece I can give you:
"Lastly, if you get a Bullseye you get a cool power-up to use for the next
shot :) Good luck!"
And that really is all I can give you, just make sure you don't hit any spectators.
Even though there hardly ever is one or two, or a group, but it still doesn't
hurt to be careful! Although it would hurt if you hit someone…
Turdle Racing: Did someone say, 'Turdle'? Yep, someone sure did, because
it's right here in the shadows of the Castle, Meridell's very own Turdle Racing!
So if you care to take a bet, or rather place a bet on the Turdle you think
will win the race then go ahead. You can place as many bets as you want as long
as if doesn't exceed 3. Hope you win!
Tournament Round Table Poker: Poker, played on a Round Table and in
a Tournament. That makes the 'Tournament Round Table Poker' game. Similar to
a lot of games yet so different to many others, I hope you know what Poker is
for a start…
Kiss the Mortog: Kiss the Mortog is a very fun game for some, but if
you're not up to it then please wait at the entrance of the Castle, as that's
our next stop. So anyway, you want to kiss a Mortog then? Well here's the script:
"To play Kiss the Mortog you need 50 NP. Simply click on the Mortog you think
is the prince (or princess). If you are lucky, you win Neopoints -- you can
collect those Neopoints or continue. Unfortunately non-magical Mortogs HATE
being kissed... and explode as a result. When this happens you lose ALL the
Neopoints you would have won. Simple eh?"
So just make sure you kiss the right creature and you'll be fine.
Meridell Castle: Here is the home of the very King Skarl, the king
that almost led Meridell to victory in that one-sided fair fight. Okay then,
a little bit exaggerated, how about this then? King Skarl tragically lost by
the smallest of margins to Darigan in that almighty battle, all right? Thank
you…
The Castle lies in the South of Meridell, and is where the King himself along
with his top knights and peasant militia rule the land of Meridell.
You enter along a wooden drawbridge, and then after crossing you see the inside
of the wonderful castle. With a gleaming stone floor, and brilliant tapestries,
this is surely one of the finest castles ever built. Invasion of Meridell
- 300 BN: Upon Entering you can play 'Invasion of Meridell - 300 BN', which
is a tough but very good game. Basically there is a re-creation of the great
battle and if you wish, you can join in to this fantastic historic event, and
perhaps even win a shiny trophy!
"You may win the battle, but can you win the war?"
Escape from Meridell: If you prefer to escape, rather than re-enact
historic battles, then perhaps 'Escape from Meridell' is your bowl of Gruel.
"Valrigard the Draik has been imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Can
you help him Escape from Meridell Castle ???"
Meriball: The national sport 'Meriball' is the best hit-a-ball game
there is! Are you feeling up to the challenge? If you are then get going to
the courts to face your first opponents, do well and you will be rewarded with
some Neopoints. If you don't succeed then hopefully you know what humiliation
is…
Meristones: Meristones is a quiet game where contestants battle it
out in silence. Just the occasional 'clink' of a meristone hitting the floor
or a players cup is heard but apart from that it as quiet as a Buzz humming.
"The object of the game is to have the most stones in your Home Cup at the
end of the game."
But the rules are a bit more complicated than that; this is the sort of game
that King Skarl would play after returning from an intense Turdle race. You
know, that 'scratch-your-head-until-the-scalp-starts-to-bleed' type of game.
Double or Nothing: This game is played deep into the castle, and against
the Castle Treasurer, Snargan.
It is a simple game; yet can result in tears of sorrow. But hopefully it won't
be you with those tears…
You just hand over 10NP to Snargan (that's the playing fee) and then you play,
by flipping a coin. If it's heads your cash is doubled, but if it's tails you
say bye-bye to your cash.
Grumpy Old King: Grumpy Old King indeed. Here sits King Skarl, brooding
on his thoughts, and it looks like he really needs some cheering up.
Can you think of something that'll cheer the poor king of Meridell
up? You can tell all sorts of funny, witty, serious or just plain silly jokes
to the king, as well as the answer. And if he likes it, then you'll get a faboo
prize. If not then Skarl will just be as he had.
You could ask him something like:
Q. How do you keep a herd of Mutant Peophins from beating up a Negg Faerie?
A. By carrying a bag of glowing neodrops !
And you'll just get the stare into the eyes as if to say, "Why do you even
bother?" But, doesn't hurt to try now does it?
Well that's the end of the Tour of Medieval Meridell, and what an experience
it was! We've seen some great places, played some amazing games and on the whole
had a fun time.
So from me, that's it. Hope to see you in Meridell!
