Mystery of Maraqua

by adamsimpire

MARAQUA - "Go away!" says the Seaslug, living near the ruins of Maraqua. If one tries to explore this area, then this is the response one gets.

"What is Maraqua?" many of you probably ask. Maraqua is a city of a civilisation that is thought to have perished underwater, just north of Mystery Island. This place has been a mystery for a long time because we know little about it. This is because Neopians have not been able to go down, underwater, and explore this area until now. This was because of the giant whirlpool that hovered over the mysterious wreckage for what seemed like ages. Now that it has stopped, we can get a better look at the ruins.

"The ruins of Maraqua fascinate me a lot," says svhunn2002. "I wonder if we will ever make any discoveries of the civilisation that perished down there."

Who says the civilisation living down there even perished? This is what many people say when they talk about the ruins. The possibility of a secret civilisation living down there is pretty great. This would make a lot of sense. The whirlpool that existed over the ruins for ages may have been a way to keep the curious from coming down and exploring. If there is an underwater civilisation, they probably want to be left alone.

Now that the whirlpool has come to a stop, an exploration of the wreckage wouldn't be senseless. It could result in many discoveries of this unknown civilisation These discoveries could lead to the first piece of this difficult puzzle. The Maraqua could be a civilisation so advanced that it could have existed before its time. Sounds confusing, doesn't it? One possible explanation is that this civilisation exists in the future. They could have learned how to alter time. If we start to explore this mysterious place, we could find many new things. There could be unknown Neopets, Petpets, foods, items, faeries, or even a Battledome down there. A lot of new things, and creatures, would probably be introduced to Neopets.

Here's what 9-month, Neopet user, mysterygod, had to say: "I think Maraqua itself is a mask, or a copy. The real underwater city lies somewhere else. They set these ruins up so that no one would search for the REAL Maraqua. They just want to be alone and study the rest of the world in peace."

If the Maraqua really did perish, they could have left behind a myriad of useful items! Exploring this region could mean a BIG advancement of what we know today about Neopets! Neopia should put a lot of funding towards the exploration of these obscure ruins.

Another possibility is Maraqua is hiding something due to the unfriendly Seaslug guarding the entrance to the ruins.

Here is what 5-month, Neopet user, monkeywithnobrain had to say: "I find it very strange that a perished civilisation would just sit there for a long period of time, completely useless yet still active. And now, with the unfriendly Seaslug guarding the entrance to Maraqua, it seems as if they must be hiding something. Perhaps the reason why it has been so quiet for all this time is because they have a secret, or possibly a weapon. And maybe, when we're least expecting it, they're going to pop up and do something surprising."

This brings up a good point. What if Maraqua is planning something evil, to do to the surrounding worlds? Would they be able to defend themselves?

Although we know little about this civilisation, we can make some pretty good guesses about what we might discover. It is now time for us to start to explore the ruins and see just what happened! We might not have a big window of opportunity to do this because if there really is a civilisation down there, they may be able to start up the whirlpool again. It is now time for some adventure! Because Maraqua is so secretive, the possibilities are endless.
